The dragon primary is amazing and it needs to be whitelisted in ESEA so I can quit Soldier forever.

I thought the Jetpack would be shit but it's pretty good.

You don't spawn with a Gas Can charge so it gets a solid "eh" from me. It does do 1 more damage per tick compared to normal afterburn though.

Pocket Pistol heals 7 HP per hit regardless of how much damage you deal, it's going to be absolutely disgusting.

Mantreads aren't that great.

I'm glad they reverted Claymore change.

I'm glad they nerfed Heavy melees, Crossbow, Rescue Ranger, Sniper shields, Ambassador, Atomizer, and Bonk.

Everything about this update except for the lag and my HUD breaking is just utterly fantastic.

After playing a bit FPS issues galore, weird server stutters ; hard to tell is server or is something specific causes every client to lag at the same time had multiple people report on a community server they all experience a stutter at the exact same time. Among other bugs. and queing is slow as hell.

Winger sound is fucking cool

New Flame thrower manages to be both God-Tier and Shit-tier at the same time. Valve can't math the weapon actually does +200% damage vs burning players (75). The weapon cone of fire is super generous, I swear the weapon range is less than that of a flamethrower which is the big issue with the weapon to easy to use and to easy to abuse its lack of range. Seriously need to tone down the cone of fire by like 30-50% and double the range.

-edit- fuck watching other people play with the weapon makes me rethink what I said above the weapon looks like it has a longer range than I realized idk still feels kinda short to me and the cone of fire is definitely to big imo.

Comanglia-edit- fuck watching other people play with the weapon makes me rethink what I said above the weapon looks like it has a longer range than I realized idk still feels kinda short to me and the cone of fire is definitely to big imo.

it's a particle like the flamethrower and bison, which means inherits the player's momentum (so it goes slightly further if you're walking forward, slightly less so when walking backward), travels slightly upward, deals no knockback, and penetrates players and buildings.

oddly, unlike the bison, it doesn't light huntsman arrows

EDIT: i think a lot of the reason it feels longer is that the much faster speed of the particles effectively gives it a longer "undodgeable range" while you can much more easily avoid the slow stream of particles

having 8 pyros per team made me realize how strong the "blocks healing" flamethrower thing really is
even with vacc you cant really do anything about pyros, specially since flamethrowers do like twice the damage now. no real point on having fire resistance.
also you can tell they put effort in cp_mercenerypark but its the worst map by far in terms of design probably
bananabay is pretty wierd too

edit: if it wasnt for the map police in tf2center i would make some lobbies on the new maps, dont want to get permaban

I dunno if it's just me but ever since the demo nerf I was more afraid of every update TF2 team puts in, as they seem to have no idea at all about why and which classes and unlocks are broken. I wish they only kept making the retarded nonsense changes to unlocks because they can be blacklisted from comp, opposed to any changes at all in class mechanics as they can actually break a class, especially with the understanding they seem to have in the game.

Despite being retired now, I always preferred competitive for being actually fun despite the comp community's size, over gradually allowing dumb unlocks and wishing that TF2 team could pull of something they have never been able to, understand what is broken and how to fix it and what is not.

Contracts have alot content, and seem to be really fun. They certainly motivate me to play Casual.
War paint's a cool concept.
Weapon balances of these weapons weren't on my own priority list, but they're certainly a step to right direction.
Pyro's fixes are great, and they have made playing Pyro much more fun. Haven't tested his new weapons yet, but they also seem great.
Only downisde is that everyone plays Pyro. Hopefully it will settle down to normal pretty soon.

I'm also sad that there weren't MM fixes, since it'd have made it even greater to play Casual. I hope they'll be fixes for it soon.

Also the taunts are great, especially the one where you turn into Yeti.
Overall, decent update, maybe little underwhelming, but that's probably because I overhyped little bit.

The new flamethrower is so stupidly good. It just shreds everyone. It feels weird that pyro is actually a threat now.

the sound of broken bones when you take fall damage sounds like something out of cs 1.6, very out of place.

I like the fact you can play on a jump map or do whatever while queueing.
Although a game coordinator that doesn't shit it's pants would be nice.
Also big player peak: over 95k simulateous players.

