I guess he didn't consider himself a pro tf2 player? He played for Awsomniac didn't he? Pretty cool he's found success in overwatch.

it wasn't his proffesion, it was a hobby.
the level in tf2 is if you played the game long enough you will be at the highest tier, so he probably enjoyed playing it and after a while got into prem.
in overwatch to be at the top requires much more, because if you don't practice enough, someone else will take your spot because there is a lot on stake.

Ok then, if it's that easy go and win a big ow tournament. Free money, right?

I get thay there's an OW hate bandwagon but to say that the top players don't practice is ridiculous. It's a game played by millions of people and only a few are on top. Sure the mechanics are dumbed down compared to tf2 but there is still something that makes the top players, ya know, top players. To say that they didn't practice to get there is just delusional

Aim assist ults that can easily be avoided with little gamesense, aim assist that only 2 heroes have
Wallhacks from 2 heroes that are not even much played in competitive OW.
Play or Watch the game, before talking about it and hating it.

Ok then, if it's that easy go and win a big ow tournament. Free money, right?

You don't express it correctly. The game is mechanically simpler, so players are differenciated on tinier execution details given everyone more or less uses the similar metagame (as everyone adapts v quickly).

The game does not feel hard, but getting this tiny mechanical edge in a game not designed as mechanically challenging is actually difficult

Reeroyeah when everyone has aim assist retarded "ults" and wallhacks the playing floor becomes even!@!!!

u realize that 76 and widowmaker are seldom used because of how other characters do their job better.
the game at a top level is more like a moba but aim still matters a lot, theres just so little legitimate movement in OW compared to tf2.
if you wanna talk about things in that game not working like they should talk about the dumb idea of big projectiles, rein requiring no aim, or roadhogs hook and how it works post balance.
im really sick of seeing the same two posts done over and over on any OW thread of either ow.gg or cheats in-game.

the skill ceilling in ow is high enough that the best players in the game are mostly the ones who had similiar experience before it was released and dedicate a lot of time to it.

and I am willing to bet that anyone bashing the game for being way to easy won't become a top player unless he grinds his ass all day.
even clockwork who bashed the game when it came out is streaming mm for over 5 hours and then probably scrims.
I don't think he would be playing that much if he didn't need to.

btw I never said that being at the highest tier of tf2 wouldn't be hard if there was an initiative for it, but in the current state of tf2, there is no real reason to improve to get to the top level.

If you like tf2, play tf2. If you like overwatch, play overwatch. If you want to become a professional, play overwatch. Because there is no money in tf2. If you don't care about becoming a professional, play whatever game you feel like playing.

Simple.

I don't think he would be playing that much if he didn't need to.

One of the interesting things about his experience is that he's found (after an amusing run in with an Overwatch white knight) that his opinion and those of his colleagues in competitive OW actually seem to matter to the direction of the game. A huge novelty for a competitive TF2 player obviously, but a reason why the level of OW bashing has died back, as well as the $$$ on offer obviously.

  • i doubt the official ow channel wants to advertise tf2

I've noticed that if you're a second tier player (no offense meant Redzzz et al but you know...) you can come from TF2 or another game, but if you're one of the best players/important to a country or demographic like Shadowburn or Zebbo then you're an Overwatch original who has played "other games".

It's like they want to tread a narrow line between acknowledging the wider gaming ecosystem but need to protect some notion of their major competitive assets being untainted by association with other games.

yes because saying that overwatch doesn't require any skill to get to the top level because of ults is an actual criticism and not "being salty" or "crying"
no one would call you out on your stupidity if you would actually raise decent points, instead you're saying the same stuff people said when the game was barely a week into the closed beta.

people like you that played quake/cs competitively are the ones that say that tf2 is just a cartoon game that cannot be taken seriously.
people that never played the game and don't understand it, calling the game shit, ironic imo.
