Doughyif anyone thinks that anything other than tons of money will help, improve, save, revitalize or any other synonym they are delusional. Rules don't need to be changed (can use NA or EU ruleset), maps hardly need to be changed (stick with the 7 now and improve them, product, snake, process, gully, sunshine, badlands, granary). Whitelist changes don't need to happen.

You can find people in the community willing to take all the logistical jobs as well as players already here. Just need the paycheck so they can spend the time doing it.

I mean using the word delusional and then saying the current maps should remain and can be improved and changed without the devs for it is kinda well...you know...

I'll spell it out clearer. Hardly need to be changed. Hardly. Meaning the bugs in the maps need to be fixed. I would classify those as improvements that should be made. I wouldn't say that opening new chokes or moving things around in these maps is necessary.

MisterDannyWe're stuck at theorycrafting because most of the people in communities like these have been pushing back on trying out other formats, there has yet to be a MM 6s cup in EU, etf2l seems to not be interested, even mocking the idea of having such a cup during april fools, rgl has tried mm 6s and has been a success, their statistics even prove that round times are FASTER (https://pbs.twimg.com/media/D1ounszWsAABDUH.jpg) , so i'm not basing my optimism for the mode on pure guesswork, its been tried, stuff that was complained about before wasnt an issue and yet nothing has changed.

I feel like I should mention that rgl MM 6s is hard to call a definitive success, because you'd be hard pressed to find anyone below invite who took it serious in any form. It's an organized pub and not a great one at that, because the game's variety of weapons and playstyles get's overshadowed by the teams' interest in winning, which usually means the more annoying strategy wins. And as far as those in invite, I was one of them and we were paid off to attempt new strategies that might be the next meta. It was the only reason we tried to avoid forfeit losses because we wanted our free keys lol. That said, I think something the majority of people who advocate this sort of thing think about, but don't internalize the significance of is that if no restriction becomes the main competitive format, the best meta will eventually appear and I guarantee you, it will both slow down round times and be unfun. Both teams running the same thing means a reasonably even tug of war, which is further emphasized by the layout of most maps (many of which will have to be changed to fit the new meta, including valve standard maps), and that means waiting for a player to switch to some other class or weapon to look for an advantage that is likely less important than a standard uber, since now you can have as many medics as you want on the field. And of course, this is all theory crafting, but the point being that unless things change at the development level, a meta will come and dominate the playing field for as long as the next update takes. Also, I hope you realize that there are so many factors involved in a round time shift and it doesn't automatically translate to a better competitive experience, much less a fun one. I have to laugh at that graphic because there are so many things wrong with it and it generalizes and assumes many things in order to act as if no restriction sixes is inherently better than standard 6s because of the shorter round times. And even if those generalizations and assumptions were cleared up, it still wouldn't be a clear winner if one came out with a shorter round time. The main takeaway from all this is that no restriction 6s isn't necessarily better in a competitive sense and making major shifts in the established scene is cause to make people leave and the uncertainty in it's capacity to bring new players is not to be ignored. I'd be happy to see TF2 with pubbers in love with its competitive scene, whatever form that may be, but I only hear competitive players telling others what casual players want. I rarely ever see casual players say they specifically want a more casual oriented format. The majority I hear is that they just want to keep playing the game the way they like, which is pubs. I'd buy that some amount of pubbers will play as a result of the changes, but that amount is so uncertain that, to me, it's not worth doing at the expense of our current competitive community and format.

Just let the progression of the game run its course wether it lives or dies. Everyone knows b4nny is delusional for trying to "appeal to valve". Enjoy what we have and the people in this community eventually everything comes to a end. TF2 is a casual game for casual players it was never meant for competitive, so we are lucky to have some sort of competitive element to this game. I loved this game and this community. Lots of good times. <3

I don't think it's actually possible to attract the 99%, the reality is that regardless of the mode and whitelist, you have to remember that tf2 is not particularly seen as a competitive game from the jump, the image of tf2 is that it's casual and a hat simulator.

Most people that are interested in a competitive game are not playing tf2, that's just obvious and I'll never understand the attempt to market the game to an audience that barely exists. They're off playing the myriad other games that have a scene, csgo, rainbow 6, overwatch, Apex/fortnite are just a few of the popular ones. The situation is such that a game that hovers over 50k players has comparable prizepools to f2p games with about 2k, such as heavy metal machines and steel circus. Have you even heard of those games? Probably not and that's exactly my point. If you were new and wanted to aspire to be an esports guy, there is just no chance you would even consider playing tf2.

Let's also not forget the state of the game is just terrible in general, all the experienced players who may actually be hoping to join are leaving in droves anyway, the difference in the game between pre jungle inferno break and today where we've had jungle inferno and that's about it in the last almost four years is astounding. Given that jungle inferno as a year and a half dev project failed to really draw much hype it's not that likely to change in coming years unfortunately

if we displayed the the game as actually fun we would attract the casual audience because atm all they got is banny crying his mind out and meatshotting and airshottimg everytnimg and the same with the ppl he pugged with

we really marketing this game as some kinda inescapable hell that is a plague to ur life that ppl are playing for no reason cause they hate it and cant not play it

hows it surprising that ppl dont wanna play then....

like i dont even think OW was popular because of the money, it just looked fun. same with fortnite. a HUGE population of those games dont even kno that shit exists they just play it because its Fun.

GazrickrigatoniHe tried though, when it didn't take off I think he lost interest. The way I see it is that he lost interest because he couldn't profit from it in any way. Trying in that situation means getting people to give TF2PL a second chance, especially in his position, and not abandoning the project and then also killing PugChamp NA in the process because he told them to fuck off and die. I might be mistaken but the NA pug scene has been in shambles ever since and thats definitely the opposite of keeping the scene alive.

I said it at the time, and I'll say it again now. TF2PL did an absolutely amazing job as a new player aggregator and was (and still is if there was support) one of the best ways for new players to get a feel for the game. It had a massive playerbase at the low end and if banny actually cared about growth he would have jumped all over that instead of only caring about the top 7-10% of players that were unhappy. The project was horribly mismanaged and does an absolutely amazing job at showcasing that banny only cares about what might be good for him, not what's good for the game or community. Because tf2pl was good for the community.

just because oldheads hate the state of the game doesnt mean starry-eyed pablo_gonzalez_1999 isnt going to have a blast playing his first center lobby like the rest of us did

for all they know we dont exist and there is no top level of play, but if its fun and pitched to them in an approachable, non-aids way, theyll come play

not quite sure of the logic here- because we're losing older people, we should stop trying to bring in new ones? that makes the scene die faster.

? idk if anyone actually 'hates his guts' but really if there is a such a large amount of people who hate him it's almost like he fostered this environment. also hate to repeat it as it has been said many times, but expecting to get anything 'worthwhile' out of tf2 in 2019 means you're an idiot. go to lan to play tf2 and meet people.
