EoNall universities and schools in jordan are now off even though there is SUPPOSEDLY only 1 case which recovered

idk why im even bothering posting here but i just want to point out that confirmed cases =/= true cases
i think we can all handle some minor inconvenience of having to take online classes if it means any possibility of slowing the spread

definitely better to overreact and be on the safe side rather than have people not take it seriously enough and let it get out of control (but ironically, the better it is contained the more people will look back in hindsight and say 'look it was overblown! it wasn't a big deal' when in reality it was but preventative measures were taken to mitigate it)

Spain has issued a lockdown, so only food shops and pharmacies are allowed to open. Oh and err tobacco shops apparently...

I think the Catalan government here will do the same on Monday. Broke my hand last week so ima have a fun time at home. My landlady is old and seems pretty terrified I ll pass it on to her. Kinda understandably.

MRfunnyalien-protoblatant lie, there is widespread testing available across the country
in population centers yes, but not rural areas especially in atlantic canada where the majority of the population may live many hours away from larger areas or hospitals, not to mention the atrocious hospital quality/ wait times in atlantic canada even before this outbreak

atlantic gang. hospital wait times are crazy here and there aren't even any confirmed cases in nova scotia yet. wait time for 811 is like 8 hours. can't wait

because if it isn't slowed down, there won't be enough hospital beds for the sick. the virus has a ~20% hospitalization rate, so hospitals will quickly be completely overwhelmed and then fatality rates will rise significantly as people that could be saved with medical intervention will die. if the virus is slowed down, there won't be as big of an issue of the sick not being able to be admitted.

This is all made worse by the fact that the Canadian govt & state media are still telling massive lies like "masks don't protect you or prevent spread" and "you are only contagious when you have symptoms."

I would be curious to see an example of an official saying the second phrase. I find it hard to believe that advice would be given by anybody worth listening to. It's fine to list real things but that feels like embellishment.

Let it spill over into the schools and churches. Let the bodies pile up in the streets. In the end, they'll beg us to save them. Of course they're desperate. They can smell their deaths, and the sound they'll make rattling their cages will serve as a warning to the rest.

i work in promotions and i found out today that the office workers are working from home. meanwhile, im going out and setting up events and having to socialize with people. pretty cool how my employer prioritizes the health of the sales employees over the health of the promotions employees.

after my shift today i informed my boss that i will no longer be coming in for work. they told me to find people to cover my shifts.... which is an obvious fundamental problem?? i dont get why they want people to prioritize their $12 an hour part time job over their own health

maybe im overreacting but it feels better to be proactive rather than reactive.

buy the dips, i think it will keep going down until after there is wide spread testing in the US and we get a better picture of how bad it is.

Had a teacher at my school self-quarantine after her husband tested positive, and it's spreading to the neighbor islands (1st case on Kauai). School says they'll decide by the 17th if they shut down

I guess there's no money for health care or tests but here's a spare 1.5 trillion we had lying around? And while we're at it why don't we bomb Iran again?

there's literally no food/water/lysol left at any store in Toronto and lineups at alcohol stores are insane

all I need now is Canada to ban travel to the US so I can't make a single LAN this year

had mild symptoms with the exception of a nasty cough. Went to the doctor, told that even though I have all the symptoms we dont really have cases on the Island yet so they aren't concerned. Im quarantining anyways until I feel better but... kinda sketch that they didnt test because of a perceived lack of cases. If you dont test you wont have cases?

You don't know what the Fed does, and you have zero idea what you're talking about.

They are issuing LOANS. The banks need to PAY IT BACK. There is no spare 1.5 trillion lying around, because the Fed has simply exchanged that money for securities with the exact same face value, and the Fed will EARN INTREST on this.

I shouldn't have to explain this to you because if you read the article you linked, it would have made this fact clear to you.

Stop talking about things you know nothing about because you're spreading misinformation to people who also don't know how the Fed works.

Can confirm that Canada is not doing tests unless you present several high risk factors. Grumpy's coworkers lost their collective little minds and physically exiled him from the store because he had a runny nose (not a typical symptom of COVID-19). He went to the doctor, said "I have a mild cold or seasonal allergies, please test me and give me a note to say that I don't have The Plague," the doctor said he didn't have enough risk factors to waste a test on him. I get the desire for limiting the use of tests because I'm sure there's thousands of hypochondriac idiots demanding a test every day even though they're obviously not infected. I don't have the expertise in epidemiology to comment on how effective it is, so, meh.

I used to work in medical research and the amount of fucking hysteria is insane. No, the surgical masks do not protect you from infection. The reason why doctors/researchers wear them is because doctors/researchers also wear lab coats that cover from thigh to wrist, gloves, goggles that cover cheek to eyebrow, and sometimes also caps and/or pants and/or shoe covers. Together, these items create a disposable/cleanable/autoclavable barrier that can come in contact with a hazard and be shed before the doctor retreats to a "safe"/"low hazard" place, which reduces the rate of transmission of the hazard between the high hazard/low hazard areas. Doctors/researchers also receive training in how to prevent/reduce biohazard transmission, how to use the equipment properly, where to use it and what constitutes a different hazard zone, and, most importantly, how to remove it and dispose of it, and have the tools and means of doing so. Just the mask that you put on and take off whenever you feel like it isn't gonna do jack shit.

My coworkers (I work in a library and my job is public-facing and idiots DO come to the library sick all the time so they can "get some entertainment while they're sick at home") are all wearing gloves now - which is, fair enough, we handle a lot of shit that comes from other people who may have just coughed/sneezed on the thing before handing it to us. I'm like, great, let's lay down some ground rules on how to use rubber gloves - how to take them off, where are the "high hazard" and "low hazard" areas between which the gloves get taken off/put on... and they're all like "no that's too much to remember." Uh, if you're not going to use the equipment correctly, there's no fucking point in using it at all.
