sigafooI didn't call them unbeatable. I simply listed out facts. They've basically won every major tournament in the last 3 years and have lost a game in the last two years straight. They beat the second best team int he country in the grand finals 5-0 on both maps. Those are the facts. Those are the words I said.

"I didn't call them unbeatable, I only dismantled their team because no one could beat them. Why cant these peon open players understand how bad 95% of my own league's playerbase is when compared to Grant 'b4nny' Vincent?"

you know the rule is dumb and say that you deserve harsh criticism for it and yet you choose to keep it anyways

i dont understand why the rule needs to be tested before removing it

there is literally no justification for it existing whatsoever beyond your stupid personal bias and literally no amount of "testing" is going to change that

This is literally a more fucking stupid idea than the idea to create a 7v7 league.

FROYO is a Dynasty in TF2. They earned the right to keep winning until players dethrone them.

I'm sure glad they didn't just ban the Green Bay Packers and Montreal Canadians in the 60's/70's
or ban the Pittsburgh Steelers of the 70's
or ban the NY Islanders in the 80's, the Boston Celtics of the 80's, the Edmonton Oilers of the 80's, the LA Lakers of the 80's, the SF 49ers of the 80's
or ban the Chicago Bulls of the 90's, the NY Yankees of the 90's
etc
etc

you know that moment when you shoot yourself in the left foot, and it hurts so bad that you decide shooting yourself in the right foot is the best course of action?

and then you realize it hurts even more, so you shoot yourself in the hand?

sigafoo creating a 7v7 league, then banning froyotech from playing, THEN responding to this thread.

But they've had those successes in 6v6, an entirely different format to 7v7, as you have argued multiple times. In fact, it's so different a format that this shouldn't be taken into account at all. The only games that matter that they have won are the 7v7 ones, and the grand final was actually pretty close, ending with a 3-2 on product (according to logs.tf)

I don't play in RGL, but in my opinion banning the top team in your own league with the implication that everyone else is so bad they need an artificial handicap and shitting on the integrity of this league for a one-off experiment that you yourself don't even have the confidence to fully support makes this league seem very unprofessional and indecisive about its future.

sigafooThe reason I put that in quotes is that it's something that I've read many times before, whenever these conversations come up. To try and stretch and contort my words to somehow say that I'm insulting players and deeming their efforts is disgusting. I'm fine with being called every name in the book on here, but to try and twist something so clearly not intended that way is disappointing, to say the least.

I have no doubt in my mind that you never meant to deliberately demean players. But the way that statement was worded, let alone this action itself, does demean players. Even if you didn't mean for it to come off that way, pushing this decision means you haven't listened to the players that have, for the past several years, constantly spoken up against people who have whined about froyotech disbanding to make things more fair and interesting "in the name of competitive Team Fortress 2" - of which I am just as guilty for doing. These players speak up not only to defend themselves, but to defend froyotech and their place in the ladder for the integrity of competition, even if they acknowledge that with their hard work and practice, they will lose dozens of times before they finally see progress.

I'm never going to understand that integrity as much as those players do. Based on your competitive experience in Plat a few years back, you probably understand it more than I do too. That's why I can't believe you pushed for this.

I apologize for accusing you of belittling players' efforts since you said you didn't mean it that way, and I believe you. I retain my opinion that a lot of what was written in that statement was very personal rather than professional, and could be/will be interpreted in unfortunate ways worse than how I first read it. I also retain my opinion that the salary cap against froyotech STILL will not turn out to be the right way to motivate players, but I understand you're willing to take that gamble regardless, as you always have been.

Could've at least made a rule that applied to all Invite teams, something like "rosters can't have more than one player from each Invite team". Making a rule that targets a specific team is a terrible fucking idea.

Did anybody watch the RGL Grand Finals last season and think "wow froyo is making this super boring/awful/uncompetitive/etc"? I didn't. It was literally the most exciting RGL match I've ever seen. (Great job Cat Noises!)

Also why change to the old ESEA-esque way of doing prizes literally days after ESEA makes changes to the prizepool that the community applauds?

Reminder that sigafoo could've used RGL in the wake of comp matchmaking to offer a fresh inbetween of the still new in-game 6v6 comp mode and the established 6v6 leagues. It could've set an example to Valve how their version of 6v6 comp could look like if they simply limited all classes to one, probably increasing the population playing in-game comp substantially had Valve made this change themselves. Had RGL have been 6v6 prolander it probably would've gathered the attention of UGC 6s teams that were stuck in a shitty league and had the opportunity to just switch with their full roster

But then he realised people would run 6s classes + sniper + 1 offclass so he turned it into 7v7 lol haha

Yo sig I'm having trouble getting my head around the specifics of this rule 'cause it's super vague. You briefly mention best players in their respective classes can't group but then just go on to say "froyotech as it stands". Does that mean the current ESEA roster? Actually, can you just specify which of the 23 rostered froyotech players across the tournaments you listed aren't able to play together? I'll list them 4u, cheers!

sigafooAll of the criticism, calling me a fool, dumb, etc... All fair, because I could be completely wrong about this. Of all of the decision that I've made, this is the one I'm least confident about. So we'll find out, either it'll be a massive flop that we made an extraordinary rule for an extraordinary situation, or it'll help the healthiness/balance of the league. I'm curious to see myself.

You aren't even sure of this decision yourself. Surely the reaction is enough to tell you how atrocious an idea this is?

Obviously the intent is good, but this is not the way to go about it. Everyone makes mistakes - please swallow your pride and backtrack.

forgive me i hardly skimmed thru most of this and heard a lot of the details through the grape vine, but i get the gist of whats goin on. also its 1AM and im tired.

on one hand, you may have a slightly more competitive top level, albeit a lower skill ceiling. on the other hand, you are forcing a longstanding top team considered "the team to beat" for years to separate because they're too good? and that teams aren't improving at a fast enough rate to get to that level?

you gotta admit, getting good at tf2, let alone to froyo's level, takes an immense amount of time and energy. most folks play this game as a hobby and, no offense to the hardcore gamers, have more productive things to do with their time, even those at the top level, who just happen to be better than most players.

"Just get better lol." Well, it isn't that easy and quite honestly it doesn't really cut it for an excuse at this point in the game's lifespan. Also, haven't people been complaining about how froyo has dominated ESEA for years and how invite always seems to be a battle for 2nd place among the other teams? (not trying to be snarky here, i really don't know, but thats what its felt like for a while). That attitude towards froyo always seemed sincere, at least to me, but now that another league has done what we've all been having dirty fantasies about people seem upset.

I dont think forcibly gutting froyo was a very smart idea just because ethically it seems wrong, but this outrage really only seems to stem from existing contempt for sigafoo and his league/format.

the entire point of a competitive game is that the best team wins. you can't ban someone for winning and i can't believe that ever even crossed sigafoo's mind.

then again we're talking about the guy that thought making a 7v7 league was a good idea in the first place.
