thinking about quitting

I've played 2 seasons of 6s thus far, and feel like I have a lot of potential with tf2.

however, recently some stuff has happened with the game, (mainly my team leader being toxic and making everyone want to leave the team), that has made me unhappy with tf2.

on top of that, my mathematics career has started so I'm rapidly losing free time.

for more experienced players, have you had this happen? is it some sort of phase or do you think that its time for me to move on. I'm on the fence right now but that might just be because the aforementioned team leader was telling me do do so, because I still enjoy playing.

lmk what you guys think, I would appreciate the advice.

to me it sounds like your team environment isn't very fun. maybe with another team you would enjoy yourself more.

that being said if you dont have time/ want to focus on school or whatever then dont play (or take a season off and see how you feel)

If you enjoy playing the game at a lower level of commitment then you can still balance that with other stuff, just don't expect to see rapid improvement.

Join a team that suits your goal for the game. I've played on teams that wanted to have fun and just play organized tf2. i've played on teams that wanted to improve and be the best, and many things in-between. Or if you're really sapped for time but still enjoy the game, look into being a ringer or just playing pugs/pugscrims.

If you do not play on a team where your goals aren’t aligned (have fun/win/get better) you will never evolve as a player and it won’t be fun

The real question is why are you making a thread and not deciding for yourself.

Yet I keep coming back, which also makes me happier.

It's a never ending cycle

Keep quitting at what you believe to be your at peak performance and then when you come back be disappointed in your ability to wield your gamer mouse (with led)

after deciding to not play this season, I've realized I was dependent on tf2 to be happy instead of a having it as a destresser, do shit that actually makes you happy in the long run, for me that's going to bed at 10.

Never say you're quitting but take breaks and try dipping your feet in other things, you never want to burn bridges and you can find or make time for just the bits you enjoy from whether its watching, mixing, playing pugs, officials only or playing with a casual team.

As for the team stuff, everyone has run in with people they dont agree with or enjoy playing with, i would just move on and look for another team or if you want complete control of your enjoyment/tf2 environment (and youre willing to put the work in) make your own team! Some of my favorite times from tf2 was from my own team despite it taking a little time and effort.

i haven't wrapped myself in comptf2 since 2015 but i still enjoy keeping up with the scene on forums, watching games and going to lans.

Life's too short to waste time doing stuff you don't truly enjoy, if you don't have fun playing with your current team then just leave. No point wasting your time when your goals aren't aligned as everyone else has said.

From the perspective of somebody who spent many many hours playing this game and trying to get better, I never once had to make a decision whether or not to keep playing despite not wanting to. Don't let your thoughts on 'having potential' force you to continue playing, everyone has potential--to become a good player you need to put in a *lot* of time and that may or may not be worth it to you.

Another thing is it's not quite as black and white as it sounds, as you've probably heard: nobody quits tf2. Like any other hobby, there's absolutely no reason to all of a sudden completely stop it forever. Besides doing a few casts and ringing 2 or 3 times, I haven't touched the game for 2 months, and I've found myself a lot happier as a result. I definitely enjoyed playing all these seasons and watching streams and stuff, but sometimes you just have to take a break and focus on real life. But that's not to say I won't come back for LAN's and maybe even play next season or something. Do what's right for you in the moment, if you feel the urge to grind the game and it's not at the sacrifice of other more important things like schoolwork, go for it.

Yeah I should've been more clear about that, definitely do not want to leave mid season without telling the leader and screwing them over. But if you're really not enjoying it, you could just ask them to find a replacement and then play until they get someone else.
