I'm just gonna say it.
I log on here every day, and it's the same thing. "tftv is dead." "Another week with no posts?" And I get it. We're all want more posts
But then... a shit post happens. A bunch of people show up. And what's the first thing they say? "kill yourself", "nobody asked", all while being toxic and e-bullying
We there aren't enough posters on the forums for content, but then we flame the posters who are just trying to have a nice time
So all the posters leave because the community feels like a cess pool where the only way to win is to not play. The ones who stay are all right back here, a month later, typing "Why is the forum post count dropping? This game is dying. We need more content to bring people in."
this is the beautiful ecosystem of misery. -booga ooga

We can save the community.
We can save the community.
Some of you guys are just, extremely, uncreative, unfunny, circle jerkers, you bash anyone that doesn’t stroke your own ego. And honestly, the worst thing about this site is the frag system and the nerd stars. It essentially can discourage people and at the same time, make others more submissive to the thoughts and ideas of red numbers and blue stars.
Only ones that bash me with this idea, are essentially narcissist's. I personally respect anyone that’s better then me at tf2, especially those better, with more experience, and even more specifically more newer players who are getting better at a faster rate because of how public it is to learn to play comp, frag videos, povs, live streams, the lans, etc.
At the end of the day, some people just flex with shit humor, with toxic personality’s. I don’t like the bullying. But of course it’s not like, really ever gunna end. What we can do is support good players in the community, especially new ones and help them get mentally stronger so they can ignore some of this shit.
IMO, I wish we would replace the frags and stars with avatars and signatures, maybe even banners for things. But it probably won’t happen.

i disagree that its completely the work of narcissists but without a doubt many people's only contributions to this forum are waiting for someone to say something dumb or set them up with a joke to farm upvotes, when those kinds of posts are really only worthwhile in an ecosystem where there's normal discussion
i think the discord-ification of the community is the main reason tftv isnt very alive since most gossip and discussion happens elsewhere but if people want to have a healthy public tf2 forum then they gotta stop complaining about it being bad and just swallow their pride and contribute

Downvoted or upvoted, this is the reality.
TFTV has always been circlejerky and ppl just blindly upvote/downvote based on who is posting, sure. The difference is that in 2015, lots of players were airing out drama and gossip here (or UGC or ETF2L forums), because discord literally wasn't a thing. And now all that same gossip happens behind closed doors.

It is pretty bad that whenever I log in and see a relatively new thread with a high post count I instantly assume that it's either 1. new LAN thread or 2. new pedo thread.
That being said while drama is funny I think the biggest loss is the lack of actually thoughtful discussion about the game. Granted I'm not going to lie and say that like 2014-2018 era tftv was a veritable Library of Alexandria or anything but I can use myself as a control and say that superficially my knowledge of 6's relative to my entrenchment in the community was much higher than it is today. Players of all skill levels used to talk about the game. Was the average open player dropping a knowledge bomb? Probably not, but at the very least I got to see opinions and discussions and it's a little bit surprising (disturbing, really) how much you can pick up just via osmosis.
Nowadays insightful posts still exist but they are few and far between which I find quite sad. They are also pretty decentralized (though to be fair most of the truth nukes in the past were buried within like 50 page long ESEA open happenings threads). An example would be loafe and botmode's post in the bagel thread.
loafe
because botmode wont clarify i will give my thoughts on the window idea
the window won't save combo scouts from eating spam. it will honestly make it worse for scouts because any lane aggression around the left or right of the nipple would be telegraphed by the window = makes it incredibly easy for a demo to trap himself off, entirely avoid the scout aggression, and deal the damage anyways
a scout being able to fight around the nipple without being spotted is kind of essential to make point fights actually winnable. if a demo could perfectly target a scout wherever he goes on the point by seeing him through the window, it would (imo) just turn bagel into another clearcut where edging the point as a combo scout is nigh impossible. fights would entirely rely on trades and winning the post OR actually winning house fights instead of just brawling in the houses to draw eyes / get damage
i think the house / point play on bagel is honestly perfect and the only issue with the map, as it stands, is how powerful the forward hold is
This type of 'micro strategy' (specifically talking about one specific class matchup on one specific map in one specific game state) is so difficult to find these days. The broad strokes of the game still exist, and so does theorycrafting (i.e. is this one unlock Literally Hitler?) but I seriously miss the type of nerd essay (meant in the most positive way possible) analysis of one snapshot, one frame if you will, of tf2.
Pains me to think about how much hidden knowledge is squirreled away in random team discords that are archived away or long inactive.
