It's not uncommon to add soy sauce or Worcestershire sauce to tomato sauce.

No. A good tomato sauce is just tomatoes in my opinion, maybe some basil. If you've got a really good tomato sauce made from fresh, ripe tomatoes (i.e. not the stuff you get in a jar from the supermarket) you really don't want any other flavors.

Soy/worcestershire sauce adds a lot of umami. It's a pretty good trick if you're making, say, bolognese sauce.

So, I haven't tried this recipe but it sounds pretty awesome.

Cut an onion in half, heat a bit of olive oil in your sauce pot, then put the cut onion face down in it. Cover it with an appropriate amount of canned tomatoes (prolly at least one 28oz can if not more), let it simmer for a while then add chopped fresh basil, add grated or pressed garlic, and finally a light touch of cream (or coconut milk for Vegans).
(edit: Oh yeah, take the onion out at the end, chop it up then add it back to the sauce)

Sounds pretty tasty to me.

My other preferred methods are either the spicy garlic tom sauce I made in cooking w/ eXtine #1, or mincing up onions/garlic together, sauteing that, eventually adding dried basil, deglazing with red wine, and then adding tomatoes, letting it simmer and maybe pureeing it.
