Update:
I switched out my 1x16gb 2400mhz RAM for 2x8GB 3200mhz RAM and got the following result:

2639 frames 12.496 seconds 211.19 fps ( 4.74 ms/f) 15.824 fps variability

I am quite surprised at how much of an FPS boost i got from this upgrade.

Even adjusting for clockrates that's about +30% for TF2 from Zen2 to Zen3, which is very nice.

This is with the exact same base rig: 4x8GB DDR4-2400, GTX 1080, 1440p. All runs were on the exact same SSD/install. I will be upgrading to 2x16GB DDR4-3200 later, but figured the 5900X+2400 numbers might be interesting.

Also just a protip: At very high framerates, timedemo is actually not reliable enough, and doesn't scale properly. It's an easy metric to use when gauging whether a certain FPS config actually helps, but it doesn't provide good enough numbers to tell by how much it helps. It is much, much better to use an actual demo and record performance data using FrameView or FRAPS.

dxlevel (default is 90): 81
Resolution: 1920x1080
Full-screen or windowed: Full
FPS configs enabled: modified mastercoms medium-low

Additional notes: using mastercoms benchmark_test as link in op is down

4812 frames 9.961 seconds 483.08 fps ( 2.07 ms/f) 54.533 fps variability

Hm, on a 5600X I'm getting numbers that don't seem quite as high. I'm only running 3200Mhz CL16 RAM, and I'm using Mastercoms medium-low. I'm not pulling bad numbers (check previous post for benchmarks, I've also tested on dxlevel 81 and had pretty much the same benches as my other post) but the deltas between our benches is really large. Is this expected?

Recently I have grown tired of Windows BS and decided to try out Linux again. I figured since all the games I play are available on Linux, I might as well give it a go. I was pleasantly surprised.

Here is a comparison with Windows I did. Not completely in depth, but I ran the demo 6 times on each system. Windows was de-bloated and had process affinities 4,6,8,10. On Linux, TF2 was ran via Lutris with Feral Gamemode and ACO enabled (basically I tried to get the most FPS on both)

Testing setup:
CPU: AMD R5 2600X locked at 4.2GHz
RAM: 16GB 3200MHz CL14-14-14-28
GPU: AMD RX 580 at stock speeds
Resolution: 2560x1440
OS: Windows 20H1 (dx98) / Pop! OS 20.10 (dx92)
CFG: Mastercomfig medium-high tweaked

https://i.imgur.com/O5n6SB2.png

AVG Windows: 235.63FPS
AVG Linux: 244.47FPS

Linux wins by 9FPS! It also feels much smoother to play in-game too, but I have no way of measuring that. The only real issue is that fonts look a bit different, but it's not a big deal to be honest.

These findings are supported in other games like CS:GO. Considering you can get Office running via Wine perfectly, and Proton allows many Windows games to run, this might be a viable option for many people. Games like DOOM 2016 run flawlessly with about a 2FPS loss, despite not being supported on Linux. Pretty cool. If you have some free time try it out!

Yeah how Windows and Source interact for threading adds a lot of overhead and latency to the frame. That's sort of what I was working on that gave the biggest gains in TC2.

anyone that knows things does this sound right? is this just cos im bottlenecked by the gpu or is there smth i can do to improve it now?

710gt is harsh Vouri, you better find a retailed gpu for like 50 bucks which will work way better than what you currently have. Yeah you're being bottlenecked by you gpu atm

I think borderless window gaming has improved, but it will certainly still add input lag which will make the low-ish fps feel even worse.

Also have you overclocked your cpu? If not, you're definitely wasting potential there.

Glastry- New cpu like i9-9900k

Why a 9900K? He doesn't need that many cores and there's newer and faster CPUs. Nor does it fit his mobo, buying an older CPU that he needs a new mobo for doesn't make any sense.

Ram oc seems to make the largest difference as I seem to get equal performance with 5.2ghz unless cache speed makes a difference. I'm not sure what I can do overclocking wise to improve performance though.
