EU.RGL.gg Season 1 Registration is live

The league is completely FREE.

After seeing the size and success of our EU Prolander One Day Cup, we decided to open up our new league to be free to everyone. We even provide your team with a match server to play on.

Prizepool: $1,000

If you have some competitive experience under your belt, I suggest jumping into: RGL-Invite, Div-1 or Div-2. If you're newer to competitive TF2 player or just someone who's a bit lower leveled. Jump into our recreational division.

What people have to say about Prolander

We hosted a One Day Cup earlier this month with 62 teams registered! We had a survey for our first cup in NA and I was astounded by the results. Over 90% of the people who filled out survey said they enjoyed playing Prolander. Here are some of the responses:

  • "Yes! 7s is my favorite format. More dynamic than 6s, Less clunky/congested than HL."
  • "Yeah, it was fun to play competitive for the first time, and I liked that you could class switch."
  • "Prolander is my favorite format to watch competitive TF2, and it was also fun to play."
  • "it was a an interesting take on highlander that really mixes it up. there was a lot of discussion on my team on what maps we needed certain classes on for strategy purposes."

Finding a team

If you're looking for a team. Make a post in our looking for team section of the RGL website. Also make sure to check back occasionally and see what teams are posting in the teams looking for players section of the RGL website.

clearly the solution is to poll 6s players as to whether they like 7s

It's almost as if people enjoy playing TF2. I don't understand why you would post here just to say "I don't like [thing]."

Fair point, though this was a one day cup. Meant as a way to to try out the format, so a majority of people who played/responded to this survey have not played prolander in our team setting prior. After the NA one day cup, our NA league size doubled the next season.

So it's definitely fair that we're going to appeal to people who enjoy all classes in tf2 and enjoy the most popular map types, but this was also the first time people had a go at it and they liked it. They easily could of thought negatively or neutral about it, but they didn't, they overwhelmingly enjoy it.

How many of those people have actually played 6's before on a team? Those replies sound like something someone whose only played TF2Center or played ugc 6s for one season would say.

I believe when they talk about the "dynamic"-ness of it, they're more referencing that class selection is more dynamic in Prolander than sixes. In sixes you see only a subset of classes in the game for a majority of the game. Whereas in Prolander all classes virtually are genuinely viable at all times.

When it comes to to actual dynamic-ness of strategy (how to push, what routes, how to break stalemates, etc...) I don't think you could say sixes (or any format really) isn't dynamic in that way. Of course it is.

my favorite thing about RGL is that slin thought you were running a league to try out different game types. Then, once every player with a history of advanced level tf2 told you 7s was not a good game mode, you would change it up to see if there is a better way.

Don't say you wanna grow tf2 while also ignoring the fact that Valve chose 6s as the primary competitive game mode

You're just wasting money.

If you're going for dynamicness then UGC 4's would be even more dynamic as you can only have 4 classes instead of 7, which means you need to put even more thought and strategy into your classes.

But that gamemode is horrible and probably the worst competitive gamemode to exist. Being more dynamic isn't always necessarily a good thing.

You're just wasting money.

The original idea of the Challenge Cup was to find if we could create a format which allowed class viablity, while still having a fast paced, dynamic game. When Prolander worked so incredibly well at that, it as hard not to continue with it.

I have plans to host some experimental cups with different rules to see how they play. I'm not stuck on the seven players being the best number and anything less is wrong. What I am stuck on, is believing that having all classes be viable in comp. I believe that makes the game more interesting. And whatever player count that comes to, that's fine with me. If it's 4,5,6 or 7. If it works, then great.

Having unpopular opinions is not allowed here, sir. The only game mode you're allowed to like and support is 6s.

Agreed, I mean you look at Sixes currently in Matchmaking. Technically that is the most class dynamic comp format currently out there. No class limits allows the most combinations you could play (technically.) Most everyone agrees having no class limits did not make a better comp format, despite having six players. Then it just becomes a question of what class limits, help out tf2 have a mixture of fast/fun gameplay, but still allowing all class viability.

why not put this 1000 dollars into a 6s tournament. you have the connections, you could easily donate this money to ESEA for the invite div to encourage more invite teams to play the already most popular mode (which by the way is time tested for 10 years) but instead you really want to push this mode that fractures the community moreso than it already is, and for what? do you genuinely believe this thing you came up with, that -- to be blunt -- is not radically different at all, is a better competitive format for TF2? valve has set their mind on 6s, you should be supporting that
