Do textures use vram? What's the performance impact of high texture settings vs. low texture settings in tf2?

sAvenDo textures use vram?

Yes the GPU uses vram to display pixels from textures (aka texels).

sAvenWhat's the performance impact of high texture settings vs. low texture settings in tf2?

Texture settings define the resolution of textures in TF2. High texture settings will increase the resolution of textures, and low texture settings will decrease the textures' resolution. High res textures are going to take longer to render than low res textures due to the larger amount of pixels that need to be rendered.

TL;DR Yes there is a performance impact from texture settings.

no, even if he's right there is an obligation we all have to downfrag AimIsADick regardless of what and where he posts.

Also, quantifying actual FPS impact would be more useful because generally TF2 isn't GPU-bound, so there is a serious question of whether the increased GPU workload has more than nominal practical FPS impact on anything above Intel integrated graphics.

I'm close to ditching this site for good. I already gave bad reviews of it. Anyway that's unreasonable behavior since sometimes I make good posts.

Since updating my config to the newest version ive been having 1 issue. Every so often i will see a ragdoll for a split second before it disappears instead of instantly disappearing. I will also hear the ragdoll sound most of the time now. I'm using the low preset and haven't changed anything in the customisation area, which says all ragdolls and gibs are off.

Unfortunately, fully disabling ragdolls has a bug but I have been hearing feedback that this change has been undesired so I am trying to figure out a good solution. In the meantime, please refer to the above fix.

You could use any CPU frequency monitoring utility. The in-game one is just a convenience to be honest.

So I've been using the "Low" preset from the mastercomfig website, with a few modules (attached). My frames are great pretty much all the time, but there is a stuttering issue that gets worse the longer I have the game open. This happens mostly on jump servers surprisingly, where ill start to get small lag spikes that eventually become more frequent and intense. I've monitored my CPU during these spikes, and although temperature is fine, usage jumps to near 100% on all cores.

I've removed a lot of unnecessary background processes with W10Privacy, and even changed steam to run with no browser to minimize ram usage. Still, even with JUST tf2 as an active program, I get these lag spikes. Any advice? Thank you!

For starters what is your game environment (mods, OS, hardware, options, etc.)? Have you performed a clean install?

What is the ragdolls module set to? If the ragdolls module is set to `hidden`, then ragdolls are invisible, but they're still in the map, which decreases performance over time.

Ever since installing the last version (9.5.2), I am getting annoying stutters (feels like high frame times or at least frame drops at random times). I did a clean install but nothing changed. Looking at net_graph, for some reason it only seems to happen when I am hitting players.

Here's a short video, the stutters are not as visible as they are for me on 144hz but you can clearly see the fps count dipping under 100 fps for no reason at all.

I haven't changed anything from my config, except adding " sillygibs=off " to my modules.cfg file and updating the mastercoms low preset vpk to the latest version as said. Any suggestion on how to fix this ?

E: it also happens when navigating around a map, but the frame drops are way less heavy and therefore noticeable. It just seems like my frame rate has become highly inconsistent

Finally another user of frame times! Anyway what is your environment (mods, OS, hardware, settings, etc.)? Have you tried a clean install? I'm guessing that some particles are unoptimized and is causing frame drops. In that case you can try out CarlZalph's Particle limiter.

EDIT: Used the incorrect link to some player's config. The particle limiter should be linked properly now...

What version were you using before? Also, I have heard reports of the latest TF2 update causing performance issues for some people, so it may also be that. See if you can revert to your last version and see if the issues still come up.
