Whats the maximum amount of ping that a projectile class is playable on, so in the summer im gonna go to the dacha as we call it and basically imma have like very bad ping to every server so im just wondering if i should start maining scout or smth (which i wouldn't like to do )

I played top div 1 med @ 170 ping. I guess that's technically a projectile class. I played low div 2 soldier in 140 but it was iffy. I think 90 is about the max where if you practice in it enough you wont be severely crippled.

lol why am i being downfraged?

As the thread replies suggest so far, the limit is different for each person due to the differences in skill levels and their experience playing with high ping

Personally my limit lies around 140-150 ping from my experience playing NA inhouse pugs in the past. 110-120 felt comfortable, though noticeable. This ping was the one I had most experience playing with to NA servers so that's not too surprising. I have some experience playing on brazil servers with 280-300 ping but then it just gets ridiculous unless you go hitscan

honestly if you have less than ~70 ping you shouldn’t be complaining imo

Not being able to discern the difference between 5 and 50 would make me think I was losing my mind.

I wonder if that's because you get like 30 fps. I normally get 10-20 ping and can almost instantly tell a difference if I have ~40-50.

edit: I should say it's not a very big difference, but it is noticeable.

Servers run at 60 tick, so there's an update every ~16.66 milliseconds. So if someone with 5 ping shoots later in the tick, the rocket may appear on the server as late as 21 milliseconds later, but could also appear in pretty much 5 milliseconds.

And then its kinda a bracketing system from there I guess. You're almost always going to be within the same 'bracket' of real time delay.

if you guys can't feel the variance between rocket timings when you shoot early in the tick vs late in the tick (max difference of like 15 realistically), then its reasonable to say that feeling the difference between 25 and 50 ping isn't actually that much

230 as hitscan classes and 120 as projectile classes. I played 230 ping lag Scout in some low level ETF2L 6s and highlander years ago and 120 ping as projectiles because I get that ping to NY and Virginia servers in NA and it blows but it's sort of playable.

I have super shitty internet and when I played this game a lot, consequently it was an irregular night of scrims or pugs if I didn't get 110-120 constant ping because of my brother watching Netflix. Considering that I was used to getting around 30-40 ping to Chicago it made a big difference. The high ping is honestly easier on demo but you can't really capitalize on people's mistakes as easy as you could with lower ping. Soldier is definitely harder as much of a soldiers roll is play making and creating space and distracting. It is significantly harder to make plays on such a high ping. Your play style becomes much of a passive door watching type player. I know for me there was times where I would've gone for a play but I had 110 ping, so I second guessed myself as I was much more likely to fail and put my team at a number disad compared to if I just stayed alive.

360 on Australia servers is somewhat doable, but fights against soldiers and pyros become a lot harder. I think 400 and past is unplayable on scout

Ive played pugs based in asiafortress, ozfortress and seasons in both esea and etf2l, basically any ping below 400 is technically playable. I personally have played soldier in ozfrotress pugs with 350 ping and done fine in low level pugs. when you jump you literally have to click before you turn tho. ive also played a season of etf2l soldier on 190 ping. Again did pretty well. played mid. in NA i play with 80-90 ping and it sucks but its not as bad as 200 or something. I ascended in LAN pugs at rewind 2.

all this being said anything above 60 is aids im just willing to deal with it and keep going. really its up to you how tolerant you'll be with the disadvantage youll have.

I played ESEA demo on 120 ping while living in the UK, it was pretty manageable because I had pretty solid internet. At one point I played from France at 140 and that felt so much worse but could've had to do with the specific internet I had then.

a friend and i were playing mge and after i realized i was playing with 120 ping, so i'd have to disagree with people who say anything above like 50 for projectile is performance affecting

that or i'm a west coast rat used to playing projectile classes on 70 ping
