Rockopeople still wanna cut out new players

i have yet to see an example of this happening and i've heard this argument for the past 7 years

edit: on the real tho. the mute button exists, and nobody is forcing you to be friends with these "toxic people". this community is the same as any other community, both online and IRL.

RockoI'm in a position now where Im trynna find new friends in tf2 comp cause everybody I did know is gone and I hate seeing people turn down the hobby because of a toxic few.

if you're brand brand new, i recommend going to newbie.tf for pugs for beginner competitive players.
if you already have some experience, just go lft for a level you feel comfortable playing and be honest with the people you're trying out for that you're in it to make friends and have fun. remember that your tryout for their team is also their tryout for your services on the team. don't feel pressured to join a team just because you feel like its your only option at potentially making friends

i wasnt trying to be snarky with my previous post, btw. good luck

Somehow I don't think this is a shitpost but it really reads like one.

ur talking about toxicity putting off new people and then you cite pedophiles that got outed and some banned players. are you just repeating some cliche about toxicity? there's no large scale toxicity from the comp tf2 community pushing out new players... there's a few circle jerks of toxic people but that generally doesn't overflow into pugs or anything else as far as i'm aware.

What prompted you to even write this if you can only cite those four people or was it just something you made up in your head

honestly just dumpster this

While what youre describing is optimal societal goals or whatever, its also what happens whenever you try to do anything competitively. political horse shoe and all that but for personalities. competition brings out the extremes in people, no matter where you go.

dont bother bouncing around or playing if you feel unsatisfied with the experience, pugging in-houses with cool dudes and waiting for a spot to open up is just as viable and no ones going to fault you for not hounding every chance you get to play.

Honestly just quoted the ones I know are banned because I'm not trynna bring harassment down on people doorsteps.

Grape seems like a really nice person from the small bit i know about them but this thread was honestly brought up because of what I've been going through for a while. If you look at my rgl page you'll see how I've just been skipped from team to team, most recently was Rock Fortress 2 in which they livestreamed and made a mockery of me in front of people for no reason. It makes people want to quit. I just wish that everybody would take this all more seriously you know? I feel like people downplay it and go "oh well its what happens when you're online", but TF2 is just kinda ridiculous.

I was on that team with you. I don't know what you're talking about with regards to "making a mockery of you". You were cut after the end of the season because we didn't think you were performing well enough and we were moving up a div. I think other people have streamed occasionally, but afaik the only person who streamed consistently was our engi, and I don't think he'd ever intentionally mock someone, especially a teammate, on stream. If someone was mocking you, I don't know why you wouldn't let us know so we could do something about it

RockoEvery competitive video game has toxicity.

TF2's seems to be specifically bad.

I've been playing tf2 since 2013 which i understand is a late entry compared to others. I'm not some famous competitive player, youtuber, streamer, whatever, but I do love this game.
It's been difficult to get into competitive and I know for a fact that many of my friends alongside people who used to play comp with me just dont want to touch the game anymore. Which just leaves me with so many questions.

If you're playing with toxic people, why? Isn't it better to try and grow as a player around other people who make you feel welcome and compliment your growth? If you're a toxic player, why? Does it make you feel good to belittle rando's online cause your life sucks irl?

Obviously this is addressing players that go beyond your usual smack talk in games, this is about harassment and true toxicity.

We are all part of an extremely niche community, if you decide to be a toxic person what you are telling everybody around you is "I want this game to die and I'm so obsessed I'm pumping in thousands of hours because I'm a no-life."

Can people please try to cut toxic people from their teams or discord servers. Me and all of my friends actively avoid toxic people and its working out pretty good for us but if you dont have access to teams or discord servers that cull awful people (or you are new to competitive and wanna try it out for the first time) it is extremely easy to run into rude people and instantly get turned off.

Anyways you can disagree with this all you want but idk felt like making a thread and hearing if other people in the community have experienced what I have.

Take care out there in this pandemic. Love you all!

Im extremely toxic. Im toxic if you arent putting in the same effort Im putting into a game. I know when to not cross the line at times but, at the same time you can just fucking turn off your monitor. I don't let toxicity affect me if I can most toxicity comes from shitters that are in an extremely low div.
