tatuwahaThe action will center around a tournament featuring some of the top teams in the world. On Friday, the event will begin with an open qualifier, where 14 open teams will compete against each other to advance to the main event alongside the 4 to-be-announced invited teams.
is there a cap of 14 teams?

Yes there is, which is dictated by the number of PCs we have available as well as space and time.

I'm supposing no hotel deals are being made this year? I was holding out since it was discounted $40/night last year, but if there isn't going to be one I'd like to know where other people are staying/best deals so I can book soon :)

Maxi-also might ask Sony for stuff...

Never mind I'm being made redundant at the end of March.

is anyone making the drive to the venue/hotel that can make a pitstop for me? because im close/far enough for a plane ticket to be incredibly unnecessary and an uber to be too expensive for a single person ($150~ to and from). plus i don't wanna do small talk with a complete stranger about nothing for around an hour as opposed to an hour of talking about the event/tf2 in general with somebody i can actually share something with. will provide some gas money and can bring some snacks. id like to arrive thursday afternoon. i like to think im a friendly and clean person so there should be no issue there. feel free to add me on steam to talk about it: http://steamcommunity.com/id/bolognaboy/
edit: i live in reseda btw which is around an hour driving from the venue and is near north hollywood

So when it says spectating is free does that mean exactly what it sounds like? Can I show up and watch, free of charge, or does it mean spectating online is free?
How does it work? Do I need to preregister or otherwise save myself a spot? Is parking free?
I noticed it said there was a bar. Can I still enter the Arena as a minor? (With or without an accompanying adult)

Might want to mention off the bat where you're located, I think more folks will be inclined to reach out that way!

CaptainZidgel-

If you're just there to watch and hang out it's free, it's just if you wanted to use the computers you'll have to pay. If it's like last year, just show up! There's a small lot across the street and some parking garages around the area and street parking but ESA doesn't have its own dedicated parking area.

And yes, you can still attend as a minor.

That's awesome! I'm definitely going to go, then.
It's actually closer than I thought. If I knew it was close I'dve gone last year.
The final question is...
what are the bathroom accommodations? Are there a lot of stalls? Or just a single bathroom?

oh, and can I bring my own backpack of food or nah?

There's bathrooms off to the side. The women's has a bunch of stalls maybe 3-4 and a handicapped, not sure about the guy's side. I don't see why you can't bring your own food, I brought my lunches back to the venue.

I realize this is a long shot but the team I was on didn't get to buying the open bracket spot in time because of various roster issues that have since been resolved... Is there any chance there's some way we can still get in on the action? We just wanna play :(

I've been working on an official Hotel deal, but haven't been able to secure anything officially. However my recommendation is the Clarion Inn and Suites in Santa Ana. It's typically $85-$95 a night. We have booked rooms here in the past, and it's clean with good amenities.

I recommend this be the official unofficial hotel of Rewind 2.

Also want to say that 3 additional open team passes have been made available on our website!

Asked first page but will the bar have hard liquor this time? Or just beer and wine?

Why does the ESA site say February 2?

https://i.imgur.com/2zHH29R.png

Also, are the individual LAN passes going to be available for purchase at the venue or do we have to order them ahead of time?

edit: just a thought to increase attendance

There's almost 4 months of summer break. I agree the winter makes more sense than the summer since i-series is in the summer, but there could be a 3 month gap between i-series and esa if the summer was desired. I think the attendance to both lans, if they were both in the summer, would still be higher than having esa during the semester. Early summer (late may / early june) makes more sense than having it straight up in the middle of the semester when midterms are. Not everybody that plays TF2 competitively goes to school, but the vast majority do. I have an exam on that friday and I know a bunch of other people (posts on these threads, personal friends, etc.) that have ones on friday/monday as well, or even people who just can't miss four days of studying, or two days of class for various reasons.

Having an event that's supposed to represent the top teams and be "the (second) lan for tf2" during the semester isn't most ideal. It's possible to suggest that, similarly, there are people who couldn't make it in the winter or summer because some people schedule obligations during those times, but it most definitely wouldn't be as many people that couldn't make it during the semester.
