Are you happy with the pyro update changes?

https://strawpoll.com/84k91k7s

Feel free to discuss the changes here too

Personally I feel like it's rather disappointing but it's more because we were leaked the changes a while ago and nothing really has differed bar a few items from then in a significant time period, classic community made 90% of it valve update with the only thing they're doing is more engine sided work rather than actual content

as for the unlocks, I feel the mantreads could be iffy depending on how much 200% aircontrol actually changes strafing and Is meta-changing potentially, more so than having a full time pyro, same for the Vita-Saw in the case of going for desperation saws you wouldn't get punished for bad play if you get some lucky saws, I was hoping they'd change that but they didn't.

All the other items seemed to be on a different level overall in comparison to what they changed having not much potential to really change the game in my eyes (not in the same way the mantreads would).

Edit: Now that day 4 has came out I don't think the mantreads are op, I do think the Vita-Saw should be banned though. everything else was same.

As for the pyro weapons I'd like to see them tested and maybe implemented sometime next season after people learn the mechanics of them fully, I like the changes they made to pyros' weapons, I feel the jetpack should have a faster deploy speed and the ability to either double jump (use both charges in the air) or have skill based movement like strafing. The pyro jarate should recharge faster because I don't see it being very useable in most situations other than choke points, other weapons are more useable for the entirety of the game, I feel the fury might need slight tweaking but who knows.

I'm very tied. I appreciate that valve knows they can't fuck up again, and they really want to ranked revamp to shine.

But i'm so, so, so tired of being told to wait a little longer. I've waited a little longer for years. If it takes them this long just to fix their mistakes, what hope is there once it's fixed that it will be properly cared for in the long term?

Competitive changes is what I waited this long for. Not pyro pack, not maps, even the weapon changes did not need this much time. I waited for competitive changes. Without that, this update falls short of my personal bar.

Without the comp changes... it doesn't seem like this is 2-3 major updates... like seriously, the patch notes weren't that extensive. If this is the new standard for a large update im gonna be disappointed when a regular major update comes out :c

Also... They didn't revert sticky nerf... Fucking...

opinion

I knew that the TF2 community was always delusional and full of weebs and "I walk in the rain so people dont see my tears" kind of people (specially comp players).
BUT TODAY

It got even more delusional that it can humanly possible be!

I cant believe people are so blinded holy shit I was also hyped for it and even had the balls to reinstall.

We should have given lawbreakers a 2nd chance

edit: hahaha see? a lot of people are disappointed!

edit 2: people know I'm right but they are still blind so I Get downfragged xd no regrets for being subtle

I think that if you completely ignore the promises surrounding the competitive mode and causal browser, the actual pyro changes were pretty nice.

Of course things need to get tested to know what will actually affect the game, everything else is basic theory crafting, but nothing seems immediately broken. The bug fixes are nice.

i want to like it because everything is great

but the fact that there are no competitive changes, absolutely fucking none, after 500 days is enough to sour it for me

i brought it up in the other thread. theyre acknowledging that some unlocks (razorback) are very powerful in organized tournaments. but what does this mean? are they gonna start balancing more around organized play? or is it just this one instance?

pocket pistol seems insanely good

also cow mangler buff makes me wonder just how in tune the valve team is with comp changes

also makes me wonder if they look at the new whitelist, or did slin do that all for naught

I think we need to look at the bigger picture, valve understands that building a game around the competitive community is best for both the casual and competitive community and is now actively working with the competitive community,

but 500 days, 500 fucking days, just to revamp the system from a ladder to an elo. AND THEN NOT EVEN DO THAT. that's ridiculous.

THEBILLDOZERi brought it up in the other thread. theyre acknowledging that some unlocks (razorback) are very powerful in organized tournaments. but what does this mean? are they gonna start balancing more around organized play? or is it just this one instance?

They've balanced around competitive play before, had an entire private Invite competitive beta which pushed changes in https://wiki.teamfortress.com/wiki/August_13,_2009_Patch & https://wiki.teamfortress.com/wiki/September_15,_2009_Patch most notably. (you'll notice the Granary changes outright specify competitive feedback too)

In general Valve has always been okay with making changes that they don't feel will hurt pubs in any way, which is why the Razorback nerf is something they're going to be very comfortable making:

* Medics don't buff Snipers as is in pubs lmao.

* The recharge time is basically a pub buff where the Razorback really isn't crazy broken 99% of the time anyways because people rarely do tryhard Sniper combos in them.

* Doesn't really affect 6s, you don't have a Spy to go after a Sniper that much.

* Fixes the problem it has in Highlander.

Basically it's a free change, you fix the problem some people have with the weapon without harming the experience of the majority of the players who don't perceive the Razorback to be broken or don't have their whole meta dictated by it.

I liked that they thought about competitive play, but honestly, I don't see what could have taken this long in this update. There weren't as many weapons re-works as I thought there would be, and while the pyro stuff is cool, this seems more like an update that should have been released 3 months after conception, not 15. Also, the lack of competitive changes doesn't make any sense. Why balance around competitive play if the gamemode itself is flawed? Unless they're releasing a competitive update soon after this, this doesn't add up to me. i hate to sound like I'm hating on Valve because it's easy to, this update just seems to be odd in its focus. They updated mannpower more than competitive, and focused more on the casual ranking system more than competitive. For an update which appears designed to support the comp scene, this seems odd.

ehh, its good that they nerfed unlocks that needed nerfing, props for that. Thing is they didnt make any underpowered/not used unlocks viable at all, except mantreads.

also that engi buff in setup time, is it only applied when using rescue ranger? not sure if they misplaced that sentence.

still a great update

im happy with the current changes, but would like the comp changes asap. the image geel posted confirms that they're taking their time to make sure the comp changes work well. they have 10 people on the team, with only 2 or 3 coders. they are passionate about the game but are limited by circumstances. i trust them for now

AlexandrosUnless they're releasing a competitive update soon after this, this doesn't add up to me.

We know that they have been working on reworking mm, and according to that geel post they don't feel ready with what they have been working on, so I think it coming in a later update is a safe bet.

BRKyou didn't even edit your post you just wrote that in?

overall this seems like a great update but i'm not sure how it took them this long to rebalance/add a few weapons and fix casual lobbying...

plus, do we even know if they actually *fixed* flamethrower mojo? they didn't specifically state that they did, just that they got rid of the "visual mismatch" or whatever

regardless, it seems like a good update, but not as big as i had hoped, and it's slightly disappointing

that being said, good on valve for still supporting this 10 year old game with its whiny fanbase (a la reddit) and actually releasing something

on second thought, i'm really happy with all the changes announced. i'm just salty because i really want an elo system in tf2 already, it should've happened in mym imo, but there's enough new content for me to enjoy anyways so it's all good for the moment.

the thing is that it also applied to crossbow which didnt get fixed for sure so hmm
