I think that the cheating rules are fine as is. 2 year ban if you're caught cheating first time, perma after that. I'm not a 6s player so I don't have to play against elijah, but at least in the highlander scene i think there are actually more current invite players that were banned for cheating that are still playing and not cheating, than there are players that were banned for cheating, made it to a high level, and banned again for cheating.

For example, the best HL scout right now, blank, was banned for cheating in his second season, and after getting unbanned made it to invite in two seasons. Nyxi was banned in his first season in Platinum, and after coming back he's been a mainstay in invite. eX.Hunter was banned for cheating in Platinum, unbanned and same thing as nyxi. Hyphen same thing. Not an insignificant portion of the top highlander players.

There are just too many players that I can think of that have been banned for cheating and reformed themselves for me to be behind 1 strike and you're out forever policy. Specifically for elijah (who is what this whole thread is about) demo request him every game and if he's cheating still, he'll be gone forever and you'll get your precious match points back. You don't have to scrim him. AC admins should have reviewing his demos (and other freshly unbanned cheaters) at #1 priority, over every other demo requested.

Elijah is an edge case. There are plenty of good players that have been banned for cheating in the past, and came back as a significant contributor to the competitive scene. I'd rather one match in two years be a loss than a few kids in their teens lose their opportunity to come back as adults.

I mean, right below that we see the enemy Scout killing Soldiers twenty times. So even in that same log, it doesn't seem like an anomaly, just a match with all four Soldiers constantly bombing or feeding.

I think the cheating rules wouldn’t seem nearly as lenient if there was faith in the anticheat team in the first place. Getting a cheater banned already seems like you have to move mountains, and having it happen twice seems straight up impossible. I don’t know what the internal case file was looking like, but reminder that mxr was allowed to play a full season, only bailed out by feno torpedoing their team, and then looked all set to play the very next season before streaming himself cheating lol. From that perspective, seeing a cheater get unbanned looks more like “well guess we’ll give our anticheat team another chance to fuck up!”

For what it’s worth I don’t see why there couldn’t be different severity for hl vs 6s, if they are more tolerant of ex cheaters reforming that’s fine, RGL should just poll people after this season to gauge things. My guess is 6s players would argue for longer bans (can u imagine someone cheating at a LAN and trying to play two years later), we’re already plagued with cancelled lans, top players leaving and people not taking invite as seriously as before, the absolute last thing this game needs is leniency on cheaters being another reason dissuading people from playing. The league is already very strict for other offenses, it seems perfectly reasonable to be extra strict on cheating for the same reasons (legitimacy, sponsors etc)

Not sure why any of you older players are still surprised at this point. Since TF2's early days, cheating and cheaters have been accepted in this community more than any I have experienced in over 25 years of gaming. I can bounce like 6 names off the top of my head right now without really thinking hard on the subject.

Don't look for "the league" to solve the problem for everyone because you rarely ever get what you want or what is needed. The best action is for everyone possible to simply refuse to play in scrims/matches with those individuals. You can even include the cheaters teammates that probably actively choose to ignore the cheating past.

Change needs to be driven by the player base, not asked for with the admins.

One thing I really wish the anticheat team would do is at least say the specific cheat they catch someone using when they ban someone, whether it be walls, triggerbot etc. I'm not even saying you need to release the specific clips/demos that got a player banned, but looking through demos of previously banned players is a lot more difficult when you don't actually know how they were cheating when they got banned. If I know they were banned for walls, I might try looking for instances of them looking in stupid spots with the enemy team in frame or their crosshair gravitating towards people through walls. Without that knowledge, it might be easy to say they're not cheating since there aren't any feno/cepi smoking gun moments.

One of the issues with doing that is it helps other cheaters/the same person avoid getting caught in the future. For example, if someone was using walls and silent aim, but only got banned for silent aim, they know they can continue to use walls. Or if every cheater that gets banned is getting banned for trigger bot, it signals to people that the AC team is really good at catching triggerbotters but not other things.

It's wild to me that these threads have been happening the entire time I've been playing with barely anything to show for it. Doesnt matter who the person is. Just wild.
