Hello,
I have been informed by my contacts that your team is not going to be attending the "PoLANd.tf" event held in Łódź, Poland. On behalf of the community of "Team Fortress 2" I would like to know:

  • Why has your "prestigious" organisation not publicly announced this?
  • What are you going to do with the donated money?
  • Has it already been spent by your member "nubbi" ordering Uber Eats every stream?

I think it is very important for the community to be informed about these decisions, especially when a fundraiser has been made. This will help alleviate their concerns and make them not feel like you're running off with "free" money.

Cheers,
Byte

Maybe a bit off topic, but don't really care since your fundraiser is dead now.

Why is the community still allowing/turning a blind eye/promoting these websites? I understand that you are collecting your 10 dollar paycheck per week in virtual items, and that's very cool, but it's morally and (if you were paid in cash instead of virtual items) legally wrong. I have a few online and real life friends that have fallen victim to these websites while being underaged, and i'm not talking a few $, but several thousands. I have just checked now by logging into that website on my alt, and there is not even a pop up asking me if i'm 18+ before making an account, let alone an ID verification system that is required by my country's legal system to access such website. It is very obviously abusing a grey area to violate underaged and vulnerable individuals for profits. An argument could be made, that even professional athletes are being sponsored by sports betting companies and online casinos, while that's true, these websites and companies are following strict regulations and actually need a legal proof of age.

In the past few weeks there were displays of the type of people that are okay to be associated with such websites and have very little morals, and it doesn't surprise me that it was in negative aspect. What does surprise me is that there are multiple people that i consider to be smart and mature, playing on top teams, yet displaying and promoting these scamming websites, and pretending its okay.

And we as a community are giving them platform, why? Why are leagues okay with letting teams promote/name/link to these websites on their team page? Why are casting orgs putting these websites in big bold lettering on top of their casts?

I'm not even gonna go into the topic of why creating a fundraiser for the cheapest LAN in history of TF2, while having a predatory gambling sponsor for years, is a bad idea, and no one in their right mind would send you even more money. Your response on your stream when confronted is speaking for itself, often referring to this fundraiser as "my fundraiser" and phrasing it as you are printing money from the community donations because your job is being a "full time streamer"(2-3 streams for 2-3 hours per week) and not being able to get a real job because you are "going to university next year". 5 minutes later someone in chat asks what is your phone, and you say Iphone 15 Pro Max (1200$+).

I feel bad for a few of my friends that are now team-less for LAN and hopefully you can still come and enjoy the weekend without competing. And to those who are seeing themselves when reading my wall of text, please self-reflect and do better.

Just a finishing note, a food for thought as you may: A member of team that was/is promoting this website was underaged at the time of the start of this "sponsorship", and considering i don't know the age of every member of every team under this "org", there are probably many more.

Adysky brings up a great point on gambling websites. I actually think this topic deserves its own thread. I checked the TF2Easy site and I saw numerous red flags:

  • Missing contact and legal information. There is no information on who is running or operating the site, or what country the site is based in. The only contact information I could find was an the e-mail admin@tf2easy.com in the TOS. Who is really behind this site? Are they hiding behind anonymity to escape legal action?
  • Potentially targeting children. Only in the TOS, which is linked in the bottom of the webpage is it stated that users have to be 18 years or older to use the site. The user does not have to confirm that they agree with the TOS when they register, nor to they have to provide any kind of evidence that they are actually 18+.
  • Aggressive advertising. According to their about page, they take 10% commission normally, but only 8% for users who advertise the site with their Steam name. These are very high commission rates and they use a very unethical method for advertising the website.

Casting orgs and leagues should not give 18+ sites any kind of promotion, especially not sites that are as questionable as TF2easy. There are many minors in the competitive TF2 scene that could be influenced by top teams promoting gambling sites and start to gamble themselves. Since there isn't an age verification system on TF2Easy, this is even bigger of a problem.

ondkajaAdysky brings up a great point on gambling websites. I actually think this topic deserves its own thread. I checked the TF2**sy site and I saw numerous red flags:

I think you bring up a lot of points with which people share the sentiment, and have been circling round for some time but nobody has really gone and publicly said something about it. Considering Yak has almost 150 upfrags on his first comment, it demonstrates shared opinions, but it doesn't prevent the sponsorships and promotions.

Even with regulated gambling industries such as sports betting, the prevalence of addiction and damage resultant from them is ever increasing. Not just every day folk, but for example footballers being almost suffocated by gambling advertisement end up putting their entire livelihood and short lived careers on the line and partake in sports betting (See Ivan Toney and Sandro Tonali for topical examples). I'm not trying to offer sympathy to the footballers, I'm just pointing out the damage gambling can cause at every level of involvement with the sport.

While it's not really measurable to see the influence of TF2**sy sponsorships and the increase in traffic for the site, It would be ignorant to assume it's negligible. I think it's quite indicative of some players attitudes where they are willing to sell out on their ethical principles for what is essentially UK minimum wage over the time period of an official match (Cannot confirm exact payment per match but this is a rough equivalent of what I have heard).

At the risk of downfrags it's worth also questioning, might these players also be a victim to an extent? Where gambling advertising is so prevalent, have they even considered the implications of accepting sponsorship, or would it simply be negligence for them to not have done so? As Adysky mentioned, one of the team members was a minor when receiving sponsorship, which demonstrates the predatory behaviour of these sites towards influencing anybody and everybody they can.

I've personally seen people lose 100s on tf2/csgo gambling sites, and 1000s on sports betting. They know it's an addiction, and it's damaging, but they can't stop themselves. Promotion of gambling sites is a cancer on our a community.

I recommend reading through the site's TOS. I don't know enough about gambling laws, but parts of it read shady and it is riddled with grammatical errors. https://www.tf2easy.com/tos

Some highlights:

tf2easyBy participating in TF2EASY.com you agree that you are not a resident of the United Kingdom, United States, France, Denmark, Belgium or Netherlands.

Skin - a virtual game attribute of a multiplayer game Team Fortress 2. Skins are owned by Valve Corporation (US) and have no “real world” value and are not exchangeable for “real world” money.

I can also faintly remember that tf2easy used uberchain's art at some point without crediting her or asking her for permission. I cannot use archive.org atm to check for an old version of the site, but I was able to find these after some digging:
