As a newer competitive player this stuff is so overwhelming. I feel I'm too late to competitive to have any fun in it like any of the veterans here have. I, even with my little experience, have way less fun in games with items like the rescue ranger. When I started to get into competitive I was readily willing to give up the classes or weapons that I liked using to be apart of what looked like this fast-paced action-packed blast that I saw at the Dreamhacks and Insomnias. But Valve doesn't cater to people like that, they want pyro mains and engy mains in pubs to be happier than the toptier players. Nothing is going anywhere with Valve, so b4nny needs to stop sucking them off and focus on making the game fun. I know I'm new and my opinion might not mean that much, but it seems like nobody's happy with this game right now, and I want to be apart of a community where we can sustain ourselves and be happy no matter what the devs do. This doesn't seem to be the case, and I its upsetting I might never truly get to play those fast-paced games I used to watch.

Your opinion as a new player is actually valuable since this community is composed of mostly old/vet players and it's frequently discussed (like this thread) on how to bring new people into the scene and what would make them feel more comfortable.

It's usually just old players speaking for new players but having an actual new player give their opinion is as genuine as it gets.

i agree that jarate and rescue ranger need to go

why does everyone hate the CM5K? is picking up ammo what makes tf2 fun and exciting to watch and play? is charge shotting overpowered? i've asked a ton of people why they don't like / use the CM5K and the answer has pretty much always been "the viewmodel makes me want to kill myself" or "doesn't fire from center".

the current whitelist we have would literally be fine without jarate, rr, and battalion's backup. I really can't understand or sympathize with the call to return to a medlocks + gunboats whitelist.

cm5k cons:

projectile harder to see (as far as determining where the actual hitbox is)
unlimited ammo (soldier can afk spam a choke forever)
retarded gimmick charge shot
more obnoxious particle effects

pros:

valve might maybe give us money if we unban unlocks??

Odd, I don't have a problem with seeing the projectile with default graphics, and my eyesight is shit. Is it on a specific setting?

Why does jumping to an ammo kit every 8 rockets fired make for a more exciting game?

the charge shot is irrelevant outside of making big sentries un-rescuable, it's loud and has a massive windup

last point doesn't matter

The thing I'd like to discuss is the second point. Do teams or players actually push when a Soldier jumps away to get ammo? If so, then the CM5K contributes to slowing down the game by removing those push opportunities. In my experience, I have never pushed or been pushed because I or an enemy soldier has jumped away to get ammo. There is an argument for pushing when a Soldier empties his clip and is therefore vulnerable, but the CM5K also does that.

I feel like the change from limited to infinite ammo is like having to tell individual workers to start mining when they spawn and artificially-tiny control groups [EDIT: in starcraft brood war, elements that were removed in the sequel]. Yes, it removes an element of the game that separates good players from bad players, but it was a tedious, useless element whose removal allowed players to focus more on things that are fun and exciting, like fighting people.

ALSO 1 more thing: ban the machina because it encourages bodyshotting, can't be bodyblocked which is silly, and 1shots pain train demos. the only thing that prevents sniper from being overpowered is that its difficult, anything that makes it easier should be banned

if we dont test things in a competitive environment valve will be clueless to balance them. Maybe we should just reban those weapons, valve slightly nerfs them and we move on.

Hard to play test when you play 5 or 6 of the same maps, mainly with 5cp, mainly with 4 or 5 classes, with classlimits designed to cater for a hybrid gamemode that developed over many years in a comparatively small game where 95% of the players do not play for the competitive aspect.

Of course you're the raucous minority. Deal with it.

I guess I can pipe in as a newer player too. I started one season before universal whitelist and I have to say that was the best time I had. Not because any of the mechanics are particularly game-breaking, but because the first season I played I fell in love with how streamlined and uncluttered 6s felt compared to HL (which is where I originally came from). When the unlocks got unbanned it felt a bit more like I was playing HL again with random, minorly aggravating shit - the obnoxious cowmangler rockets and sound, people randomly being jarate'd or on fire, the mini sentry memes or the rescue ranger tanking a sentry through more than it should (though to be honest I've so far been lucky to never play against someone who actually knows how to use it properly).

