GoofyGorillahow do u expect a website to function if some of those ports aren't left open like what are you even proving lol

Made changes to the server recently, and kinda... uh, forgot to harden it again.
Getting around to that in a bit. Going to also edit php a bit as it's insecure as well.

No, it's still happening. I just didn't expect things to take off as well as they did. Like, I honestly expected it to be dead on arrival, and it actually has teams and such playing right now. Which is super awesome.
Trying to get some sponsors on board for a new ultiduo thing as well. And then there's the whole LAN stuff. Everything's just going so fast, I'm kinda scared honestly.

ya im not gonna tell u whats wrong with it but jesus christ if ur actually going to school studying cs and u think that when somebody checks ur ports it looks like that u need to get a refund

Can you actually pm me the info? I hired a management company a while back to do that shit, and I've kinda neglected server hardening for a while.
I'm not really the best at managing servers. The management company is supposed to do most of that for me, but they're not proactive. Gotta manually submit requests to have it hardened.

eeewhat's the difference between an invite sandbag and the #3 team in open when it comes to everyone who isn't on the #2nd~5th team?

you're gonna get demolished either

this and if you say it's different because they offclass to pyro and shit it literally doesn't matter because if they were vanilla classes you'd just get rolled every mid and they'd push last and you don't really learn much from that either.

Like yeah it's kinda shitty but It's honestly not that big of a deal if there are only 1 or 2 open teams that are stacked.

Getting back to the initial topic, I'd say that even as a top 4 open team, it's pretty disheartening to know that seeding is everything and if you don't get the "correct" record, you'll end up with no chance at reaching grand finals. My team had this happen and we all accepted the fact that we wouldn't beat offclassico. We settled for 3rd place but we knew we had potential to beat the 2nd place team last season. The 2nd place team had goldfish on it as well and yet we still had chance to beat them which goes to show with a little bit of moderation for invite players in lower divisions (especially open), the division could still be pretty fair. But if the majority of the players on a team are invite, they simply don't belong in open and regardless of however long this has been happening, it is a problem. We've just gotten so accustomed to it that nobody has said much about it or tried fixing it.

mman i wanna play A COMPETITIVE GAME MODE IN A PAID DIVISION IN A LEAGUE THAT ALLOWS ANYBODY TO REGISTER but im gonna make a post complaining when people are better than me because theyre more experienced

also i have a really hard time thinking that very nice people like ranga would ever waste time flaming overly sensitive open players

heres whats bound to be an even more popular opinion, your team hasnt won a round yet, but u decide to go out of ur way to make a post complaining about invite players when ur getting slammed by people who havent even made open playoffs yet

im sure ur sentiments will be echoed by a lot of frusturated open players who feel ur pain but it really doesnt make it a valid thing to whine about, go look at csgo/source/1.6 open seasons and see how many open playoff teams are just reformed main/prem teams

if you actually want to go somewhere in tf2 ur gonna have to start beating (ex)invite players eventually, might as well try ur ass off now and learn what u can instead of typing about how hard it is to wrap ur little noodle around the concept of sandbagging

Anybody including ex-Invite players have the right to play and make teams in open period. If your point is coming from the players guilty of "sandbagging" though it's hypocritical to tell open players to suck it up when you're the ones also afraid of playing actual competition (b4nny & co.) in Invite. At that point it's just encouraging complaining open players by example to stick to UGC instead which is worse off for the game overall.

I think it's partly due to invite fees being so expensive, $510 for a team

supersubbowswer5mman i wanna play A COMPETITIVE GAME MODE IN A PAID DIVISION IN A LEAGUE THAT ALLOWS ANYBODY TO REGISTER but im gonna make a post complaining when people are better than me because theyre more experienced

also i have a really hard time thinking that very nice people like ranga would ever waste time flaming overly sensitive open players

heres whats bound to be an even more popular opinion, your team hasnt won a round yet, but u decide to go out of ur way to make a post complaining about invite players when ur getting slammed by people who havent even made open playoffs yet

im sure ur sentiments will be echoed by a lot of frusturated open players who feel ur pain but it really doesnt make it a valid thing to whine about, go look at csgo/source/1.6 open seasons and see how many open playoff teams are just reformed main/prem teams

if you actually want to go somewhere in tf2 ur gonna have to start beating (ex)invite players eventually, might as well try ur ass off now and learn what u can instead of typing about how hard it is to wrap ur little noodle around the concept of sandbagging

Actually I'm pretty sure that's the only reason. If Invite fees were as cheap as open fees there'd be more teams willing to risk their money playing against FROYO but the expensive fees are also the only thing keeping top level TF2 prestigious right now so it's absolutely necessary.

