Hello.

I'm in dire need of a new game to start. I've been feeling pretty bored by the other games I play and the classics just don't do it for me. I want to feel the rush of starting and learning a new game, preferably a recent one as I've played most post-2010 classics.

I'm a pretty big fan of single-player RPGs. Also like sandbox games. Fast quake shooters or beat-em-alls just aren't my type, unfortunately. I really enjoyed games like Skyrim, Morrowind, Witcher 3, AC4, MGSV, Shadow of Mordor,... You get the picture : all the "mainstream" popular RPGs...

Well, no "gamer news site" can be trusted anymore, they're all sold out and they give shit reviews. Steam store browsing isn't really giving me what I'm looking for either.
Any single-player game people here? I need help!

S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl is the greatest
And if you get the 2009 complete mod that updates the visuals a lot and fixes bugs, it comes with a mode that you can turn on to just play the game endlessly and you'll still get missions to complete

is very good gaming bratan

Look into CEMU and try emulating Breath of the Wild. Best single player RPG I've played. Not sure on the HW requirements to get a playable experience because CEMU's been updated so much since I used it.

I posted this 3 weeks ago in another really old thread.

If anyone is still interested in a fantastic single player RPG game series that offers very little eye candy but tons of content to keep you busy for hours on end, you will not find a better deal than right now on Geneforge.

I have played and beaten 3 of these games, still working on the 4th and will likely replay some of them to try different characters/builds. Right now, Steam is offering %70 off these games and you can get the entire bundle of 5 full games for just 5.99. The Steam Sale is over, but its still just 19.95 for all 5 games.

Go to Steam Store and type in "Geneforge".

i've looked at a few trailers of things suggested in this tread so far and nothing really caught my eye all that much (except saints row 4 that shit looks hilarious)
BOTW, hoewever... i have a friend who tried getting me to install CEMU a few months back. The more i look at that game, the more i want to play.

thanks for that little push! i'm gonna go get it.

I'll second Deus Ex: Human Revolution based on what you've said, its sequel Mankind Divided isn't quite as good, but the gameplay is slightly better and taken for what it is it's still a great game if you can get past a mediocre ending and only one hub world (a damn good one though) as opposed to Human Revolution's 2.5 hubs and more varied locations.

I don't know about an emulated version, but Breath of the Wild was pretty great too.

i have deus ex human revolution. i've started it and had to stop due to lack of time for games a few months back, haven't gotten back into it yet. I only played the first mission or something.

I'll look into stalker, since it seems to popular. thanks!

XCOM: Enemy Unknown is a great turn-based strategy game with lots of RPG elements for your individual soldiers (and permadeath). The base game is great, but there's also a mod for it called Long War that turns everything up to 11 and is one of my favorite games ever.

This series gives a good idea of the base game: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z9zJE9GodMQ
(if you're interested in the mod as well that channel has tons of videos on that too)

Battle Brothers is another great turn-based strategy game in the same style.

Either of these are good picks if you want something a bit different. The depth of strategy in either title is incredible.

neverwinter nights, kingdoms of amalur, crash bandicoot n. sane trilogy, kotor I & II (the mmo swtor has major single player aspects to it so if you're into that i'd try it out), monster hunter world.

oblivion has a mod that puts morrowind into oblivion, i've been wanting to try it for a while: http://tesrenewal.com/forums/morroblivion/mods/753

Dragon Quest 11 comes to mind if you like single player RPGs. (It’s a J-RPG+ independent story so you don’t have to have played the previous ones) came out recently, it’s turn based I don’t know if you’re into that, but if you need a time sink, it’s got a 100 hour main story + another 15 or so hours of post game content. It starts off slow, but if you’re willing to endure, it gets very difficult and feels more rewarding about 20 hours in. I fell in love with it, beat it, and I’m replaying it with optional hardcore restrictions that are built into the game. Only downside is that it’s soundtrack is terrible. Like, really bad.

Edit: it’s semi anime

Your usage of "RPG" is both a little loose and pretty vague. Based on the list of games you mentioned, I'm guessing you're mostly interested in story-heavy, action-based games with some form of character progression.

First, a bunch of games which mostly fit the criteria but which you've probably already played or heard of: Fallout 3/4/NV, Mass Effect series, Vampire, GTA, Read Dead, Deus Ex HR/MD, Bioshock series, Witcher 1&2.

Kingdom Come should scratch many of your itches. Its a bit eurojank, but you enjoy Bethesda games, so it shouldn't bother you much. With a little more tolerance, you might also enjoy ELEX, from the makers of the Gothic series.

Since you're gonna check out Stalker, I'll also recommend the Metro series, as long as you don't mind a more linear experience.

Definitely try Prey if you liked the Bioshock games, or if you're old enough to have played System Shock. Same goes for the Dishonored games.

I have no idea if Vampyr is good or not but it ticks enough of the checkboxes to be worth a look.

The new Tomb Raider games are a little bit of stealth-action, little bit of third-person shooter, little bit of platformer-puzzler, with a little bit of upgrading and exploration. You'll probably like them, at least a little bit.

The new AC games are the closest the series has gotten to being RPGs, and they're pretty well liked. In fact, Ubisoft does a ton of open-world sandbox-style action games with mild-to-moderate RPG elements, so you might enjoy the Far Cry and Watch Dogs series.

The Borderlands series has more in common with Diablo-style aRPGs than with the titles you listed, but it can be played solo and has some decent bits.

I couldn't get into them because of the party-based tactical combat, but the Dragon Age series might be of interest, and supposedly Inquisition can be played more-or-less as a straight action game.

Dragon's Dogma is last-gen, but there still hasn't been another RPG quite like it and it's definitely worth a shot.

The Soulsborne series can be pretty polarizing, and is popular enough that I'm not even sure it's worth mentioning, but they aren't considered masterpieces for nothing. If you like these, you'll probably enjoy games like Nioh or The Surge, although they aren't as good. Also if you like the Soulsborne series, and aren't adverse to 2D indies, then Hollow Knight is pretty fantastic.

Do you have a PS4? If so, try Horizon, the new God of War, maybe even the new Spider-Man and Last of Us.

And although I see you don't want anime, I'd still recommend Nier: Automata. I can't stand anime, and there were a lot of cringey moments, but it's still one of the better games of 2017.

Lastly, a handful of more offbeat suggestions that I nevertheless really enjoy: Hellblade, Undertale, Alice: Madness Returns, ECHO, Hyper Light Drifter, Ruiner, Okami, Transistor.

oh, i greatly enjoy games still. i've just played the ones i currently have a bit too much. I've sunk about 2k hours in skyrim in offline mode as a younger kid, for instance. mods galore.
i have other hobbies like working 60 hours a week. :D

Eric and everyone else except Infinity

Thanks for all these suggestions! I'll try to check out at least the trailers for most of these.

i just read up on origin access and it seems like a great deal to me. a shitton of different ea games for like 5 eu/$ a month. There might be some sneaky loophole in there somewhere but i couldn't find it. It seems like netflix but with games which is kinda neat imo

Nobody mentioned fallout new vegas or vampire bloodlines(BEST ONE GO PLAY IT XOXO) so there I add them.

If you like combat RPGs you can look at Shadowrun: Dragonfall.

Everyone else already mentioned tons of good games (esp. Deus Ex GOTY)
