How has upgrading from 60hz to 144hz effected you?

Been thinking about upgrading my monitor, so that got me wondering, how has upgrading from 60hz to 144hz changed your performance aim/mechanics wise?

Also, if you've changed from 144hz to 240hz, how has that effected your mechanics? Just out of curiosity.

Also, specifying what you upgraded from and to, when mentioning your experience, would be appreciated. :)

I sank into a deep depression, all the light seemed to drain out of the world. Anyway, i have a 240hz now

Personally a 60hz user but EVERYONE told me the difference is massive and that the upgrade was really worth

i remember when i got my new pc + 144hz monitor for the first few weeks it felt like playing a completely different game.
as for mechanics, i don't think you get that much better, maybe a slight improvement to your consistency but i don't think it drastically changes how you perform.

60hz and 144hz is like night and day really. i would like to say it made me better at the game.
going from 144 to 240 i barely noticed any difference though

At first it felt a bit more smoother to play but other than that I had no changes, got used to it fairly quickly. (from 60hz to 144hz)

I went from 48 to 144 and it was just surreal.

I went from 60hz to 144hz and it feels impossible to go back now, I remember just watching my cursor move around for 10 minutes because of how smooth it was.

120hz -> 144hz, I don't really notice a difference so I just use whichever refresh rate is causing me less issues (I used to have issues with Netflix + my monitor being set to 144hz and switching to 120hz was the easiest solution at the time).

Kind of obvious but easy to forget, make sure you check for compatibility/that you have the ports needed with your GPU, and that you have the appropriate wires (DisplayPort, etc)

60hz>144hz is a crazy difference, it's hard to play on 60hz any more, just feels laggy and strange. you don't get mechanically better just from using it but aiming and gameplay is so much easier and clearer that it's definitely an advantage
144hz>240hz is noticeable and nice but not necessary, spend the money on other hardware instead

It feel so much nicer in every way. Even just dragging mouse around screen is amazing. It made me better at the game, I think it’s the biggest advantage you can have given to you by hardware in tf2

i could no longer discern between reality and game.... i would walk in a park, see a bird in the corner of my vision and flick my arm in an effort to airshot it.

60 to 144 feels so much nicer

The difference between 144 and 240 honestly feels like 120 and 144 to me in that if I accidentally set it to the lower of the pair it'll maybe take me a few hours or more before I notice.

Also, as others said 120hz plays nicer than 144hz with 60hz content

I used to play on 60hz for most of my tf2 career, then I switched to 144hz a couple of months back, and honestly, did not notice a huge difference. After playing a month of tf2 with 144hz and now switching back to 60hz for the summer, the difference is INSANE. I CAN'T BELIEVE I EVER PLAYED WITH 60HZ WTF ITS SO BAD OMG HELP ME, GOD!!

60 to 144 made some difference but when i tried 60 again after few months of using 144 i did not notice much difference.

My monitor broke while I was moving so I borrowed a normal 60hz monitor for one night of scrims. Even on med it felt horrible and I felt like I was eating every projectile (more so than usual). Especially if you play with a high sens, looking around quickly gets kind of disorienting.

It ended up being more worth it to play with a broken 144hz monitor like this than to go back to 60hz: https://media.discordapp.net/attachments/809573988136517670/815810241630437386/20210228_222606_HDR.jpg?width=1201&height=675

I used to play scout on 60hz when I was a kid with no money but never played any other class much. I had always assumed playing non-scout wouldn't be that bad on 60hz but it actually does make a difference (not as much obviously but if you have some extra $, it's enough that it's worth even if you don't play scout in my opinion).

significantly reduced eye strain and somewhat better hitscan
I have a 240hz now and that was also a significant upgrade
I'd say the endurance benefits of not looking at choppy shit forever is the biggest upgrade going to 144hz though.

agreed about 240hz, not as stark a difference as 60->144 but still makes it much easier to see a pipe flying at you or keep your eyes peeled and be able to pop on time if there's a bomber (scout of course it makes much easier too with tracking but id say even medic it makes better)

My tracking was slightly better, I went back and forth to make sure I wasn't crazy. The most noticeable thing for me was doing big flicks and 180s, whether it be to shoot or check surroundings. I could absolutely see much quicker, made dodging spam and checking for traps when jumping through a choke much quicker. I aim pretty smooth on 10 inches per 360 for reference.

>theres a notable difference, but i think the benefits are largely overstated. it had no impact on my dm whatsoever, but it is nicer to look at. people make it seems like you just cant see scouts on 60 in comparison but its really not that drastic

>when i select 60hz on my 144hz monitor, the difference really is actually that crazy, especially with just normal web browsing, but when i use a monitor that can only do 60 i have no issue

60 to 144 is a really big difference and its definitely worth it. I've only played on 240hz once and it felt extremely smooth. not as noticeable compared to 60 -> 144 but still worth if you have the money. it was at lan though so it may have been a combo of 5 ping/240hz/good pc that made it feel so good to play

From 60 to 144 it immediately felt a lot better and I could never go back now but I kept playing like dogshit.

Performance-wise I don't think it has a huge impact except for making the game way more pleasant to play and therefore giving you a better base to play, practice and improve on. Sure, it might give you a slight boost at first since tracking feels a lot smoother but it won't make you a better player over night. I would still recommend upgrading if you can afford it though.

like everyone says, 60->144hz felt super fucking nice and its hella obvious once you look at 60fps monitors without vsync.

BUT i wanna say going from raw 144hz to whatever fuckery this thread is about was even better. https://www.teamfortress.tv/57332/how-i-made-tf2-run-beautifully.

Everything is smoother - the feel of moving your mouse, looking around in game, projectiles, etc. So much easier to tell what is going on since things aren't skipping around on your screen.

When I first got my 144hz monitor, it felt kinda weird to aim, but you get use to it very quickly. It also makes tracking a lot easier in a way as you're able to see more frames thus you may find that your tracking improves or that tracking becomes easier

I went from 75hz to 165hz and won advanced the next season after being stuck in main for over a year. 100% made me more consistent and easier to shoot at people, definitely worth imo.
