sacsetsul the kind of german who'd execute villagers for being partisans/franc-tireurs after a friendly-fire incident. Have you considered antlers might just be clumsy and dumb about it and rgl could show here that it does care a bit for people that put the work in for the community, fucking up. i totally agree with bob marley here

I'm sorry, are you really trying to tell me RGL should make an exception because antlers is too "clumsy and dumb"?
Seriously?
Do you really think that should be a thing?
"Hey, I'm too dumb to follow the rules, can I please just ignore them?"
"Sure, you're a caster, anything for you!"

I feel like you’re misunderstanding the situation. Its really more like
“my config I use for unpaid volunteer work fucked my real playing config up and I don’t have the demo.”
“sorry bucko you can try to play again 2022”
have some sympathy, literally is a volunteer worker who is the most obvious Not cheater. Who cares if it’d be his 3rd warning bro literally who cares, he paid money to play, he spends time to give the league he’s in more FREE exposure and labor, and then gets shafted for doing so.

like u guys need to have some real sticks up ur ass to be like, ya that kid should NOT be allowed to play the league he paid to play in and works for because he is DUMB and FORGETFUL and they’re RULES FOR A REASON. like ya ya double standards whatever, he’s a volunteer worker for the league who banned him, and truthfully is one of the last people I’d expect to be walling or something

There's really not many ways how you can interpret

Failure to Submit Demos

1st Offense: Warning
2nd Offense: 2-Weeks
3rd Offense: 3-Months
4th+ Offense: 1-Year

Not applying a rule because you like the guy and think it shouldn't apply to him is not interpreting a rule.
It's making an exception.

Like, I can see it when someone crashed and only got half a demo. There was an attempt.
But there is no demo at all. You can't interpret your way out of that.

#93
He's literally the only caster I know of with this problem.
He got banned for two weeks a result.
He knew about the problem.
He still did not fix the problem.
He got banned again.

Yes, he paid money to play in the league. So did everyone else. Does that make them exempt from the rules?
And do you really want to go down the path where everyone who volunteers for RGL gets to ignore the rules? Do you really want moderators to ignore or bend the rules for their friends? I feel like there've been threads about this before.

SetsulBob_MarleyI feel like this isn't true though lol? People have definitely been asking RGL admins to use discretion in their decisions...If admin discretion comes down to "please use admin discretion to not ban me even though I clearly broke a rule, think of the community" then it doesn't work.

The American legal system has had hundreds of years to iron out kinks, and it still sucks. The rgl ruleset literally cannot be perfect and should be flexible and responsive to weird situations. :-/ (and imo should generally be less harsh with bans...)

setsulYou're arguing for different rules for different people again. It is fundamentally unjust to have different punishments for the same infraction, just because someone accused you of cheating with no proof.

No, I am actually not. I am offering one idea I had that tries to make the ban length better match the severity. Missing a random request and missing a direct request are definitely very different. Messiah already confirmed that the "random" requests aren't really used for anything. It's just a mechanism to get people to record their demos so they have them for when they actually are requested.
If someone is cheating, the random requests don't help directly. They would still be asked directly for demos no matter what. So the ruleset I spent three seconds typing on the toilet and obviously has flaws still does a better job of not harming very innocent players who no one accuses of cheating. Cheaters would still get punished.

setsulAnd he did get banned for two weeks. It did not scare him into recording demos. So what do you suggest should happen after that? A longer ban? Guess what, that's exactly what happened. A two week ban again? It didn't work the first time, why should it work now? No ban at all, just give up because surely he's not cheating if he's that bad?
None of those are solutions.

I intentionally avoided trying to offer up a fully thought out solution, but there are definitely better ways to handle this :-/

I genuinely think just (long) bans should be very rare... Like basically only for confirmed hackers. I literally don't think anyone should be banned for a season for missing three random demos over the course of several years (specifically requested demos, probably yes). If this came up like six years ago when there was a more lively player base, I would probably have a different opinion...

