Oh yeah, did some playing around after posting my initial benchmark and meant to post my results.

So, downloaded Masterconfig Medium, switched to full screen, and overclocked CPU (6600k running 1.4v @4.6GHz).

Results prior to modifications:

4812 frames 36.165 seconds 133.06 fps ( 7.52 ms/f) 25.979 fps variability

Checked RAM seating and speed, and installed masterconfig:

4812 frames 32.862 seconds 146.43 fps ( 6.83 ms/f) 31.118 fps variability

After settling on OC settings:

4812 frames 27.751 seconds 173.40 fps ( 5.77 ms/f) 25.152 fps variability

There is an obvious improvement, but should I be expecting more? Running the 5 min quick benchmark in Intel XTU before and after overclocking didn't demonstrate a marked improvement (677 to 684 pts). Obviously going down to the med-low config would provide more improvement, but I want to make sure I'm not underperforming first.

Proof that tf2 legit ONLY cares about single threaded performance:

Ryzen 7 5800x no OC
GTX 1660 2GB
16GB DDR4 2400
Mastercomfig medium low preset + chat disabled
only change was disabling amd cool n quiet or whatever in bios

benchmark1.dem
dxlevel 91:
2639 frames 8.801 seconds 299.87 fps ( 3.33 ms/f) 39.173 fps variability
dxlevel 81:
2639 frames 8.219 seconds 321.07 fps ( 3.11 ms/f) 45.262 fps variability

In-game 6s i constantly hit my fps_max 361 at all times I haven't seen it dip at all

tf2 doesn't use opengl at all on windows. -r_emulate_gl changes some settings, like slamming dxlevel between 90 and 92, disabling shader model 3.0, using a different image format for textures, disabling some optimizations for shaders, etc, but it's still using direct3d through and through

Anyone got their hands on a 12th gen Intel CPU? I'm curious about their tf2 benchmarks given their single core performance. I imagine even an i3 should run tf2 very well.

4812 frames 15.939 seconds 301.90 fps ( 3.31 ms/f) 51.681 fps variability

Considering some gaming laptops cant hit 300fps in this game, this is pretty impressive. Still CPU bound though, so the 6000U refresh probably wont help much. 5700G is probably very similar to this, probably a bit higher.

This is also with the Radeon Pro drivers, so not entirely sure how the gaming drivers would compare.

Ryzen 7 3800X
Gigabyte Aorus RX 580 8GB
2x8GB DDR4 cl16 @ 3600 MHz
Win10 LTSC 1809

Every preset has been ran 10 times to get the average framerate using the mastercomfig benchmark_test demo.
All benchmarks use mastercomfig low config (with the no-tutorial, no-soundscapes and no-pyroland addons), no-explosion script, modified surfaceproperties, AMD LodAdj set as high as possible with the Garm3n-QL hud. Fullscreen optimizations are disabled and the power plan settings in Windows are set to Ryzen High Performance.

The following launch options were used for all benchmarks (excluding the addition of -nod3d9ex and -high in the labeled ones or the 1440p windowed test):

-full -precachefontchars -nosteamcontroller -novid -nojoy -nohltv -noquicktime -particles 1

Link to all benchmarks.

1440p appears to be better than 1080p (even though it's not my native resolution and had to be ran in windowed mode). The 1440p test was ran using the SourceRes tool