It doesn't change my point though. Why should a new open team pay league fees to play against ex-Invite teams or players with 4-5 season of open experience instead of chilling with friends in UGC? Why should a low-mid Invite team pay league fees to play against the best teams in the world instead of chilling with friends in open? The anti-competitive mentality behind it is the same.

There's virtually no difference between a sandbagging team and one of the top open teams, I dont get why it's an issue to have more skill in the top half of the division.

ya thatd make sense if we were just all indigo children born in invite but sometimes after grinding ur way up to invite u realize u dont wanna play invite hope that make sense

nobodys 'afraid' of banny just when u have a fulltime job and 10 hours a week to play a videogame even if youre capable of playing at a higher level why waste ur time killing urself when u can play with ur buds in open

im not saying any of my teams could/should've consistently been winning/finishing top 2 in invite but after a certain point u have to be realistic in how much time you want to put into the game with the talent/dedication of the players on the team u have

anybody who sticks to ugc because they dont wanna get stomped in open isnt gonna help comp tf2 anyway lolz

if you are playing tf2 with the goal of getting better and you are losing to people who are playing for fun in league matches, you literally have nothing to complain about as youre probably getting

(a) rolled by them fucking around and playing classes they arent as good at (which means you'd lose anyway)
(b) rolled by them on their mains playing the classes their best at
(c) some kind of close match where u dont win because they are more experienced/have better dm/exploit some kinda weakness in ur team that other open teams werent aware of

youve now been exposed to a far higher level of play than before and if youre actually trying to improve at the game, im certain theres a ton of valuable feedback in those demos if you actually take the time to watch them

alternatively if ur fucking around in open and losing to other people fucking around in open u also dont get to complain because the actual sense and balance of competition is out the window as youve decided ur just playing for fun

GoofyGorillaYes because after 2 semesters of a CS minor I have definitely learned everything there is to know about skidding and le hacking

just basing off the fact that ur unaware google exists and u said 'le hacking' im gonna go ahead and say that its mega ultra basic fucking knowledge but whatever man have fun being the only guy in the family who knows how to turn a modem off and on

First of all you guys need to learn to consolidate quotes, that shit takes way too much space up

Secondly, pretty sure the only way to become one of the better players with 4-5 seasons of experience you mention is by... ya know... actually sticking it out for that many seasons on a low level team.
You don't get experience by not doing something and making an excuse. I feel like this is a big barrier that a lot of new ESEA teams put up for themselves to try and excuse not wanting to play.

Sorry, but what's an "invite level" player, and how would you determine that on paper? Anyone who played in invite (lol)? Are you gonna base it on how recent their time in invite was? How well they did?

When I played in open, we played against plenty of ex-invite/IM players, and a good number of them were pretty bad/washed up/worse than people in open. I don't think I was ever like "omg, we will never beat that team because so-and-so played in invite."

If you're good, you're good. If you're a threat, you're a threat. If you're getting bodied by 5 invite players offclassing, you're gonna get bodied just as bad by a top open team with no invite players.

If this game actually paid its players, you might have a case. It doesn't. TF2 players are in it for the fun. If I'm an "invite level player," and I want to play tf2 with my friends, and I don't want to pay 85 dollars, or practice my dick off, or worry about roster changes and cuts, I'm gonna play in open. It's not my fault if my friends and I are better at the game than you and yours. Your lack of experience or ability shouldn't prevent me from being able to play with people I want to play with, especially not in a game where I'm probably losing money to play. The open prize is tiny, btw, so the notion that people are doing it "just for the money" and committing several nights a week for a couple months just to make what a part time worker makes in a couple days is pretty silly.

If you're not getting beneficial practice against that team... practice against another team.

If the obvious sandbag teams got moved up to IM we wouldnt hav3 a problem with "saving the division" or whatever.
I still think teams should b3 free to play in opej but its just a thought.

So are we going to give a reason as to why a team full of invite players should be allowed to openly BM and ruin Open players' matches or are we going to keep jumping to unrelated topics and personal attacks?

Seeing as there is no way to force people to play in and pay up for any division, sandbagging will always exist. Perhaps lowering Invite fees would have some impact, but almost certainly the best way to tackle it would be to increase the incentive to play in Invite instead. For example if you made more money than the winners of Open regardless of your placing in Invite, then you'd probably get many more of those people who are wasting their talents in lower divisions to tough it out in Invite. This would either take a complete restructuring of the prizes and fees for ESEA TF2 or a significant influx of cash. But of course, we are lucky to have the little prize money we already have so its kind of a pipe dream.
