nowahwait did you get banned for not submitting a pug/scrim demo?

looks like there was a match he played in on the 7th so if he was asked for that and given a few days lol I guess.
the demo requests are so fucking annoying. I was asked for my demo every week for like 5 weeks in a row, can't blame antlers for eventually missing one.
I hope the anticheat team had fun with my 200-350 thousand tick demos because I'm on linux and too lazy to manually record.

There is a special option that automatically records demos. It's called ds_enable (aka Demo Support).

Hey, quick post to clarify a couple points here:
- ire was uninvolved in this (other than being the leader of antlers' team, who jemond contacted about the demo request). Ire was not involved in any way with the ban, which was entirely procedural.
- antlers did not record his demo for his Week 8A match. We will (obviously) not penalize people for not recording pug or scrim demos.

To illuminate why we took action here even though antlers' last failure was 16 months ago:

From Aad, our head AC admin:

At the end of the day, there's a few major points for why we enforce demo recording this way:
- We don't want to give any potential cheater or suspect any leeway - we did this in the past before hard demo requesting rules existed, and we have 1000000% missed out on some extremely good evidence. Anyone who has a hard stance on cheating should almost always make sure they also have a hard stance on demos. Otherwise in a game where VAC is straight up useless, having an AC team in any league would also be useless w/o ability to have pov demos when desperately needed.
- The community expects us to be consistent - I've been extremely consistent with making sure we apply demo failures correctly, and it should be expected at this point because it hasn't changed. We also are consistent with other cheating related topics of "cheating anywhere = cheating @ RGL, if VAC doesn't catch you cheating, doesn't mean we can't"
- We're going as far as developing a plugin to ensure no one has an excuse to accidentally not record by spitting out in chat anyone not recording when a game goes live - literally no other league has explored this option, even though pieces have been out there for at min 5yrs now.
- We're also being consistent with the other major TF2 leagues:
Ozfortress just says see ya for 4 games, no decay

https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/580467385119801367/864304880318283776/unknown.png

UGC similarly bans for first miss, and have no decay.

https://media.discordapp.net/attachments/580467385119801367/864304827014053918/unknown.png

ETF2L's ruleset has 0 decay for demo requests for many many years now without issue.

https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/580467385119801367/864304940980502548/unknown.png

tl;dr In the past, some of the cases we've had to let go due to missing demos pisses me off and no one has a reason to disable recording once the season has started.

If you are being penalized for not having demos in this day and age when you KNOW they've been requesting demos for seasons now it is nobody's fault but your own.

Thanks for the post boss, and I fully understand the intensity and importance behind enforcing recording demos.

While the penalties differ from league to league, in the case of the first offense only serving a warning, I still believe there should be some sort of decay (1 year or 3 seasons) as there was no time served on what could easily be an accident. Repeated offenses are self-explanatory. Again, I understand the approach, but I'd be pretty bummed to get a week ban because my prec freakishly broke for one random match and, uh oh, since it also happened like 5 seasons ago you gotta do the time!

DubThinkETF2L's ruleset has 0 decay for demo requests for many many years now without issue.

This got changed couple years ago, but I'm not sure why is it not mentioned in the rules.

https://etf2l.org/2019/05/26/sunday-night-bans-staff-changes-and-an-update-on-our-demo-infraction-policy/

Old-time players normally collect a number of demo infractions during their time playing on ETF2L, just because of how the system works and the long time they have been active. To stop these players from getting banned for stacking multiple year old infractions, we are changing our demo policy: Infractions that are 4 years and older will be removed from a player’s infraction list and will no longer affect possible future bans.

bruh antlers was on my team and we'd planned to use him for our last match. we were in the same mumble at the time of that match and had joked about antlers being banned and them being drawn against the RGL admins team in the billdozer cup.

As someone that has coordinated many shitposts in the exact mumble in question, I do feel bad for ire for catching flak for this. I was playing vlr with antlers when jemond started bugging him for demos.
I can vouch for Diego. He's an innocent man.

how do the logistics of demo bans actually work is it like they message u for demos and if u dont respond within 48 hours u get banned? curious how it actually went down like it can't have been that hard to just send over the demos but maybe there's something im not understanding

48 hours (although im sure some admins are more lenient than others), if you dont have it you get banned. the system itself makes sense to keep people honest and have evidence for AC investigations, but having a 16 month old ban count as the warning for this ban is dogshit stupid

What would be a good decay then? 1 year? every season? Giving too short of leniency allows cheaters to take a refresh and not risk not having to send demos more often.
