i have a pretty bad headset+mic combo atm and am getting a pair of monitor headphones for christmas for mixing my music and stuff, but that also means that i won't have a mic anymore, so i was wondering what y'all thought of the blue snowball and how good it is quality wise for the price

I've had my snowball for like 2 years now and never had a problem
It picks up a lot of background noise though, and if you have a louder keyboard it'll pick it up

it's good enough to sound brilliant in a gaming context where most voice comms sound like they're filtered through an expired dishwasher. nice that it's easy to set up and doesn't get in the way. i wouldn't use it for music though unless the cheesy lo-fi bedroom pop sound suits you.
(e: probably redundant as i doubt you're recording music on your current headset mic lol)

as appealing as an interface to my audio engineer side, i don't think i have the extra space needed, it's unbelievable how small my desk is

wolsneThis if you're on a budget

is there that big of a difference between the two? the mic is a gift so if i can save the person as much money as possible i'd like to do that

? the scissor arms clip to like a 10cm x 5cm space anywhere on your desk (you dont even have to use the top of your desk, you can put it on sideways too) and you can full 360° the arms and tilt back/forward or extend/retract in any direction, as long as you're within 90cm of your table you should be fine

https://www.amazon.com/Adjustable-Microphone-Suspension-Broadcasting-Voice-Over/dp/B00DY1F2CS

this completely negates any noise coming from mouse/keyboard, if you put a $5 popfilter on and mess around with an open threshold on a mic filter like voice meeter it cancels out any unwanted background noise too

i used to use a snowball and the sound quality was solid but the thing is it picks up a ton of keyboard and background noise so idk if its best for gaming, i have a yeti now on a boom so its closer to my face but if youre on a budget and shit i feel like a zalman clip on mic is the best value u can get just cause its so cheap and isnt gonna pick up ear rapingly loud noise from a metal water bottle or u banging on ur desk or wtfever lmao

the blue snowball is pretty decent but i find that having to move it around is pretty annoying, it picks up a lot of keyboard vibration on the standard feet too, also you're hardly ever gonna carry that shit to LAN
definitely recommend Zalman's ZM-Mic1 or Antlion's ModMic, they're pretty decent performers, y'aint gonna need much more for videogames

I dunno I got the zalman and it was trash garbage. I think that was a problem with my pc/motherboard/audio driver rather than the mic though. I use the blue snowball now and it seems okay. I sit it on a kitchen towel for a bit of dampening.

if you have silent background snowball is probably fine. it will do it's best to pick up as much background noise as possible.

Personally unless you plan on playing a instrument for recording or recording you talking to multiple other people around a table DO NOT GET A CONDENSER MIC. Every mouse click and every keypress WILL be caught by a condenser mic.

Dynamic Mics are best for recording voice of someone speaking (or singing) directly into it, especially in rooms without really good sound isolation.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B004QJOZS4/

these 2 mics get recommended pretty frequently I personally own the AT2005, get a pop filter and most of the background noises go away and even without the pop filter it still picks up WAY less background noise than a condenser mic.

That being said though if a dynamic mic is placed next to a mechanical keyboard even with sound dampening rubber O-rings it'll still pickup most keypresses even if facing away, it'll be significantly less noticeable though than a condenser.
