What's the best monitor for competitive gaming right now? Is it still the same as how it was like two years ago? Do you guys know if anything better is being developed?

Had this PC for about 5 years, but doesn't seem like there's a point to upgrade it if i'm hitting 240 FPS every game I play unless the monitors get better

gamer-y monitor tech hasnt really progressed much, the biggest improvement I've gotten was from chasing motion clarity, source is kinda fucky in that aspect but atm 144hz smooth > 210-240hz on my 32in g7

The ViewSonic XG2431 is better than the 240hz dyac from benq and cheaper. There's also that LG 240hz OLED that was announced, but it's not out yet.

the difference between 240hz and 360hz is negligible, speaking from experience. If you can find one for not that much more go for it, but it's not worth spending any extra money on

most people say that, but it was also popular opinion that there wasn't much difference between 144hz and 240hz initially

I doubt there is any 500+ hz monitor with a fast enough pixel response time for there to be any real benefit over about 300 hz (or it costs $2000)

or you could add between 20 to 40 dollars to your expensive monitor purchase (which surely you're choosing purely based on performance and feature set) to add a simple and effective monitor arm

imo 144vs 240 (280 in my case even) isn't even that noticable, like i can def tell the difference but if ur gonna upgrade i'd say just go for the 500hz. imo it feels like going from 120 to 160, u can feel and see it but it's not gonna be even close to a game changer like 60 to 144

From today's research, I learned that there are even some 240hz better than 360hz and 500hz even if you reach that FPS, so maybe that's why you feel that way Funky. Sort of depends on what monitor you are having and then its about the whole package of that monitor

For example, some monitors have features like Dyac or better response time. I haven't finished learning all about it, but I think that the 240hz ones are actually better than some of the 500hz ones.

I think from what I've seen, the newer 240hz OLED panels (they are costing 1k) are even beating the 360hz benq for example

But if you're looking for a monitor this year, you might want to hold off for better panels in the upcoming months

currently picking between ViewSonic XG2431 and BenQ XL2540K

ive seen good recommendations above on the viewsonic + optimum tech guide, on the other side i read about some ppl having problems with the screen after like 6 months of use (half of the monitor just dies)

From what I read the Viewsonic has lots of issues and isn't actually clearer than the BenQ. They just paid the Blurbuster dudes for the certificate. I don't think the BenQ 240hz is worth it in 2024 though

LG Ultragear 27GP850-B seems to be inexpensive and good option with 1440p and 180hz after overclocking, i have a couple of these panels
it's IPS so it's not 1 ms delay (if you enable actual 1ms, screen tearing is unbearable) but it has great colors and HDR (nice for single games)
27GP950* is the same model but 4k instead of 2k
this screen is 1649 PLN so something like 385 EUR
i am pretty sure if narkkari notices this thread he will be able to throw some potentially better recommendations because he is following all screen related news on the market

OLED is leagues ahead from other screens but i doubt most people would like to buy a screen for 1200-1300 EUR
the best screens on the market has features to somewhat circumvent this burning pixel effect but it's quite experimental so it's kinda risky to these i feel

Depends on your budget. If you're just looking at that Viewsonic budget which is like £300, then yeah the BenQ is the best option. If I wasn't waitng on tbe 480hz OLED, I'd buy the 360hz OLED Alienware for like 700ish
