ETF2L Season 28 Coverage Feedback Thread

The season has concluded.

What did you think to our coverage this season?
What do you think was good?
What do you think was bad?
Why do you think those things?
What would you like to see in future?

Also if you can provide examples or specifics, a lot more can be done / taken from the feedback

I feel like the Grand Final kinda missed a hype man.
Like it was last map and golden cap and it felt like there was someone missing like Bren, Admirable or even Ombrack who would be super hyped and just get loud about every big play

TurboTabsWhat did you think of our coverage this season?

I thought the coverage was very good :) I approve of casting Open/Mid/High GF matches, they were fun.

TurboTabsWhat do you think was good?

The production quality of the stream was good as always.

TurboTabsWhat do you think was bad?Raptor00XI feel like the Grand Final kinda missed a hype man.

This^
There should be a larger variety of casters imo.
ALSO please change the graphics for before/after casts. I have seen the same jumping scouts and demoman with bird for ages. Replace with maybe some clips or get someone to do some fancy video/graphic designing for you.

TurboTabsWhy do you think those things?

Well because it kind of gets boring hearing the same voices and structures to cast over and over. Although you guys had great coverage and many casts, they all kinda become stale after a while of hearing similar things. I used to enjoy casts which had one calmer, more analytic caster combined with a hyped up shoutcaster. It brings greater variety and enjoyment to casts I kind of miss now.
I mean, it doesn't even have to be some hype man kinda person. Any variety in casting (as long as it remains good&accurate) is fine.

TurboTabsWhat would you like to see in future?

The changes to casters would be nice to see. Also keep up the good work :)

Consider changing the SFM graphics back to Frag Vids? Was talking about this today and yeah my argument doesn't have much substance to it but I reckon a lot of others would also be in favour. It was really cool when there was that i49(?) fragvid on loop during set-up, etc.

There's so much umming and ahing, nobody knows what to talk about.
For example during most stalemates I've watched (I've not watched too much of the latter half of the season so it might have improved) there's usually a lot of dead air and people repeating themselves. If you have nothing to say about the current situation then at least find something else that's been happening in the game to comment on such as what they should/could be doing to fix mids, how you think individual players have been performing etc.

When casters try to give analysis they sound so unsure of themselves that even when they're giving good analysis I find it hard to believe what they're saying.

Definitely missing good play-by-play casters. Nobody other than Ombrack seems to have the confidence to just nut down the mic. "ooOOO lUKaSS"

No one seems to have the PASSION.

I really enjoyed Connor's casting, would probably be my caster of the season if he did more.

Hello I watched every single coverage of this seasons etf2l games with my housemates and some of the American stuff aswell

I would like to see some more casters who have chemistry together

Barely any of the casting pairs play off of each other at all and the pairing is totally off, it seems like the play by play people and the analysts mostly just blend into each other and to me that defeats the purpose. Apart from a few fringe cases I couldn't possibly tell you who the analyst actually is and who the play by play guy is. None of the casters seem to talk to the other one, it often feels like the casters are just 2 people talking to the stream, with the other one only existing to fill in the gaps between the first one talking. There is no warmth between the pair or any indication that they even know each other. This isn't always, but when it happens it just feels awkward and robotic, which is not fun to watch.

I would like to see casters being a bit bolder on what they're talking about. The vast majority are afraid to call out a bad play or talk even about what they'd like to see from the teams. You don't have to be overtly negative but some casters do not criticize at all, which is a waste of humourous moments. Add more guest casters in prem, they seem to generally be far less afraid to call mistakes

I'd say the interviews are wasted, they're just too clinical. give the players space to express personality and rivalries, it usually feels like 'forced professional' instead of an organic interview and the result is generally uninteresting. It would probably be better to have the interviewer be someone in the inner circle who isn't afraid to poke fun at people, when possible.

I would personally like to see overhead views on mids sometimes. It's nice to see how each team prepares up for the mid and actually watching a demo shoot 3 stickies for a grand total of 60 damage adds nothing to the viewing experience. Neither does watching the roamer go behind. I'd much rather see how the other team reacts to the bombs and how the mid flows, because watching 1 person honestly just chops out the majority of the info because it's very rare that only one person is doing something interesting at a time - go to the first person once the cleanup stage begins imo

thx u

Thanks for all the work you guys put into all the casts and production!

Some input on things to improve maybe

- try to stick to the one hypeman + one analyst caster setup
- be more savage/polarizing in your casts (call people out if they beef etc to create more tension and something to talk about in chat)
- practice analyzing logs because literally reading out numbers everybody can see on the screen anyways is boring
- i really love the pregame stat comparison sheets so pls ensure to make them work (and not just for 2-3 games of the season)

Some good feedback in the thread so far. There is some rhyme and reason for not doing certain requests in the thread too however. I might into more detail but I don't want to discourage people into criticising those points or making any new ones.

Also just to add that if more people can name names or provide examples of some of the good or bad points they made, it makes it much easier to fixing. We covered around 30 matches in this season and it can be hard for us to know which ones you're referring to / have or have not seen

Echoing what TurboTabs said, would greatly appreciate any feedback for me specifically.
I'm aware of my lack of confidence during casts, but any other pointers would be nice aswell.

As for last season, thanks a lot for letting me taking the mic from time to time, I really enjoyed it and hopefully I can keep on doing it next season.
As I said in the Grand Final interview, production.casting guys dont get as much credit as they deserve. Yes it's not always perfect, but you're there to make casts happen, and thanks a lot for that.

And because I've been part of the crew this season, any points directly about me are welcome too, so dont hesitate and fire up !!

If I may, these are my answers to some points here.

I strongly feel you on that, but for having run some post-game interviews myself, most of the time it's really hard to get anything interesting out of the players. When I watched casts in the past, I loved interviews because people used to give their opinion, nowadays it's more like "meh game was, it's not like we even try/care anyway".
I agree a bit with you on this topic, but interviews dont solely depend on the casters, players have to be a bit more giving too.

smzi- be more savage/polarizing in your casts (call people out if they beef etc to create more tension and something to talk about in chat)

Again, this is gonna be personnal experience, but iirc, I was a bit harsh on meds during some casts (one being Nunya Black against Choke Bustaz I believe), and I remember the chat getting all like "wtf is he talking about blablabla". I know chat during game is a lot about memes, but getting reactions like these doesnt really encourage you to be somewhat critical towards the players who make mistakes. Plus, when a play happens, we'd rather emphasize the "well played" side of it, rather than the mistake, if that makes sense.

First of all, thanks alot to TFTV for letting me cast and the trust to cast the grand finals!

My voice by default is not super hype and I apologize to you guys for not making the finals more hype.

I'm still very new at casting and I would like to get better at it.

I would really like to receive feedback both good and bad. I know there's misstakes I do in my casts but there is surely stuff I haven't thought of aswell.

I hope overall you guys have enjoyed my casts this season.
