Also it's odd that they only seem to have 1 person involved in feedback. One would expect Valve to require a range of opinions, but tbh who knows what relationship banny and valve even have. It's a mystery. As usual.

Foxit's not a select few members of the community though

it's literally only b4nny

almost the entire production staff for tf.tv was in the dark until the email they just received, and they said it was an extremely late response anyways lol

I didn't know about that, that's pretty dumb

You'd figure from valves eyes they'd value more feedback as better, i don't get why they'd cut their line that short

Did valve take the initiative to invite b4nny or did he really invite himself there? I figured it was the latter because he was back home and he's from Seattle.

"On -day- we will release an update to competitive mode and numerous performance improvements. Tf2 compendium cosmetics will be added and the revenue will be split between map-makers, tournament production and tournament prizes. We will sponsor the insomnia58 tf2 tournament for a 500000$ prize pool."
-Valve, never

It could be so easy

dropping half a million on a tf2 tournament ? lol that would be so easy....
all we need now is a tweet from flame saying "soon .." and a couple of months from now we´ll get the update

It is easy for valve, they make roughly 4 times as much per day. By the time they have filled the check, steam sales already paid it.

i think jumping into huge prizepools so fast is a bad step; why just hand [invite teams from this season] $500K right off the bat

go into this slowly, so more people know, learn, and develop teams (like it'd even happen)

the301stspartan"...We will sponsor the insomnia58 tf2 tournament for a 500000$ prize pool."

500k prize pool is not an easy thing to do for a competitive community as small as tf2's. though I agree a compendium would be the best way they could show support if they don't want to dump that kind of investment into tf2 comp

SideshowAlso it's odd that they only seem to have 1 person involved in feedback. One would expect Valve to require a range of opinions, but tbh who knows what relationship banny and valve even have. It's a mystery. As usual.

this disappoints me too. it would make sense to invite more people to valve if they were after input (like the visit a year or two ago that b4nny managed to get himself on)

tbh a lot of people would probably take that huge prize pool then never touch the game again if valve just went in headfirst

Not all money goes to first prize, and america doesn't always win insomnia. With a large prize pool in any i-series tourney, I'm pretty sure strong teams would form all over the world. Not just tournaments, just in general, valve sits on a mountain of money, and tf2 can very much use money. Think about it, all the money that has collectively ever gone into competitive tf2 from the community, for production or prizes, including fundraisers and sponsorships, probably adds up to less than volvo makes in a day. A big prizepool like that is equivalent to one of us donating 20$. Even just the profit they make from tf2 could give tf2 a huge boost both in production and prizes.

Max_DishSoapCapSizePeople might not like b4nny as a person but you gotta respect his dedication to TF2i cant respect 10k hours to fucking VIDEOGAME
Putting a lot of hours into a hobby isn't that bad especially if you've been doing it since 2007. Not to mention thare are thousands of people with more hours than b4nny and not even close to as succesful as he has been

Isnt it kinda his job too?

Y'all rag on him for dedicating such time to it but he has acquired valuable leadership and interpersonal skills with new and experienced members furthering his knowledge of the game. That's why Valve values his opinion, and Valve knows they can't listen to everyone so they chose wisely. His insight is unparalleled to the next best player they can fly in on such short notices.

I think competitive gaming will evolve to develop great leaders. We haven't been in the life cycle for very long to see the lasting impact the experiences can bring to the real world yet so public opinion can't rest assured what we are doing with our spare time is of any value. But you just have to believe, and banny will probably be the first success story to come from this game at least.

what criteria?

they literally want to show the only person trying to make a living off of tf2 what they have planned and see what his impressions are.

nobody else plays the game at his level right now. he literally just took a mid level IM team and turned them into invite champions (shots fired muma).

b4nnys been pretty selfless about the whole tf2 thing. kid was like fuck my life im playing tf2 this games where i belong. he has no alterior motives, hes just dedicated beyond any comprehendable level to this game for some reason. that shits hard to find. obviously other people are 'dedicated' but are they dedicated and familiar enough with every mechanic in the game (he literally pubs, jumps, highlanders, and 6v6s ALL DAY EVERYDAY)

get over it. valve isnt asking him for help. they just wanna see his reaction to it, unfiltered.

the people who we thought were going to go to blizzard to help overwatch just smiled and nodded and now the games about to get launched without an anticheat client afaik.

valve has plans, banny has ideas, i see no negatives to this.

I could care less who the ambassador for this game is as long as the game ends up being awesome. Regardless of what b4nny's position is, Valve has been consistently doing a lot of little things right ever since the Gun Mettle update and that's all that matters to me.

I can see your point, but there is a counter consideration and it is important. If they give b4nny patronage like this they're entering scene politics which is something they very much don't like to do for obvious reasons. Fact is there are some people with low morale who are getting fed up of Valve's choices, some that everybody knows about, some that not many people know about.

There's a good chance some familiar faces will be moving on soon, whether with a big splash or in silence. It's a shame because the game is reaching a critical point and gathering the troops could lead to some really good things being prepared, and some of the talent and experience that's around now won't be there when Valve's ready. Sure they might come back, but they might not.

It would be good if they could throw a bone to some of the people laying the groundwork for this stuff, and I don't mean a hat.
