ETF2L has made an anouncement on discord

SodiumWe are still hard at work fixing the server issues. As the sign-ups for Season 36 have been seriously hindered we have decided to extend the sign-ups for a week.

S4mskiSo it has been almost 4 days and there have been no announcements from any head admin on here or on Twitter to suggest why this is being caused and how long it will still be down for. I know it's a free league but a little professionalism doesn't hurt in this situation.

EDIT: did not see #31, I'm blind

DuMmTmare we just never gonna see anything of whats gone now cause that would be a big chunk of history missing, atleast some of it atleast still accessible on archive.org i suppose but still

I've been trying to download everything I can find that isn't easily accessible via Wayback Machine but that was cached by Google (fixtures, season tables, match pages, newspages). Sadly not everything is cached. If the last attempts to fix the volume should fail as well, we will ask for community help so we can try and hopefully restore the affected seasons and information on the site itself.

im really keen to help to help hunt down stuff thats missing so count me in for that, preservation of historical data like that seems pretty important to me so i'll do what i can, and aslong as people know a match happened, theres gonna be logs of it somewhere to work with

wayback machine/archive org keeps both htmls and status/map results screenshots that go along with it, so the match pages that can be visible on peoples pages can be restored as of late october 2019

google cache does selective caching of peoples profiles, where it sometimes prioritizes peoples own recruitment posts over their league profiles, this is what happened to my etf2l profile page

but it keeps all the latest tables if properly indexed albeit poorly formatted, the downside of this is obvious, no status screenshots to restore match pages, only thumbnails from google images which are both compressed and too low resolution to be used as status screenshots

How will ETF2L Admins be able to allocate certain players to divs, surely this is going to result in just a fuck ton of sandbagging, a former top mid player could now play in Open, you couldn't prove that logs are from officials, and even then, having to do so for each and every player is going to be a long, time consuming process. Medals can't be an indicator either because you dont need to play to get them.

I find it strange that a website like ETF2L, with thousands of people visiting it daily, which represents such a central part of EU TF2, has...1 backup per year? Nevermind the accounts that will now no longer exist (this comes right after a highlander open event that is meant to draw in fresh players), the officials and experience on player pages that people use in order to get on teams, or medals that will now take even longer than usually to distribute.

This is also hurts guys like Kritzkast, TFTV and other community casters that drew most of their information from ETF2L match pages, like the STVs, Maps, times/dates, and Pick Ban Process, where are they supposed to get this information from now? Some grand finals have already not been casted because no one knew,

The lack of clarification on the admins part on what happens with pending playoff games in Highlander has lead to a situation that allows losing teams to claim that the game was a scrim, unless it was explicitly agreed in the chat of the game that it is indeed a Final/Semi Final etc., it also just left teams in the dark on what happens with the games, leading to each individual team having to ask instead of them just posting an announcment.

I feel like people meme a lot about this, but this situation genuinly brought out a lot of the flaws with etf2l, hope they improve going forward.

As for the casting case, as the plan is for the site to be back over the weekend only Open, Low, Mid and Div1 HL Finals are affected and (Div2 and Prem have been casted idk how you missed them) and i know when 2 of them are and that the other 2 arent scheduled yet because asking people is a surprsingly easy way to figure out when things are.
idk for anyone else but i learned to not trust matchpages for scheduling cause people will always update them late anyways so this is literally not a concern for anyone

etf2l runs on a single server?
with a single hard drive without RAID or automated backups?
Is that standard practice for wordpress website admins?

come on its a free league, no patreon, no nothing, people running the website do it at a loss by default
some of the only income is from amazon referals and from google ads(fun fact this is why etf2l prohibits nsfw profile and team pictures, because the pages get demonetized)

the sponsorships they acquire fund prize pools, these 300 eur for prem highlander dont materialize on their own
