I didn't watch the whole video but to me it seems like hes weirdly focussed on the negative feedback he gets on his channel. If I click an arbitrary video of Star_ the like/dislike ratio is like 99:1, and yet he complains about the negative responses of measure zero. Of course I'm not a content creator myself, so maybe its different but honestly would it be that crazy to just focus on making content for the people that enjoy it instead of trying to be everyones buddy?

negative response to him is a video that he spent 100 hours and a month of time on getting less views than tf2 gameplay with his voice dubbed over that he spent 30 minutes on

Considering it has 57k likes vs. 568 dislikes, I'm inclined to agree.

I think you're underestimating the amount of similar comments he's gotten not only on all his YouTube vids, but also mails, tweets or his twitch chat. These comments are probably mostly posted by children, they don't realize the impact it has on ster (which is fair) but I feel like that's also a reason he made this vid. It sounds like it's a big deal to him and I can understand the like-dislike ratio doesn't mean everything when the videos he spend loads of time on gets less views than his tf2 vids and has too many 'why aren't you playing tf2' related comments.

IDK how someone can talk about "cherry picking" when it comes to the negative attention.

Imagine a scenario where you meet ten people in a day and upon greeting them 9/10 say 'hi' back and 1/10 says 'fuck you', what do you think you're more likely to focus on / remember?

Human brain is biased in that way

This is what I was about to say, not the first time I heard from a public figure who posts on youtube that it doesn't really matter how many positive comments you get, the negative ones get to you and stay with you more.

I also understand as a non-public figure how this is harder to understand or believe but it seems true.

One of the possible explanations to this bias, that I heard, is that this trait stayed with us from the prehistoric days when we as humans had to remember what hurt us so that we avoid it in the future.

As someone who has experienced hundreds of people casually appreciating work that I was doing in comp tf2 back in the day with a dozen or so people that felt seemingly abject hatred toward me for some reason, it's not something that most people are capable of just "shaking off". It really really hurts, and I can only imagine that is intensified when that minority is literally hundreds/ thousands of people.

I fully agree, the few people that hated my casting or vocally wished someone else was casting hit me a lot harder than the ones who were happy I was there.

If you cant deal with it then you shouldn't be a public figure. Nobody who is a public figure is free of critics in one form or another. As far as views go, what did he expect? The audience he built off of TF2 to be interested in every other game he plays? That's just stupid. If the content you built your channel on changes drastically you cant expect your entire base to follow you. Also he keeps mentioning "the audience" as if its one person when the thing he is referring to isn't even the majority of the people who watch his vids. TBH this just sounds like another case of youtuber glass ego (i have seen other youtubers torch there channels over similar pettiness). The part where he is literally in tears over random autist youtube comments tells me he needs to go see a counselor.

so it's a video about star's tf2 fanbase haunting him and him not being able to handle it? I can fully understand that theres a certain boiling point that you reach and break down, but this whole video and this situation in general seems very blown out of proportion.

Literally every youtuber, that transitioned from one game content to variety content has this issue of a shit lingering fanbase and star is no exception. That is just something you deal with and THE CREATOR gets to choose if that toxic lingering fanbase gets to you or not. He clearly states that he is very happy doing other stuff now, so why let the past haunt you all the time? He did not make it any better by creating some sort of explanation video.

That being said, I did watch the whole video and I'm really happy for him, that he is doing good now and finding joy in other things that he is doing right now.

It really is interesting how the amount of effort that you put into a video has almost no bearing on whether or not it will be successful. There's a reason why there are so many garbage channels out there that just follow the same tired, low effort formula that they know work (reaction channels are obvious examples of this). Clearly that isn't the route Ster wants to take his channel since making good content is more important to him than success. Good for him I say!

yeah i think a huge problem is that yt isn't setup well for super smart creative people to put a ton of time into a thoughtful entertaining video it's meant to churn out the same low effort shit over and over to keep ad buys rollin in. I feel like every youtuber i follow has had to take a break from the site for this exact reason

There's a reason why there are so many garbage channels out there that just follow the same tired, low effort formula that they know work (reaction channels are obvious examples of this). Clearly that isn't the route Ster wants to take his channel since making good content is more important to him than success. Good for him I say![/quote]

yeah i think a huge problem is that yt isn't setup well for super smart creative people to put a ton of time into a thoughtful entertaining video it's meant to churn out the same low effort shit over and over to keep ad buys rollin in. I feel like every youtuber i follow has had to take a break from the site for this exact reason
