tl:dr Lazypurple talks about the recent fires in California (a state in the US), then talks about pyro, saying that it is in a "really buggy state". He then talks about the whole "pyro can do a lot of damage without much aim" thing and how it can be frustrating to players including himself, but doesn't call it overpowered saying that pyro doesn't have much of a defined role that it excels in and his opinion of how the flamethrower isn't powerful enough to call it overpowered.

Thoughts?

Does anyone have the video showing the new fire damage mechanics? The one with a bunch of heavies in a row all dying at once. I can't for the life of me find it.

Basically, only one fire particle needs to be landing at all times to do full dps. You're literally hurting your damage by not flailing a little bit.

I was just messing around in pubs so my opinion is obviously very skewed, but to me it felt like if you were within range of the pyro (like if he and you both turned the same corner or you fell from high ground onto him), you are almost guaranteed to die to him if he doesn't already have low health. His airblast that just slides you along the floor in a linear direction definitely didn't quell my frustration.

Idk call me stupid, bad, whatever-- he is more annoying than he was previously because it just feels like he does even more damage than ever before. I would prefer the previous iteration of pyro over the current one any day of the week.

It's so very bizarre for me to see how Pyro has evolved over the years. W+M1 used to be such a big problem and Valve had listened to the community by making the class more diverse with the addition of airblast minicrits, reducing the metal needed for airblast, adding the flaregun and introducing the Axtinguisher for a puff-n-sting approach. Pyros that could airblast were praised as a breath of fresh air over the brainless and frustrating W+M1; Puff-n-Sting was a sign of a pyro that used more of the class' tools. The Degreaser and its rapid switch speed was added precisely as incentive for pyros to switch between different weapons mid combat.

Yet somehow somewhere down the line this attitude changed. The Axtinguisher got nerfed and is now utterly useless. Airblast had its mechanics tampered with. Flames got tremendously buffed. My question is: why? Why did the class degenerate to a more offensive version of what it used to be? Why the regression of mentality? Its unlocks weren't OP. Airblast wasn't OP. Why was this necessary?

wow i had no idea lazypurple was active on youtube again, or that he became a top 500 overwatch player?? great memories in ugc with the dude

also pyro is so fucked up, a short range class with easy, high damage and next to no mobility? i wish she had better mobility, lower base damage, and a higher skill floor.

FuxxAirblast wasn't OP. Why was this necessary?

Puff n Sting was obnoxious as hell to play against. Being juggled into a corner and then molested with reserve shooter minicrits was not fun to play against at all. Neither is this new w+m1 buff. Pyro in general just seems like a mistake.

You could always easily avoid puff-n-sting with a decent enough awareness of your surroundings and of positioning. The reserve shooter minicrits has always been OP though, yeah.

Still the point is that the class should have a more general and diverse viable skillset, which it did until the new meta has returned to what it was 10 years ago: wave your flamethrower around like a spastic and get kills.

edit: I am also not a fan of nerfing unlocks to the point where they become so dogshit that picking them is a mistake 100% of the time.

well I enjoy puff and sting with current airblast. flare shots aren't very consistent but they feel rewarding, it's a bit like hitting a pipe. The only problem is that the reward is very small compared to the flamethrower consistent and unmissable dps. Fix flamethrower aim and maybe tone down dps a bit and pyro will be fine

No shit. At the very least I'd like to know the thought process behind their asinine decisions but their communication abilities have historically been worse than a mute amputee.

It's dumb how valve managed to make pyro even more stupid of a class after +400 days of possible (better) feedback taking, playtesting and detailed work with balance. While their ideas for Pyro were decent on paper, they really should have taken more time with him + more playtesting

Worse thing is that whem you try to explain how stupid pyro is, people will be like Pyro is now more dangerous and skilled, you just need to get good and not go near Pyros!!! and then procees to go whine how "OP" soldier is and how Demo needs more nerfs :/

On the plus side, if they manage to fix the current flames completely (and maybe nerf Dragon's Fury little bit) pyro might finally be a decent class.

remove air blasting on all weapons except for like the degreaser or something

or

make air blasting do normal/less damage

thoughts? I legit think pyro wouldn't be annoying to face if you remove his ability to deny rockets and pipes at any given time

to me the problems with pyro are the flames hit reg which is too permissive and the powerjack.

Good videos on how current flames work have been made already and describe the problem.
Powerjack is OP in the sense that it's MUCH better than any other melee choices since the axtinguisher nerf.

I'm cool with the rest of the class though.
New airblast feels less bugged, secondaries that can destroy stickies are nice, and it seems normal to me that the pyro deals good damage up close, it's supposed to be his thing after all. Just get rid of the parkinson pyro style and it'll be fine.
