Hi all,

TLDR: Looking for suggestions of single player games that fit my likes

I have only really enjoyed a handful of single player games in my life:
- 8-12 years old: Knights & Merchants, Age of Empires, Driver & Crash bandicoot, (PS1)
- 10-14 runescape, age of empires, age of mythology, rollercoaster tycoon
- 14-20 team fortress 2, battlefield 2, GTA games, quake live, Driver San Fransisco (PC)
the last 4 years almost only a bit of tf2 and GTA V

I decided to look for a singleplayer game and bought Assassins creed: Origins. Played it for 1h then uninstalled again.
Open world games with a lot of freedom is what I enjoy (GTA) but I used to enjoy KaM / AoE a lot back in the day before I played fps.
Considering to buy a playstation for the crash bandicoot remake, I'm sure I would enjoy that.

Do you guys have any suggestion what I may like? I actually haven't played that many different games for more than 50hours.. Does the average gamer here play a much larger amount of games?

EDIT: just bought Crash Bandicoot, was not aware it is already available for PC!

I highly recommend the elder scrolls series. You can pretty much take your pick of how oldschool you want the game to be depending on how much of a "classic rpg experience" (whatever the fuck that means) you want. Most oldschool tes fans laugh at skyrim for being watered down but its honestly still a really fucking good game and its incredibly easy to lose yourself in the world.

Dishonored 1 is a fun FPS single player game with magic abilities and interesting weapons and interesting story. it is a pretty linear game though.

Dark Souls is good if you haven't played it before. It has some multiplayer but mostly difficult, single-player PvM and bossfights, and you can play it offline if you really want to.

Bioshock is similar enough to Dishonored in the sense that it has weird/fun weapons and magic abilities along with a big story focus. Fun game

Portal 1 and 2 are classic first person puzzle platformers from valve.. chances are you've played them but if you haven't I would recommend it. If you dont like puzzle games dont go for it

Just Cause 2 is a nice open-world game with a lot of focus on weapons, vehicles and destruction. Nice game to screw around in but similar to GTA. Maybe Just Cause 3 is better or more up to date, but i haven't played it

the Crash remaster released on PC as you said, a year after the PS4 release, and i think they are going to do the same with the Spyro remaster which is releasing on PS4 later this year ;)

I have the same thing. I basicially don't enjoy singleplayer games these days. The only games I fully enjoy are either the games I liked in my childhood or games that are related to these games.

Older ones:
- Zeus and Poseidon & The Settlers II (10th anniversary) are citybuilders I personaly like the most.
- God of War games (the old ones atleast, dunno about the new one)
- I never liked modern RPG's. The only RPG I ever fell in love with, besides the original pokemon games, is Dragon Quest VIII. With the same classic battlesystem as pokemon basicially.
- Hitman: Blood Money
- Crash Team Racing

Newer ones
- The latest Hitman if you like stealth games.
- Deus Ex: Human Revolution and Deus Ex: Mankind Divided
- Bioshock: Infinite is probably the only FPS singleplayer I ever completed.

Planet Coaster - it's similar to Rollercoaster Tycoon, and basically the most modern theme park tycoon you can get right now.

Cities: Skylines - instead of a theme park, it's a city. Like SimCity, but better.

Brutal Legend - it's a "metal" game starring Jack Black. It's just fun to play.

Borderlands - this is basically one of my all-time favs, though if you're going to get into the game for the first time, Borderlands 2 is a solid starting point. The base game is great, but it's definitely better with the DLC.

Stardew Valley - this isn't for everyone, admittedly. It's relaxing, slow, and full of RPG goodness.

Just Cause 3 - someone else on here already recommended Just Cause 2, which is still a great game. However, JC3 is simply bigger. It's a direct upgrade to JC2 in almost every single way. Think of it as GTA, but where your primary objective isn't robbing banks, it's blowing shit up.

Saints Row 2 - this is by far the most comparable game to classic GTA, and the best in the Saints Row series. Controls are dated, and driving mechanics aren't super fluid, but it's still an all around great game.

Saints Row 3 or 4 - unlike the first two games, Saints 3 and 4 take a far more silly approach, and just focuses on mindless fun. It's very silly, stupid, mindless, and absurd, but it's also a fun game, and one that I really enjoy.

LA Noire - if you're looking for a pure story game with you being a detective in 1940's LA, then LA Noire is really the best thing you can get. I own multiple copies of this (alongside other Rockstar games) and really can't recommend it enough. However, it's not for everyone. You're a detective, and sometimes being a detective is slow.

Deus Ex: Human Revolution - this is a fantastic story driven game, and a pretty iconic one at that.

Doom - it's just mindless shooting. Super fun.

Mirror's Edge - a modern classic as far as I'm concerned. It's mostly based on movement, and going through levels as fast as you can. Highly stylized, with combat being entirely optional.

There is only one game I will ever pre-order and that's Cyberpunk 2077, by CDPR. They're the ones who made the Witcher games. So give those a shot - it's not a stretch to say Witcher 3 is my favorite non-TF2 game.

When Cyberpunk comes out I'll be playing it nonstop. :D

Skyrim, Deus Ex series, Hitman series, Fallout 3/NV for RPG.
Sid Meier's Civilization series 1-2-3-4-5-6 are really great strategy games. One of my personal favorites is the Tropico series though. Those are like a slower-paced Age of Empires. Really love them.

Since you liked crash bandicoot, i suggest rayman 3 (on GOG)
If you liked GTA, try Sleeping Dogs(chinese GTA)
If you liked solo RTS, you can't go wrong with Homeworld Remastered, although it's sci fi and not medieval so you might not like that.

You may also like Dying Light, it's an open world FPS with parkour mechanics and zombies.

the new zelda game (Breath of the Wild) was a fantastic open world experience, but you'd have to drop money for a switch. Plenty of the games suggested here are also available on the switch though (Doom, LA Noire, Skyrim) so maybe it's worth looking into?
