Insomnia65 announced with Team Fortress 2

May 2, 2019

The Insomnia Gaming Festival has been home to competitive Team Fortress 2 for many years now, with teams coming from across the globe to compete in the game's only remaining intercontinental event series. With Copenhagen Games 2019 wrapped up, it has been confirmed that TF2 will return to its summer house for another year.

Insomnia65 will take place from the 23rd to the 26th of August. It will be located, just as it has in the previous iteration, in the NEC in Birmingham, United Kingdom. Essentials.TF will once again be the primary community organizer behind the tournament and will be providing coverage for the full event.

Tickets and additional information are set to be released through Insomnia's website in the coming weeks.

Hi all.
This thread will be used to keep people in the loop as to what is happening and provide information where possible. One of our prominent issues last year was the lack of communication, both internally and externally and as such we aim to be much more active in ensuring there are no lingering questions in the run up to the event.

LAN Staff Applications will be released as soon as possible. We will unlikely be approaching people individually as to whether or not they want to be on staff, so if you want to attend you have to fill out the form. This form will be posted here and on our Twitter (@TF2Essentials for those that aren't aware) which also will be where the vast majority of our public details will be posted so keep an eye on them.

WingmannAny NA teams confirmed?

As of right now, nothing is confirmed in that regard. The only thing that is certain is TF2's attendance at the event. That being said, if there are intercontinental teams (NA, AU, Asia) that may be interested in attending that may need some additional support to attend, contact us and we can see what we can do. Although we cannot guarantee that support can be given.

BlackoutJon is the current owner of EssentialsTF as a company since Wolf Machina has decided to move on from TF2. However, since he will not be attending the actual event, yours truly will be the acting Project Lead for i65. Specific questions should be directed to these people:

Event Management or General Queries - DrHappiness#0897 on Discord
Event Production - ArchRhythm#0001or soda#1017
Creative - soda#1017 or Teleportato#9730

Hope to see you there!

A livable wage, it would only take a few months to save enough for the trip. At least, that was the case for me last year.

id recommend an airbnb if you can find one, generally a better experience and cheaper
(also last year tickets were like £100 which is a bit yikes)

only problem is that most of the airbnbs are far. Taxi ride kind of far. But still cheaper probably.

1) I don't believe so, IIRC they have people go round at night to make sure that isn't happening. There is indoor camping which is considerably cheaper, which isn't too bad but doesn't beat a Hotel obviously

2) Staff do not pay an entry ticket as they have their own passes given to them which gives them access to the event so they can get where they need to. If they want to have their own BYOC spot, though, they obviously need a separate ticket.

Yes, its quite expensive. So people often try to cut off what they can when they're on a budget.

Some things that come to mind are, as mentioned already, the indoor camping or getting an airbnb with a group of people. Bringing a laptop to play on or trying to find a friend that can bring a spare(You can normally rent a monitor separately if you wish to). Getting odd flying times to lower the flight price. Or possible looking at not directly flying to Birmingham and hitching a ride from the airport that you do go to.

Allright, thanks.
Are pc rentals done thru insomnia or with another company?

Hit me up on Steam if you need a loan. My interest rates are reasonable.

So all the tips like cheaper flights that improve the situation from "starving western/nothern european student would have to save up for 6 months" to 5 months don't quite work when it's actually just from 10 years of savings to 8 years.

They are through insomnia, you pay the rental on the same site as your BYOC ticket (normally another company sponsors the rentals but yeah).
