ToTH will always be one of my favourite events every year to watch and enjoy, and you can always have other games in it (I remember the Jackbox Party Pack in 2016 being very entertaining) but I am not a big fan of the fact that a majority of slots are taken by other games this year (e.g. the 3 Hour PUBG Slot, which is probably my least favourite addition). This is an event that I have felt has been the heart and soul of the TF2 community every single year it has been on but I think this year it may be straying a bit too far away from being a true TF2 event. Just my opinion, take it as you will.
P.S: Dota Fortress?

I understand that including different games (ow) leads to more money raised, which is ultimately the point of the event but I feel like it detracts from the community aspect of toth. I don't think that overwatch or pubg players will be as interested or enthused to watch compared to tf2 players because toth is very closely linked to tf2's community. No other game can boast a charity event of toth's size, especially one that's held annually.

One of the main reasons that I tuned in to toth was the tf2 specific events (jump, surf, mge, dota fortress, pubs) but I fear these events are being given less focus to appeal to a wider audience (lack of dota fortress) which makes me less excited to watch. I think having other games for a short time is really entertaining but having other games on for too long will detract from the event.

To be honest, the only thing that i can imagine happening is the viewer count going down (and chat becoming 10 times more toxic), i don't think ow players would be very interested in what is (was?) supposed to be a tf2-centric event.

i'm sure there is a lot of potential for an increase in viewers if they get former tf2 players who are now famous OW players as guests and those advertise the event on their twitter etc.

I'm a bit confused, surely the community pubs is what gives the most views anyway? why only have one community pub section for the entire event? Especially since there's 3 hour pubg and ow for some reason to replace it.

Azazel-Are my virtual pixel donations tax deductible

Technically yes.

-edit-
Would like to throw in my 2 cents here and say the addition of OW is a good move imo, while PUBG not so much. OW is at least a similar audience as tf2 and you have to play alongside as a teammate to people you don't know at all. PUBG doesn't really have that and I don't think a game which doesn't foster a community aspect to it would be a good choice. Honestly I think BF1 would be a better choice over PUBG despite PUBG being the hot new thing right now.

I'm guess I'm disappointed that day 2 and 3 feature only jumping, but there's still a decent amount of TF2 this year. I am really concerned about 8 hours of PUBG though. It's so hard to make that game hype. It's fun to play and all, but 95% of the time, it's incredibly boring to watch. You've really got to hope that everyone watching both plays PUBG and is invested in trying to get better at it. "o hey, he picked up a lvl 2 vest, o boy, they have to spend 2 minutes holding shift across an open field, o gosh." I think asking ANYONE to keep people entertained for 7.5 hours solely off the force of personality is asking way too much. Hopefully we can trade out some of that pubg for pubs.

It seems fairly reasonable for OW to be in the show, the way I see it. Imagine the number of viewers they could pull for Harbleu vs Seagull DotaWatch. Whatever the gang has to do to help kids in need, they should do. Besides, if we've learned anything from past Toth events, it's that it's the people who matter, not the game. PUBG does confuse me a little, but I'm sure they have a good reason for it.

Yeah, the connection to overwatch is a lot more solid. its not like ex-tf2 players are now top plunkbatters its just a popular stream game

Yeah, if that Overwatch time can be used to do some sort of TF2 alumni pickup match with captains that would be super hype and could actually bring in a ton of viewers. If the at least 2 of the 3 PUBG sessions were TF2 pubs instead, I would be much happier. The TF2 community is where this thing started, and it's a bummer if so little of the event is spent actually interacting with the community in a pub setting.

especially since a majority of the tf2 is on friday when most people are working. I'll be donating as usual but I'll probably only be tuning in for surfing, jumping, keep talking and bridge crew which makes me a little sad.

This is wrong. They aren't tax deductible. If they were, you'd also be expected to report all your items on your taxes.

If I sold an unusual for $1000 (or any amount) wouldn't the IRS expect me to claim that as income?

For any side money of that nature, you'd have to make over $10,000 dollars. So practically, no. Even if you sold a burning TC, I'm pretty sure virtual items don't fall under the parameters of the IRS.

I don't know, all of the literature I can find mentions no such threshold, and is simply a matter of if you had a net positive (made more money than you put in). Of course, minimum filing limits apply but most of us meet that through other means anyways.

In other news, this is a pretty entertaining blurb from the IRS:

IRS.govOnline games create computer-generated settings for multiple users to interact as characters called avatars. These avatars frequently exchange goods and services in both the real and virtual worlds. Cyber-economic activities in the online world may have tax consequences that real world avatar counterparts need to consider.

Are people actually complaining about adding an additional game to help raise money for children with cancer? Is this like, actually the problem or am I just missing something?

If I understand them correctly, there are parts of TOTH that people loved that got removed because of an additional game. They're fine with the additional game, they just don't like that their favorite parts got removed, like DOTA Fortress
