When I lived in Asia I was co-owner of a fairly large spy clan there. The owner told me I should try getting to "Platinum".
Obviously he meant I should try playing UGC Plat at the the time, but I looked up "Platinum" on youtube and watched a bunch of 6s with the US player Platinum in it.
Half a year later after trialing as Spy and Pyro for a bunch of HL teams that died, I played a 6s pug as Scout and got like 500dpm on viaduct and this guy adds me for his 6s team.

I played on Facepunch community servers back in 2008/2009, we made a highlander team for the ETF2L Highlander Challenge (that tournament with the most teams ever or something). Played a few games in Highlander, then my friend Cam00/Pom00 suggested making a 6v6 team for Season 14.

myself and midas used to play competitive mario kart wii, we met sometime in like 2011 though never really talked much. sometime in 2013 we happened to be in a skype group together and we started talking about tf2 bc i mentioned it for some reason. after that we got into trading/orange servers and met some people and the rest is history.

I saw the youtuber vs pros game in 2015, where i saw froyotech demolish the people who I thought were the best at tf2. I then got interested in comp, and played a bit, but I'm not really dedicated enough to be a solid player.

I found a muselk video on how to play comp tf2 and I just played tf2center a bit. Found some friends in casual to create a highlander team. The people I met from there introduced me into 6s and here I am now D:

i used to be a trader, and one of the trade servers i frequented on usually had "pub nights" where a bunch of the regulars would join the server chain's pub server. there were actually some good players there, slemnish being one of them. a friend of mine was wearing a ugc badge, and i asked him what it was from. i ended up putting a recruitment post up a season later.

7-8 years ago I frequently played in a arena server w/ euro friends (chrysanthus, vani, ironhawk, maxter, chilly and others) when someone named caneD eventually asked chrys and I to play on his div6 team. so I ended up playing etf2l before any na tf2.

Think various youtube vids (probably suggested on Mr Paladin vids...) ended up with me playing HL demo in open for some randoms (Maxpolk I think one was called - cheers, if you ever read this and that was your name)

Then signed up for this year's Fresh Meat challenge. Jimb0t/Pheaa from Loli Squad caught me asking in random pubs if anyone wanted to play, and stepped in to save me from myself in terms of how all the team stuff was done so I could actually make a team.

And so, The Shaggers Club came into being.

i used to play in a pub orange server against a couple of silver/plat/open soldiers when I was a no brain pubber. They liked how i used to jump so they invited me to a couple of tf2c lobbies and I didn't hate playing roamer.

I was part of the Lost Continents TF2 community for many years around 2008-2010. There were many early season Invite guys that were part of the community, like Orzo, slardel and others. We used to play in-house Highlander a lot, and I found it pretty fun. I just kinda thought Highlander was some made up thing that someone there invented, I didn't realize it was a whole competitive mode with a league and all that. With time, we started playing HL less and playing in-house sixes (of course).

Reddit used to hold an event called the Round Robin, which was an annual event for people to come and try competitive for the first time, get mentored by dudes who knew their shit i.e. hein, and get cast by real casters like Kip. To be honest I'm not sure how I found out about it, but I had been playing the game for like 5 years, and figured it would be fun to play on a team. After that I got asked by a member of the TrashedGamers community to join her Silver HL team and I played a couple seasons in UGC. Fun times for sure. I decided I was better at talking into a microphone than playing though, so the comp career didn't last long. All I wish in hindsight is that I had found out about comp and gotten into it sooner!