Has any of it like, SERIOUSLY impacted me in-game? Not really, but it's made it less enjoyable for sure. And the thing is... I would be willing to put up with all of this aggravation if there was actually ANY sign that Valve gave a shit. They're still making millions off of TF2, they made like a million bucks off of Halloween alone. How fucking much would it be to ask for them to donate $10,000 (i.e. 1% of their earnings from this game from two weeks) to the Rewind prize pool (or hell, forget the prize pool, officially subsidize some of the expenses for teams coming from far away) to ACTUALLY show that they do care and they ARE paying attention, and that our sacrifice of our enjoyment is actually going to lead somewhere?

I asked you yesterday on stream b4nny, if Valve putting in money is what was actually going to revive TF2 and you said yes and then went on to talk about how the game needs to be fixed first. I don't think they have the luxury of time anymore. OW didn't become big because it's an amazing game, it became big because Blizzard took a huge financial risk and invested in their game, invested in advertising, invested in literally buying public figures from other games to help them promote their game as a legitimate alternative, invested in a large, responsive developer team and then continued to push their game as something to be taken seriously. It breaks my heart when I go and watch someone like War or Paulsen stream and all I hear is talk of passionate, dedicated people who took their TF2 hobby as seriously as a full-time job talking about how Rewind is their last big hurrah and that they're all leaving because after years of passion and investment, they can't do it anymore. It makes me sad I wasn't here earlier and it isn't putting Valve in a good light when they are just fucking ignoring all of the amazing people who literally gave this game their life.

Is it the developer's fault? I don't think so. I think the small developer team TF2 has is overworked and understaffed and I think they genuinely care about the game. They literally have to take scraps of code and bug fixes from the community because they just don't have time to get to all of it. But Valve, the management, don't give a shit, and the developer team doesn't have the authorization, or the funds, do this game justice. And I don't think sacrificing our enjoyment is going to reach that management that actually needs to give a shit.

TL;DR: I'm all up for changing things up and having to deal with the fallout, but at this point in time, I think as a community we've already made our blood sacrifice. The ball is in Valve's court and they need to show that they actually are listening and do care about aggressively supporting this game's success.

b4nnyI have never said anything about being entitled to being paid to play TF2. In fact that's what everyone else is seemingly demanding. I'd have as much to gain if not more than everyone else if I quit for OW too. For entitled please read below:

In my post where I admit that you have legitimate credibility to your logic, you interpreted it as an entitled remark about demanding more content. When I was clearly saying that I feel I have been patient with valve and that patience has paid off with nothing but heartbreak. I didn't say I deserve more, I didn't say valve is obliged to give me more, I said that for what we've seen over the course of the past year, majority of people have not felt like they did all that they could. If you're going to make a human shield out of my post, at least make a logical one.

I don't feel like torturing myself to go back and read/quote all of your posts on TFTV, reddit and on your Youtube channel but literally every time I see you speak about TF2 in general or competitive TF2 lately, you just echo the same entitled mentality and even take it to further extremes. While I don't disagree that TF2 is a great game and its competitive scene has huge potential that I hope becomes realized, I'm trying to be more realistic about taking provably more effective baby steps towards that instead of making these absurd unrealistic demands that accomplish nothing. Hopefully it eases your concerns a little to at least know that I'm rooting for you over Muselk for the esteemed position of poster boy of the TF2 YouTuber complainer movement.

most people including him iirc are just asking that valve put more effort into balancing items and improving their matchmaking system. few people are asking for "1 million dollar major pls volvo!!!" or some kind of huge fix-everything update.

i know you're more optimistic than most people with regards to tf2 but even you can see that mym was a general step back and after the release of mm valve hasn't done enough to improve the system - people have the right to complain

The fact you think entitlement goes hand in hand with having even the slightest disagreement with how updates or communication are handled just shows how disconnected you really are from reality.
