This is excellent time to strike.
Great plan would be to give beta access to some people and promote comp so we get shitton of people hyped and watching matchmaking streams

Why exactly do people think MM is gonna be so huge? I've never gotten the impression that your average pub player would want to play 6v6 let alone highlander. Sure, maybe 2 people per 24 slot server, but they'll just be stuck in matchmaking and probably not 'move on' to proper leagues.

What you guys don't realize is that competitive matchmaking is just a joke, and they're going to add a dating aspect to TF2 and the reason for the beta is that they need to optimize the system to make sure that no one will get Sideshow.

It's relative.

10% of everybody who plays tf2 using mm is a big deal lol, tf2 is one of the biggest and most played games on steam. And the challenge for us is getting them to move into a league, that's where we have to put in the work advertising etc in the same way csgo does.

Also your impression of the pub community is about 3 years out of date, the vocal majority are very hyped for matchmaking and starting to really get their teeth into comp stuff recently, if you take a look at anywhere you can find pubbers discussing stuff e.g. reddit, spuf, youtube comments.

if u go on to /r/tf2 you'll notice 2 things
1.) they're horribly retarded
2.) they put a lot of effort into this game

they genuinely enjoy tf2: the teamwork, the DM, and the class selection
all of these are things are improved outside of pubs
the 10% of them who think tf2 should just be a casual game where no one tries get downvoted
they'll like mm

If Valve release it at any time before OW gets actually launched I think that's still pretty good timing.

I wonder what pubbers think of competitive tf2 now and what they expect from mm
Probably nothing important but just would be interesting to know

I'm pretty sure the average 24 player server pubber didn't even dream about paying to shoot robots in order to get fancy items.
Lo and behold, Valve is making money by offering them exactly that.

Honestly I just want to see what the tf2 purists are going to say now. "Tf2 was built as a pub game!! Comp is disgusting!!"

Do their minds just implode now?

I got into competitive straight from Valve public servers. When I first heard of the idea of "Competitive" it seemed so foreign; it took me a few months before I actually starting getting into competitive after extensive Google research.

There ARE pub players who would be into competitive play and just never heard of competitive TF2; we also now have greater resources for bringing new players into competitive (tf2center, playcomp.tf, more streamers/subreddits dedicated). MM will bring exposure to people that never heard of competitive and it WILL bring in fresh blood.

Let's get this MM thing started :)

Now is relative enough.

I'm not too concerned about MM, although I'm kinda worried it'll bring the intellectual level of tf2 down. I mean most of the people who get to the highest rank, I feel like, won't even know about respawn times and capping, for example.
I'm bad, my game sense is horrible, but I still know the stuff that goes on in high end tf2, from watching b4nny's shoutcasts and stuff, and that gives me that chance too improve, I'm just worried that stuff might get buried under the massive pile of stupidity and meta-game that might go on in MM.
But it shouldn't be much of a problem, cuz it will always be there for someone to pick up and use in their advantage,

unlike games such as csgo that have basically no mechanics other than point and shoot.

that's a pretty stupid thing to be worried about, it's pretty obvious that lower level competition will have lower level gameplay. Why would that affect top level? Open doesn't bring invite/prem down.
