A few questions about null-movement scripts

So I've just been debating whether or not I should install a null-movement script. It sounds like it would be super helpful but it seems like not many people actually use it. Having it kinda seems like a direct upgrade and from what I can tell there isn't really a downside to using it?? Is there some reason I don't know that it isn't used by like every player? Is it banned in some league? Is it considered dumb/unnecessary like a rocket jump script? Or am I wrong and everyone actually uses it and I've just been in the dark? Any answers would be appreciated.

There's literally no downside, it's not banned anywhere, it's pretty essential for decent movement imo, download the hell out of it. Almost everyone I know uses it.

Actually most top invite players don't use it, by preference.

I personally think it's annoying, and it makes it harder to aim in general. when testing from the other player's pov, people have told me that my movement looked almost exactly the same, but I also stutter step a lot without the script.

if you can master it, movement stops mid-air as scout are really useful for dodging projectiles. null-movement script will by default make your movement ~ok~ but if you want to get really skilled at scout i'd avoid it and just learn how to utilise all of your wasd keys properly. everything the script gives you can be achieved without it, its just harder to learn.

it took today's top players years, toiling away in private servers, just to make sure they took their fingers off of a before hitting d. show them what's what by using your very own null-movement script today!

let's be honest, you don't have time to waste. in today's TF2, there are all these weapons with different, steep learning curves that need your attention, and you can't be wasting time working on wasd. you have to take your finger off off of one key before hitting the opposite direction? let's be serious! be a forward-thinker, climb to invite in mere months, and laugh at your competition as they stumble over themselves, with the null movement script

stutter-stepping can be really annoying in mge (ammomod in particular) when fighting both scouts and soldiers.

To me all it does is take that out of the equation and I don't see why you'd want that.

Then again, I don't really know anyone who stutter-steps in actual games.

stutter stepping in tf2 is mostly useless but the null cancelling movement script doesn't prevent you from doing that

One thing some scouts like nukkye and gor3 does is to hold either strafe button (A or D) and then tapping the other one in random intervals, making you very unpredictable. I think null cancelling would not allow this.

Null cancelling does help prevent you accidentally fucking up double jump (where you lose all momentum) I think.

its all preference. same as with default vs original, different sensitivities, etc.
without it you can tap the opposite direction to stand still and be an mge lord, but with it you can adadad easier by holding one and tapping the other, and it also stops you from fucking up and doing the directionless double jumps, and if you really wanna stand still you can just not press any buttons (probably lose a few frames compared to without it but hey this isnt ssbm)

I *personally* find it makes it too awkward to use consistently.

Again, just me.

null cancelling actually makes this better.

without null cancelling you'd drift to a stop if you held A & D down at the same time, with it you actually counter-strafe and change direction quicker.

imo it's very useful since it makes your WASD more responsive. it took like a day or two for me to stop walking into walls and shit when i started using it though

i personally like the script because when rocket jumping/strafing in mid air if you happen to push both a and d you will stop like mid air, and you dont strafe in the direction you want. id say use it for a bit and see how you like it

You can still definitely strafe cancel accidentally mid air on soldier and lose your momentum with null movement scripts. I feel like for medic there's a good argument for using it so you can AD mash and try to dodge scouts, but for scout I feel like it could mess with your ability to strafe aim if you randomly strafe the opposite direction instead of slowing down. As people have said it's preference but IMO it's a lot easier to justify for medic/soldier than scout.

installed it years ago, made me feel better at scout/med dodging nearly instantly, but I also had terrible movement to begin with.
