Don't exec autoexec. That executes mastercomfig all over again. Make a separate binds.cfg or something if you'd like to have base settings.

As for AELai, I'm not sure why yours is not working. Perhaps there's an alias that's causing a loop? Could you show me all your alias definitions (like vmflip).

From testing, it seems "mat_texture_reload_frame_swap_workaround 0" fixes the problem. I'm running Arch Linux / amdgpu // Ryzen 1600 (3.8 Ghz) / 3200Mhz 2x8GB RAM / RX 580 4GB.

FPS gain/loss seems negligible with either option so I set it to 0 in custom.

While the whole machine learning thing sounds pretty cool, I think it's clear from the survey that the majority of players aren't interested in paying for a config.

All I want in a config is to remove as much visual clutter as possible, and a nice performance boost, which I can already do thanks to the efforts yourself and others before you have put in. Paying a monthly fee just to "fine-tune specific values" just seems a little unnecessary and over the top in my opinion.

Yeah that's why I had the survey. But keep in mind that it's not just fine tuning values for your specific system configuration but also giving you recommendations on what quality levels to choose based on your specified quality/performance preference and it gives you estimates for the performance impact of different quality levels.

Also, the only thing you subscribe to is the service, not the values you obtain from it. So you could totally subscribe for just a month to get the optimal values and adjust quality levels with the recommendation engine, but you wouldn't get future updates to those recommendations as the service learns more.

However, this is primarily just supposed to be a donation (which a lot of people expressed wanting to do), so I think it's good to consider that instead of just the raw benefit.

* No Extra Models: Included with 7.0.0 currently. Will be made part of the world detail setting.
* No Footsteps: Not available for 7.0.0. 6.7.0 VPK is compatible. Will be a sound setting.
* No Pyroland: Not available for 7.0.0. 6.7.0 VPK is compatible. Will be a world detail setting.
* No Soundscapes: Not available for 7.0.0. 6.7.0 VPK is compatible. Will be a sound setting.

I have updated the dynamic hardware config data. Just use 7.0.0-a.10 and reapply to stream in the latest config.

There's just thousands of things to comment, so I hope you can understand why it's not a thing right now. I'm sorry that you think this is sad, and I agree that this sort of info is very valuable for users. It's not a decision I made to them unavailable to users, I really want to add them before 7.0.0 goes into beta.

Nothing that isn't specific per user will be put behind a paywall. All mastercomfig+ is doing is adding specifically tailored values for your computer, based on machine learning analysis. Again, while I think the whole machine-learning thing sounds really fucking cool, I'm still really doubtful about the whole thing, and I want to raise certain key areas which others may not feel like expressing due to the overwhelming number of survey participants, but lack of forum replies. And just to add this disclaimer: there is no hate or spite here from me, more just confusion over anything else and seeking answers.

That's 87.7% of 106 people who are against/uncertain to the idea.

Another issue I'd like to raise is that dummies like myself still don't really understand the whole idea, so along with the survey results, I don't think you've really sold the community on what you're trying to achieve here. What is machine learning? How does it work? How exactly will that be used here? What sort of performance impact will it have on my game, if it is gathering data specific to my system? What sort of performance boost would I be expecting to obtain from all of this? Would this all be included in the .exe file, or will that be a separate download? What sort of data is being collected? Have I misunderstood the idea completely? I still have many more questions, and I only have one or two very short sentences by yourself to go by. And as you're the salesperson, I can't say I'm sold yet.

What exactly will the difference be between the paid version and the free version? If we set aside cvars which are mostly personal preference (decals, props, gibs, ragdolls, ropes, effects, sound, lighting, shadows, post processing, character visuals etc etc), what exactly will mastercomfig+ be suggesting to improve performance that we don't already know thanks to your efforts so far?

If the number of people subscribing is lower than you originally thought, how long will you maintain the project for?

Finally I'll be blunt - I have no intention of using mastercomfig+, but I appreciate your efforts and enthusiasm for this 10 year old game. Nevertheless, will I be able to donate a single lump sum of money your way, instead of seeing -$2.70's on my bank statement each month?

just to throw an opionion into the mix:
i get that/why people would lol at the idea of paying for something as "trivial" as a config for some game, but that's really just because we've been spoiled by those capable and willing, like Chris in the past with the famous chris' config.

it's pretty rare for knowledgeable and clever people like chris, mastercoms and setsul to spend time helping a bunch of average gamers like us (yes), and they will be moving on at some point, and you never know if there'll be a replacement any time soon.

i wouldn't push or even recommend anyone to donate, but don't forget that a lot of time goes into stuff like this, and the majority of gamers are nowhere near capable of producing configs like this.
and let's be real, we've all spent hundreds, if not thousands of hours in tf2 using configs that people like mastercoms have made.

just don't take it for granted, peeps.

as for ways of payment, i've always preferred simple one-shot paypal donations so i can decide what i want to pay/can miss, and later i can always come back and put in extra. i realize that might not be ideal for someone putting in time consistently, but i think it's safe to assume that some might not bother with patreon at all, while they would consider something like paypal. (just a suggestion to have that as an option as well.)