This community is already in an insanely fragile state, removing players and potentially killing teams is not the way to go. Like I literally quit tf2 because I played a pub for five minutes during the pyro update :-/ Big bans for non-cheaters are even more devastating... (you can say "oOh We dOn'T knoW He wAS cHeaTing because he didn't submit a demo no one would look at because no one in their right mind would ever accuse him of cheating," but like literally who gives a shit. Again, if he had submitted this demo and he was cheating in it, he would probably still get to play :-/)
like I'm sorry but I literally cannot understand your take at all haha.

First of all, "I don't like this rule/think it's unfair/whatever so it shouldn't be applied" is not what admin discretion means.
The rule is "don't upload demos multiple times, get banned."
It's not "... unless we really like the excuse you came up with."
You can argue all you want that you think the specifics of the rules (number of infraction/ban lengths) should be different, but it 100% applies here. It applied to everyone else, so it also applies to antlers. There is no bonus for coming up with the most plausible, the most tearjerking, or the most entertaining excuse.
You can not go down the rabbit hole of "oh, he's probably trustworthy so we'll just believe him." The moment cheating-related decisions become a matter of just trusting people it all goes to shit. Or ban lengths being based on how popular someone is.

Secondly, the goal of the rule is to have all players record demos in all matches. Not occasionally. Always. Ignoring it until a player has missed an entire season's worth of requested demos, then banning for a different length depending on how likely you think it is that he cheats is a complete shitshow.

Thirdly, not enough demos being watched and not enough cheaters being banned is no excuse to stop recording and requesting demos. Yeah sure, if cheaters upload demos and still don't get banned that's bad. But if they don't upload demos (whether because they aren't requested anymore, or because there's rarely any penalties or none that really matter) and don't get banned isn't any better. It is simply more convenient for those who can't be arsed to record demos.

Last but not least:

Bob_MarleyLike I literally quit tf2 because I played a pub for five minutes during the pyro update :-/

That's very sad, but I don't really care. It's completely irrelevant.

This thread is telling me that if Antlers just grabbed one of his teammates demos, renamed it, and submitted it to RGL, he would still be playing right now.

LOL just cheat every other week then. the increasing ban length is there for a reason

Look, I like the we-hate-RGL-threads as much as the next guy, but this one makes little sense.

We are all accountable for our actions - whether IRL or online. RGL has made it explicitly clear that they will, and have, banned people for failure-to-submit demo infractions. Additionally, RGL has made it explicitly clear that they ask for demos from roughly every match that is played within RGL. If you guys want to argue about the use (or non-use) of these demos from an AC perspective, you can, but it is not a new thing that RGL has implemented. They have been requesting demos and enforcing the suspensions surrounding not being able to provide them for several months now. It is pretty likely that RGL circles back to players who failed to provide demos in the past, at least based on the frequency with which players who already have had warnings about demos get their demos requested.

Antlers knew about this rule and RGL's willingness to enforce it, and had every opportunity to be accountable and ensure the same mistakes he made before do not happen again.

I have sympathy for any player who gets banned from the game they love, but I still don't understand why people are upset. RGL has been requesting demos for months, and has never (at least to my knowledge) made exceptions under any circumstances. RGL is not at fault for following their own rules. Be accountable. Be responsible.

ur right teaching empathy over forum posts probably isn’t possible. I think the kid should get to play the game : D
and before someone calls me a dumbass for picking favorites or whatever, I do not even know this person! I only know they do fucking camera work for free, and that was their reasoning for it not working! idk why “the integrity” of RGLs rules would be ruined by giving the guy another warning

So you want some players to get preferential treatment over others because they support the league in some way etc.? That's a slippery slope and you know it. "Hey, that guy always casts some of our matches, let's overlook this demo infraction; hey, this guy is a 6s admin, let's just forget about them harassing others multiple times; hey, this guy donated $100 last week, let's overlook the time he used the Spy decloak script in the official." etc. you get what I mean.
This just seems like someone who has more backing in the community/is more "popular" got banned and you don't agree with it, I doubt this thread would exist otherwise and you couldn't care less about the actual rule itself. Admins shouldn't be biased in their decisions, don't be biased yourself.