I can't believe I actually love all the changes. sixies meta unlocks remain unchanged (why buff the mangler even more though?), highlander snipers must finally choose between being 1shot sniped or backstabbed.

the worst thing is that ridiculous pyro damage because it is actually sometimes scary to try to fuck them with hitscan now. it is gonna take some time to treat them differently. also new particles are too bright imo.

the flame behavior is amazing, now it kinda "hugs" walls or bounces off them a little bit.

I'm not disappointed about competitive changes since I was not expecting any form of valve-made competitive tf2 to work. not because of people playing or developer team doing wrong things, but because without all the stuff that community made over the years it simply won't be as enjoyable as everyone is used it to be - no logs, no stv, no whitelists that were discussed and constructed by a lot of people in order to make the game fair and interesting. even if you possibly could solve the whitelist problem by balancing weapons and solving players clusterfucking by making class limits or at least having class composition notes (we need a medic / don't go spy wen we don't have enough power classes / etc.), you'll never have that amount of services that are purely community-driven and it is too late to add something similar because it won't be nearly as good.

I was hoping for a good skill based weapon for the pyro, but the Dragon's Fury is just a more annoying flamethrower. It should have been either a fireball or an lg gun. This cloud of fire looks like shit, can't even see where it's going or where it's coming from. Not to mention in first person view the gun is pointing nowhere near the crosshair, and the flames are coming from the center of the screen, with an annoying brief white flash whenever you fire. Absolute cancer visually.

the flames imo are really bad, cant even see projectiles to airblast if youre holding m1, way too fucking bright and obnoxious, more clutter to the screen when this game needed some cleaning in that department

gemmMessing_Aroundthe Reserve Shooter man, wtf, they just removed the minicrit bonus on airblast
This is kinda good and bad...

Like it's pretty much the only weapon that EVERYONE thinks is better than shotgun for pyro and theres a gentleman's agreement not to use, and now it's probably worse.

On the other hand, it's still stupidly good at denying jumpers in comp and won't be unbanned.

And now pyro has NO way (other than maybe the new primary) to activate it. It's literally a random weapon that crushes jumpers that doesn't belong on pyro any more. ENGI WILL ACTIVATE IT MORE OFTEN FFS

Honestly I didn't see too many pub pyros running the reserve shooter, and it's been banned in 6's for as long as I can remember, and most HL leagues banned it as well AFAIK, it was a extremely broken weapon on pyro but it wasn't really used that much. It's useless on pyro now though. I feel like it the nerf was warranted, but it got over nerfed.

And the ambassador nerf really surprised me. They nerfed it because "Players that are head-shot from across the map are expecting to see a Sniper in their death-cam, but they sometimes see (more often that we'd like) a Spy with a revolver". If you can headshot someone across the map with the ambassador it's either dumb luck or skill, I don't see why something like that should be nerfed. If they really wanted to nerf it they could of gave it even more cool down time between headshots or reduced the clip size or something like that.

A reminder we're reaching record numbers of concurrent players (95k being the peak today, while usually it's around 50k, so that's nearly a double). Imagine all those players that are trying out competitive matchmaking now :) That, and the casual queue takes average of 20 minutes. Way to make a good impression.

Concludedi feel most of these changes suck due to utility creep clownery over 10 yrs (bonk, razorback, gru, base jumper) and unlock oversaturation.
the heart of most of these items gets lost through repeated attempts at convoluted balancing (amby, bonk, atomizer, etc etc). the wordage on these new changes is so dense and cluttered. meanwhile we have gunboats : -60% self damage at the cost of no shotgun.

I'm late to respond to this, but I think this is an interesting point. Although I agree items have strayed from their original vision, I would argue that this is not a bad thing, and that the heart of an item is not something that's fixed at the start, but rather something that's continually redefined. It's not an actual thing, it's just based on perspective. Consider, for example, someone who's just picked up the game - what they understand to be the essence of an item such as Bonk is what it is now. So, I would say the evolution of an item's underlying concept is fine, and the light-hearted character of TF2 definitely facilitates weirder ideas.

That being said, I don't have anything against your point of these changes being convoluted - definitely more elegant alterations would be good, but it shouldn't matter if these alterations are fundamentally significant or not.
