Stress Test #11 End of the Beta

"We've just turned on the 11th, and final, stress test. The competitive beta will be wrapping up in the coming days -- and we'll be running the stress test until then. So get in there!"

Honestly there are so many weapons that need to be rebalanced and other changes that need to be made. If this is the end and they're releasing it soon without a big update than this feels really underwhelming imo.

I'm eager to see what kind of balance changes they will make.

end of the beta? please correct me if i'm wrong since i haven't played it lately but nothing has really changed though.
abandoning is still a major issue that ruins matches
the rotation is questionable to say the least
the round/time limit isn't long enough (this is in my opinion though)
no serverside anticheat measures (untrusted/fakeangle bans, OW) like in csgo

I think we should wait until the "neato update" is released, alongside all the balance changes. Then we could definitely decide whats still wrong and what isn't. Going out of beta doesnt mean it wont be updated in the future.

really hoping the fixed graphics settings are opened up
some of the fixed settings are just pointless, it's not as if you gain some advantage over other players by using a config (other than fps, which is really valve's problem not the players' to fix)
i know they want tf2 to look more familiar to new viewers on streams, but is mat_phong 0 to mat_phong 1 gonna make that much difference?

This is what the competitive beta steam page would look like

WHAT THE DEVELOPERS HAVE TO SAY:Why Early Access Beta?
We are looking at things closely

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access Beta?
After going with it for a few months, we've decided it'll be over in a couple days

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access Beta version?
Neato

What is the current state of the Early Access Beta version?
Please refer to a b4nny video

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access Beta?

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?
ok

The beta was more destined to assess technical issues than anything else, so they probably have been working on the summer update independently of it. I imagine Valve will want to make the release of competitive into something big.

Whether it will be next week or not, who knows?

1. They've been working on a sub feature. Abandons will also be less of an issue as the game gets released as people who don't leave will have a much higher rank. That's not a perfect system as it makes the lower ranks awful for noobies but the mid level players won't be suffering from chronic leavers like they do now, at least after a week or two.

2. Kinda? Its basically ESEA + gorge + the koth egypt map right? Not amazing but there's been worse maps

3.

meHaving 20 minute games in TF2, a game that will likely have longer queues based on having 2 more players per game and a smaller community, means that no one player is locked out of the MM formula for long. After 20 minutes, no matter what, 12 players are now free to play again. This lets the MM formula more quickly randomize and sort players because they'll play more matches, and allows a smaller number of players to have constant fresh matches against different players. With 20 minute games, you'll see a higher percentage of players searching at any given time compared to a 50 minute cycle.

To simplify, the short game times make running an MM system much more efficient and easy, as you can quickly run player permutations to determine rank as well as prevent players from being "locked" out of the MM pool since they're stuck on round 3/5. This means a lot more of the players will be finishing games and entering the queue at any given time, making it easier to find matches even if we don't have all the players of CSGO. This is a really good middle ground and keeps MM from being drawn out or too serious.

4. idk what to tell you. valve's been putting in good work with AC lately, if it ain't enough it ain't enough but it seems like they're trying

Just means they're gonna be done with giving the players stress tests and focusing on user input. Doesn't mean that it's being updated and completely finished. Wait for the actual update for the final version of MM.

the301stspartanNo they have good fps because they can afford good computers with all that trading money

average pub player doesn't play the game with a config, so the locked variables that valve has won't affect their FPS

it literally only hurts "serious" pub players and the comp community

list of techical/gameplay (non-player based) issues i still have with it:

  • overly strict variable locking (even ignoring the forced graphics), zoom sens,fps_max, net_graph etc are all forced for no reason even when they arent in csgo
  • the stats system is dumb af and should work on kills or damage per minute instead of per game.
  • the spawn system is dumb af, why have a 10 second countdown THEN the doors unlock 5 seconds later. just makes it harder for meds to buff people if they even wanna. random spawns are way more influential in csgo and they're still in the game.
  • why the fuck are you stuck in spawn all warmup waiting for some guy's toaster to dredge up a copy of the map from some musty corner of his 20GB harddrive
  • random bugs that still exist: meds can heal in the 10sec countdown on all rounds except the first, round score is broken for the first round if you play consecutive games, scoreboard hides countdown overlay

this is supposed to remove the RNG from spawning closer or further from the door at the start of the round, but i find it so awkward