Theyre not "wildly different scenarios," exactly the opposite, they're consistently enforcing their own rules that are the fucking basis for their anticheat system after giving multiple warnings. No joke, you people either really can't read or are insane. Maybe "have some empathy" with the admins who will get a bunch of shit when they have to enforce this rule again in the future.

I have never ever ever ever heard of casters or producers getting special treatment and being allowed to repeatedly break rules before now, it boggles my mind that you think they should be.

He is a player that uses multiple configs for his game. Reason being he does volunteer work for the league he's in. Said thing has fucked with his P-Rec before, low and behold, he did not solve the issue and is now in hot water. IF I'M ANTLERS, a roamer player whose definitely not known for being a sketchy player, I probably wouldn't be so stressed that I'm gonna get random demo called for the FOURTH TIME. I understand WHY they requested if he failed the other ones, but I imagine he figured they wouldn't pick on him given his reputation.

if you can't agree thats a "wildly different scenario" than say, when mxr or fenomeno or elijah got spam reported, YOU are the insane person brother.

no one would stick there neck out for someone they didn't feel is innocent. I just feel bad bcus clearly if you volunteer to cast AND are playing on a team, TF2 is a big hobby of yours. And I'm of the opinion they could give this guy *ANOTHER warning,

plus btw next time some elijah/feno esq person doesnt record a demo and they ban them, EVERYONE WILL REJOICE BCUS THEYRE ACTUALLY CHEATING AND NOT BREAKING A RULE LMFAO

also I'm done writing essays, I'm sure if antlers writes an appeal he can get unbanned himself no?

Don't complain about what happens when you break the rules unless its inconsistent with other instances, you can complain about the rule being a terrible rule, one that takes an excessive amount of effort for a marginal or nonexistent benefit for the league. I broke the rules and got the due punishment cant complain about that, I can contemplate if the rule I was punished over provides the league benefit that outweighs the effort of enforcing it or complying with it.

The only time in recent history where going monke mode genuinely caused change was metal footsteps, the reason why is because the rule was
1: neigh unenforceable, unless someone was dumb enough to stream with it .
2: it was unreasonable in comparison to other punishments.
3: Showed in the best way possible the undue burden placed upon the playerbase to ensure they didnt have it installed, shoutouts to you exa :).
Too much effort for almost no benefit.

(btw I am not privy to the actual reasons the metal footsteps stuff was changed this is just my assumption after that whole incident)

I am still genuinely undecided on if demo checks are actually good, cause rgl probably have access to information we don't, which is probably why the rule persists, although it does suck when someone like daf gets banned over a demo
for a warning they got almost over a year ago.

If you're gonna complain about a rule make a genuine argument and reinforce the argument, saying look at this great person who broke this rule and got punished for breaking the rule is just about the dumbest thing I've ever seen. I understand the argument of discouraging player retention with stricter rulesets I myself am worried about that.

Prove the rule is either, unenforceable, inconsistent, or burdensome to comply with. While also not giving the league any tangible benefit. RGL bad, but actually demonstrate to them why they're bad so they stop it.

Prove the rule is either, unenforceable, inconsistent, or burdensome to comply with. While also not giving the league any tangible benefit. RGL bad, but actually demonstrate to them why they're bad so they stop it.

I have actually done production in the past. It does not "fuck your config." He just repeatedly failed to put his prec folder back in at the same time he put his normal config back in.

He was not banned for cheating. He was banned for not recording demos. RGL is being completely consistent in enforcing that rule.

Your assertion that anyone would stop worrying about being asked for demos FOR THE FOURTH TIME is ABSOLUTELY INSANE.

Yes, i do actively wish that a player nobody suspects of cheating that puts in extra work for the community on his own time for free, gets special treatment in the form of admin discretion regarding his ruling. Sorry if thats keeping us from getting our 100,000$ major.

What the fuck are you talking about? It has nothing to do with esports, it just has to do with a league enforcing its rules. By your logic rgl admins themselves should never have to deal with criticism because oh gosh, they put in so much work! Like either they enforce rules evenly or they get accused of favoring their friends instead. Idiots like you just want rgl in a no win situation.

Congratulations on figuring out the entire point of a competitive gaming league. Just play inhouses and stop worrying about this if thats your attitude