Put in X amount of dollars = X months of subscription + remainder being considered a straight donation. Without a recurring subscription, of course you can still have a subscription method as well, but I believe having the prior method would be preferable to the majority of people willing to donate/pay you.

Also to give some people an idea the kind of time and effort updating a config actually takes. I actually kept track for a few months of how much time I put into updating my config. In early 2017 I spent roughly ~30hrs updating my config, keep in mind that was just me doing the bare minimum of updating it, correcting errors, testing bugs and fixing broken download links. Between 2013 to the end of 2015 I spent easily 300+ hours updating and making my configs, and I didn't even do it that well. I didn't make an install client for it, I didn't specify every bug I fixed, I didn't make dozens of presets, I didn't make a linux/mac os version. I can only imagine the amount of time Mastercoms has put into this and it really makes me wonder how you could possibly have that much time.

It doesn't really matter how many people won't subscribe, since mastercomfig+ isn't designed to negatively affect them (in fact, stuff will trickle down to the main config so it can only help them). The only thing that matters is how many people will subscribe, as that helps me determine how extensive the analysis can be and if I can sustain it at all.

So the app will collect hardware and OS information, similar to Steam's hardware survey. It will also collect performance data while you run the game. I'm not entirely sure what the performance impact will be yet since mastercomfig+ isn't close to being actually implemented yet, but my goal is to make it close to zero since this is a performance config after all.

So all this data is submitted to a server which analyzes the data using machine learning, which makes associations between hardware details, performance data and settings. As more data comes in from a wide variety of systems, it will be able to analyze enough data to make predictions about optimal values and performance for different settings.

You shouldn't set aside those values, as that's a big part of mastercomfig+. Here's a mockup of how it would look like:

This would replace the presets with a preference slider for performance/quality, along with a performance estimate based on your selections and hardware.

Individual settings would show relative performance estimates and highlight highest performance/quality options, so you can tell what the best tradeoff is going to be.

In addition to these recommendations/performance predictions, it will also tune hardware specific settings optimizations, like clipping, z reject, occlusion, etc.

I think I've stated this before, but you are in no way required to do a recurring payment. You can do a single payment which pays towards your subscription, and you get to keep any values gotten from the service even after your subscription expires. So let's say you donate a one time payment of $18.09. That would be enough for the biannual payment + 1 month, so you would get the service for that long and once your subscription ends, you get to keep the values generated from it, but you won't get future values as the service does more analysis until you pay for the service again. And, if you pay any thing extra (like let's say $1.70), it will go towards paying for your service as it accumulates to the required payment.

As explained above, there's no requirement to do a recurring subscription. Also, think about it like this: you donate money one time, and you get something extra, even if it's just for like a month or so. I think that's better than just donating and getting nothing at all and there being no clear benefit to how the donation will improve the config's service to its users.

I'm not sure if I understand the issue with a subscription, you can still do one time payments and you get the service for as much as you paid for. See above for more information.

So the app will collect hardware and OS information, similar to Steam's hardware survey. It will also collect performance data while you run the game. I'm not entirely sure what the performance impact will be yet since mastercomfig+ isn't close to being actually implemented yet, but my goal is to make it close to zero since this is a performance config after all.

So all this data is submitted to a server which analyzes the data using machine learning, which makes associations between hardware details, performance data and settings. As more data comes in from a wide variety of systems, it will be able to analyze enough data to make predictions about optimal values and performance for different settings.

You shouldn't set aside those values, as that's a big part of mastercomfig+. Here's a mockup of how it would look like:

This would replace the presets with a preference slider for performance/quality, along with a performance estimate based on your selections and hardware.

Individual settings would show relative performance estimates and highlight highest performance/quality options, so you can tell what the best tradeoff is going to be.

In addition to these recommendations/performance predictions, it will also tune hardware specific settings optimizations, like clipping, z reject, occlusion, etc.

I think I've stated this before, but you are in no way required to do a recurring payment. You can do a single payment which pays towards your subscription, and you get to keep any values gotten from the service even after your subscription expires. So let's say you donate a one time payment of $18.09. That would be enough for the biannual payment + 1 month, so you would get the service for that long and once your subscription ends, you get to keep the values generated from it, but you won't get future values as the service does more analysis until you pay for the service again. And, if you pay any thing extra (like let's say $1.70), it will go towards paying for your service as it accumulates to the required payment.

Patreon provides PayPal as a payment method. And, it's fine if you pay only one time, as explained above.

As explained above, there's no requirement to do a recurring subscription. Also, think about it like this: you donate money one time, and you get something extra, even if it's just for like a month or so. I think that's better than just donating and getting nothing at all and there being no clear benefit to how the donation will improve the config's service to its users.

I'm not sure if I understand the issue with a subscription, you can still do one time payments and you get the service for as much as you paid for. See above for more information.
