you guys might not respect makkabeus' decision-making, but you have to at least admire his willingness to explain himself to the community in threads like this within a reasonable 24 hour window

wait hold up my producer is saying something in my ear right now

Dude what in the actual fuck. We have been told the qualifier is canceled twice, and that it was RGL's final decision. Now it's back on ??? Every team had the same amount of time to put together 6, so I don't understand why a team is getting som much leeway? It's honestly frustrating that we are being fucked with so hard because RGL is so desperate to save one team when we already have 10. If they won't respect my time and keep telling me a qualifier is/isn't being held, then why should I respect what they want and play in some bullshit qualifier when we have 10 perfectly good teams paid up and ready to go.

At this point the only options left are shitty ones so I just wish they would stick with a decision and stop changing it. People are getting fucked over either way and I get wanting to minimize damage but they're making it worse by going back and forth

If a team dies and tells admins they’re dead, that should be a final decision. Constant back and forth of “we’re alive lol jk” happens every season but it shouldn’t be allowed to screw things up this much

I'm sympathetic to the virgil team wanting to play invite but it is so unbelievably frustrating to say yeah, you have to play a qualifier vs AG. Ok now you have to play it vs AG and esper. Ok now you might not have to play it if one team died. Ok now one team died so you don't have to play it. Ok now that team might be alive again even though they don't have an rgl page. Ok now that team is dead again and it is our final decision that you will not be playing a qualifier.

Now that everyone is paid up and ready to play invite, you have to play the qualifier again!!!

Idk if makka's trying to kill this league or what but it's so aggravating to deal with this shit, make up your fucking mind.

Yea I have to agree with this, if you tell the admins that your team is dead, the admins should be allowed to act accordingly, especially considering the situation that we're in. I think that it's really unfair to the teams involved in the qualifier to be able to go back and forth regarding your team, especially considering how the admins told the teams in the qualifier that they're good to pay up (which is what they should do off what they were told), and then the admins are pressured to have the qualifier again after the teams are paid up. Although RGL should really set their foot down about what is going on, I can't really blame the admins, as they are forced to act around a team going back and forth about their status.

Hi, it's been a day, hasn't it.

Right off, this should've been planned further in advance, and we're just as aware of that as you. Many of these issues came due to having to stage this qualifiers so close to the season deadline, and thusly things being acted on far faster than would've usually happened.

For this not to happen again we're looking at implementing changes to future seasons to avoid this situation in the future. This would be adding a deadline (likely ~1 week) from the season for teams looking to be considered for Invite to sign up, and using that time to facilitate any needed qualifiers without being right up against the season deadline.

I've told magma, yerb, and esper this but in the interest of clarity here's the current situation with the invite qualifier is that it will be played monday, the team that is dropped to advanced will play their 1st match on tuesday, there will be a placeholder team in the match schedule for whatever advanced team they would end up playing.

Again I recognize this is a far from optimal situation for everyone, and I thank the teams involved for their patience and understanding in this.

our demo is getting his wisdom teeth removed the admins aren't responding (we assume they can't push the qualifier since they already have it so late) so yeah we need a demo ringer i guess

I have a question why is 1 team more important than 3 teams. What gives them the right to shaft a team? Is it because they’re better than all of us or what

I have never understood (and please enlighten me) why there are admins involved in league decisions/planning like this who haven't played tf2 as a competitor. Shouldn't the admin for the top level of play in NA be someone who can sympathize with the player's situations? Like crasian, fleskore, zoomxze, or jemond?

I don't mean to undermine any of the effort and sacrifice you've put in Ire, I understand you probably aren't paid, but I can't help but think that longtime players prob have more foresight to avoid this kind of thing.

Qualifiers for a division should be done like a week before, not like 3 days before. Now, it's rescheduled to a day before season starts and people weren't planning on getting on? Yikes. This is so messed up.

Normally I would agree with the sentiment, but seeing as I am both a main player for one of the qualifying teams and I have oral surgery tomorrow that would get in the way of playing for said qualifier, I am very annoyed with RGL for deciding to do this. The yosh team is better than our team but our team did everything by the book and we're getting shafted for it. I guarantee if our team was this wishy washy about being able to play, RGL would have told us to fuck right off and kicked us out of invite. Now, because their team was so on the fence about it, we couldn't play qualifiers today and the admins aren't responding at all in regards to the situation my team is in.

So what happens to the team that doesn't qualify?

Does their time spent main classing go down the drain cause they are relegated to advanced and cant main class cause they're class restricted?

Can they actually play advanced on their classes cause they shown that they cant make through the qualifiers?

Or is RGL just banking on that they die so they don't have to cross that bridge?

that's actually a good point mr aim

when rgl put such heavy class restrictions in advanced, they basically ensured that the teams that won it would be a) super hungry to go to invite because they're not sandbaggers, and b) even more likely than usual to be bottomfeeders in invite because they essentially can't have any mainclassers with invite experience unless they joined the team in the offseason

so those teams need to actually be allowed to play invite or else theyre stuck in purgatory, either that or advanced, ironically, needs a sandbagging team or two to keep them from being in this position in the first place

The admins said the losers can play advanced with no class restrictions, which cool i guess but I doubt any team is gonna be happy with that.

I want to apologize to the three teams in the Invite qualifiers. It's completely our fault and this should have been handled better. We've been running qualifiers in Highlander for seasons and to my knowledge, this is the first time we're trying to it in sixes and clearly we did not hit the mark.

As Ire pointed out and many on here, the solutions for this stuff is straightforward: Give teams advance notice, have clear and open communication with team leaders, and create expectations that we follow through on (e.g. date/times, structure, what happens if you lose, etc..).

As an apology to the qualifying teams, I personally will cover the costs of your starting six players. I'm going to refund your fee's later tonight and will donate the 240/180 for the starting six players to the prize pool.

One of the foundational things that we have at RGL is listening to feedback and always trying to improve. This is why we have minor to major changes to every season in our main formats. Why we host end of season surveys to understand what players like and dislike about what we do and use that to guide decisions. There's almost never a season where we don't adapt in some way to try to either improve how we do things internally or league-wise, to try to be a better organization.

I'm not directly running anything in RGL right now, but from an outsider's perspective, it's clear to say that we could have done better. Covering the league fees is a gesture that I can do to help teams a bit more, but the real gesture is change and doing our best to fix the current situation. This is something that should not happen again, and we are going to do a retrospective with our staff to understand where our missteps happened. I appreciate the feedback and good luck to all teams in this upcoming season.
