With the amount of mobile games making their way onto ESL and l4d2 getting on there once more it wouldn't hurt to have a second attempt at cracking the platform...

We're supporting play on ESEA, UGC, TFCL, Faceit, PugChamp, FreakPugs, and TF2Center, and that's just in NA. We've gone through all sorts of whitelist fuckery, posted a thousand pyro update memes, picked up Ascent, Faint, Lunatik, Velocity, and Fable... not to mention 7 actually managing to not win a season. Outside of the expected bullshit from Valve, the only real bad shit I can think of is the lack of top teams at i61. This has been a busy year for TF2. No doubt we can step it up for ESA as well.

Real questions here aside from blind optimism people show in something like this.

Situation with ESL AC Client? I haven't paid any attention to ESL since it left TF2 the first time, but a lot of people had issue with the ESL Wire Client, which contributed to the less than impressive signups (though would probably be a realistic goal for them by todays standards). At the time I was a Div 5 player, so there was no incentive to play ESL, experience these issues when ETF2L was offering the same but with less problems. When the only incentive you are told is "will benefit the TF2 scene at the top" and you're not at the top and can't see yourself being at the top for many years, why try?

And people saying "lets try not to kill this one", what is being offered by these semi-linked e-sports organisations are versions of things we provide already as a community. You either need them to designed a sort of service (for our TF2 fix) that people are interested in and enjoy better than what is already offered or has a major incentive to get the limited amount of active competitive TF2 players into signing up consistently. You can also organise a combined community effort into promoting and sustaining promotion of the league - ESEA, ETF2L, UGC all have a presence in this community but something like this would require addition effort and ideas to provide incentive. Furthermore admins they select have to be dedicated and have good knowledge and understanding of how the scene operates and able to do their jobs effectively.

At the current state of the scene and what I know historically, I can't see this getting off the ground and working beyond a couple of seasons unless there is a more coefficient and combined community effort than people posting comments "really hope we don't fuck this up guys".

I'd be happy to play personally if the ESL Client is bearable, not too many issues with it otherwise.

ESL Play doesn't do PUGs, but they do ladders and cups.

So from what I can tell, there are three tiers of ESL Play cups: Open, Major, and Pro.

Open is mainly for community-run cups and small events with pretty much no prizes

Major indicates that there is a reward of some kind, whether that be a seed into a major tournament or just straight cash

Pro indicates pretty much what you think it does

-extine "Pyro update should bring new life into this game, and there is definitely still an appetite for a competitive format..."
but lets look at the other side what if doesnt, do we still try and have tf2 put into esl?

Sorry to piss in everyone's cheerios but this will not work. We can barely keep Faceit alive due to lack of players and interest. Why would ESL be any different?

We should probably focus on fixing and using the current systems we have before looking for more.

I 100% agree that this scene can only support 1 ladder/cup league (if that), but imo ESL is the bigger name with more pull in esports so it might be better for the scene to put our support there. Worst case scenario it fails, ESL leaves, and were back where we are now.
