yo im currently self-isolating after speaking to NHS-111. Not confirmed yet though, not been tested. Just holed up in my nerd cave getting groceries dropped at my doorstep and videogaming.

Had a pretty bad fever to start, a cough and a bit of conjunctivitis. I'm not feeling too bad though, more of a bad cold/moderate flu so (if I've got it) I think I'm one of the luckier ones. Hasn't got better yet but I'm only 5 days in, hopefully won't get any worse. Plenty of time to finish binging Better Call Saul. Anyone got any netflix recommendations?

My day didn’t go well. I went to check in with a job I was shooting for, they ended up postponing all new hires for 4 weeks because of this. A few hours later I got a call from my mom because she was super sick, my dad works all day and so I went and grabbed here and tried taking her to my local hospital only to find out it was closed off due to the virus. Had to take her to urgent care and I’ve been house sitting for the last 5 hours for them. So yea, this has been a problem. I’m going to be late on all my freelance shit, but I can’t even be worried about work, idk what’s even wrong with my mom, I couldn’t even get her in a hospital, she probably has something worse going on, she said her head felt like someone was beating it against a wall. If it’s cancer... if it’s something, some off the wall bullshit... idk I couldn’t even get here in the hospital

it kinda sucks bordering a country who is very reckless. canadian gov has really been on top of this so far but until we shut down US border there's a slim chance we prevent the tipping point imo. my sister is a nurse and my grandma has a compromised immune system. hoping for the best.

loot-protocanadian gov has really been on top of this so far
lol not remotely

what?

one of the lowest infection rates per capita of any first world country currently. we were one of the first countries to start testing. already exploring shutting down border. international flights are already being limited. $10 billion stimulus package for businesses announced today, direct inconvenience payments to affected citizens likely announced tomorrow. guarantee that people wont be screwed with rent, groceries, bills etc.

already $500m addition funding for healthcare system, $100m for testing, $50m to push travel and hand washing messages, $50m to WHO.

not to mention canadian researchers were the first to isolate the virus and are also first to be testing a treatment/vaccine. gov has been making sure adequate funding is being provided to these efforts.

No cases where I live, but we had a county wide-meeting via teleconference and our hospital already reported that they're overwhelmed due to people erring on the side of caution and calling in.

We have to run these "simulations" we call Godzilla meetings every month as part of county government. About 2 years ago we had "virulent flu" as one of our issues - every single hospital employee and their families all died and we received a failing grade from the state. Hopefully the lessons we learned from that get put to good use.

JwMy school cancelled classes for no reason today. I live in.... guess where: South Dakota. Literrrrally insane lol foreal. Honestly mr. seven1 is right \\. My Catholic spidey-sense is tingling. The moment death becomes a possibility, people freak out. The moment people can't make themselves autistic by taking a vaccine made with aborted-fetus stem cells, they freak out. If you're really that scared, or if you do have family members who are at actual risk, pray. Build your contrition. Get baptized if you haven't been already. Receive the Sacrament of Penance from a valid priest. Do your penance, and fear death no longer.

same, all unis, schools and day care centers are closed until the middle of april in my district. Also you are not allowed to enter busses at the driver site anymore to secure the drivers safety, they therefore allow you to travel free by bus.
ALso, all shops here are out of noodles D:

A teacher at my university has tested positive for the virus today. The university is going to give an update on whats going on with classes tomorrow, I'll be pretty amazed if they don't shut the university down.

for real there was a single case in my county. the infected guy was a cop, went to a bbq cook off, and refuses to say what tent he was working in that day.

lootthe only reason they think the infection rate is low is because they refuse testing for anybody who hasn't been to (short list of high risk countries)

simply not true. they are testing anyone with respiratory symptoms, people who have been in contact with a confirmed case, and those who have mild symptoms who have recently traveled internationally. testing criteria will likely lighten in the coming days.

lootno travel restrictions

International flights will only be permitted to land at a smaller number of airports.
Boats and cruise ships carrying more than 500 people will be banned from docking at Canadian ports until July.
All travellers arriving in Canada from international points are being asked to consider self-isolating for 14 days as a precaution. People arriving from Hubei, China, Iran and Italy already have been asked to self-isolate.
Enhanced screening measures at airports as well as marine, land and rail points of entry (source). likely straight up bans announced sometime today or tomorrow

lootvirtually no testing

blatant lie, there is widespread testing available across the country

obviously there will continue to be exponential growth and this likely wont be stopped globally, but as of right now the canadian government has been very diligent and reactive to the current situation. a key figure that tells a big story that you've overlooked is the # of infected per 1M people. canada currently ranks extremely low in this statistic. also canadians are big travelers especially in the winter months and we have huge chinese, iranian, and italian populations.
i think you're vastly overestimating what other countries around the world are doing to try and curb this. at the end of the day theres a solid chance this virus wont be stopped and becomes widespread. at the very least the canadian gov has guaranteed rent, food, and bills support. barely any countries have committed to this.

in population centers yes, but not rural areas especially in atlantic canada where the majority of the population may live many hours away from larger areas or hospitals, not to mention the atrocious hospital quality/ wait times in atlantic canada even before this outbreak

Nope, call 811 and tell them you have symptoms but haven't been to Italy, Iran or China, see what they say (after you are on hold for 4 hours)

"are being asked to self-isolate" isn't a protective measure at all until you start welding people inside their buildings like china

811 is for redirecting and referring patients to testing locations. hospitals and pop up testing stations do the testing, if you show up or call ahead stating respiratory symptoms you are tested for COVID-19. the government can’t force foreign nationals into quarantine. travel ban will likely be necessary.

Imagine blind patriotism to keep yourself safe during a world wide pandemic where you have to trust other people to wash their hands

================================

Even if this virus isn't the world ending killer, why would you want another version of the flu going around? It's already March, if you told me I could get the flu in the spring I'd be freaking out. Wash your fucking hands

Reminder don't eat bats unless you're Ozzy Osbourne or you're putting old and weak people who have probably lived too long already at risk.

Also if you're healthy it's just a flu with a cough and a sore throat and you'll be fine. If you're healthy and die from it nature didn't want you to exist anyway.
