hopefully this scares away most of the people that are currently cheating that people haven't caught yet, really glad they're adding a report function in-game though because it seemed ridiculous there was no option for it during the beta test

considering half the OW playerbase are people that love that a fps is so light in fps mechanics I'm not surprised they added it in there

and the 40 price tag will likely keep the majority of cheaters away more than any blizzard official statement

Avastand the 40 price tag will likely keep the majority of cheaters away more than any blizzard official statement

It will stop some cheaters, primarily the under aged ones that use their allowance to buy games or perhaps their mommy's credit card, but we've got to remember that we've literally had clowns in the TF2 community with $20,000+ USD backpacks VAC'ed in TF2 in the last VAC wave. There is just no end to some players stupidity. And we've also heard stories of even members in our own TF2 community buying custom hacks for $500. So the $40 barrier to entry isn't much. The fact that its a competitive only game, may actually cause more frustration for some players and thus encouraging them to cheat more.

I do find it funny that they want people to avoid accusing individuals of cheating, and its obviously because it will hurt their reputation and the games reputation as being a serious competitive game. 20 tick rate though might make it hard to actually detect some kinds of cheats though, hopefully they up it and add in some demo review features and recording features.

Our in-game camera system does not always play back footage at the same fidelity as real-time gameplay (this loss in fidelity applies to the killcam, Plays of the Game, Highlights, and—to a lesser extent—the spectator camera as well). This can sometimes result in a player’s aim appearing more snappy or less fluid in playback than it did in-game.

So does this pertain to Taimou's case?

that is very true, though I think it is possible that with the most notable cases people are also afraid of calling hacks due to the aforementioned 20 tick servers and how jumpy it makes everything look

@dizasta comin in hot w/ the "overwatch is such an easy game why bother cheating heh" meme

For real though, good message that came at a good time. People are freaking out over "hacks" right now (because the general playerbase for this game is comprised of mostly bad fps players if I had to hedge a guess) so it's good that Blizzard not only said "We're listening" but also "Chill the fuck out and stop using PotG footage as proof and jumping down peoples' throats for it", cuz holy shit that's been happening way too much.

On a related note, hype for the fat open beta numbers. I think 9.7 million is even bigger than Star Wars Battlefront's numbers, so that's all very exciting news.

as much of a spaz as taimou is hes aimed pretty much exactly like that in every game hes played (dirtybomb/tf2/overwatch) not to mention in the rest of this pov. he just happens to not hit 5 shots in a row and if u slow down that clip u see him adjusting how far hes dragging/flicking a lot before committing to a shot

now if u wanna talk about people who switch targets to heads behind shields mid clip, well...

I think this is a really important point to make right now for Blizzard. Recently, there have been several factors leading into the perfect storm that really could've hurt Blizzard in the near future.

A) You've got recent popular "shooters" like The Division basically taking the side of the cheaters and in some cases actively encouraging it.

B) Players who are being accused of cheating in Overwatch will likely be participating in whatever Blizzard's first sanctioned tourney is.

C) There was no report system in the game, which spurred community conversation on "Blizzard doesn't really care about cheaters, just like A)!". This coupled with the fact that we don't know what anti-cheat Blizzard is using (likely something in-house) as well as how Blizzard treats cheaters in their other games had people reasonably concerned.

D) That a 20 tick-rate demo that uses interpolation is in no way 100% indicative of cheaters 100% of the time. Watching a demo doesn't prove one way or another if a player is cheating, even if the player does the same thing in all their demos. If someone is consistent, then it would consistently make sense that the 20-tick replay feature misses out on how they're actually aiming.

TL;DR: I think this is good news and at least a step in accountability for Blizzard. A fair-play environment is so important and if cheating becomes a massive problem in the first 6 months after release it will hurt the player base numbers significantly.

http://www.pcgamer.com/overwatch-cheaters-are-having-a-hard-time/

PCGamerAs promised, Blizzard is fanning the hammer at Overwatch cheaters. In China alone, 1572 players have been named, shamed and shown the door. Western cheaters are faring no better. Judging by aggrieved posts on the forums of popular hack providers, Overwatch is proving difficult to fool.

Cheaters are being hit by serial bans even after buying new copies. "Got banned one day after the official release," one enemy of fair play recounts. "Thought I got detected for using RPM tools, because the game was crashing for it at that time.

"Bought the game again... didn't hack on it at all, just wanted to enjoy the game a bit. Two days later—banned again.

"Bought the game... again. But before doing that, I deleted Overwatch and launcher completely. Enjoyed it again without cheating only for a day."

On his fourth attempt, he purged his PC, changing hard drive IDs, MAC address, BiosDate and buying a VPN to throw Blizzard's anticheat off. It didn't work.

http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/5edjLC3JGJT5aR8Qb5KFQo-650-80.png

Is there no justice for cheaters!? Screenshot by /u/gibkeeg.
Blizzard pledged that it would be taking a no-nonsense approach to cheaters, and from the delectable wording of the ban notice, it's staying true to its word.

"Our support staff will not overturn these closures and may not respond to appeals."

Let's hope the false positives are small, eh?

or this guy which gave blizzard $160 and got banned 4 times.

still a bit confused how someone would still get banned from basically recreating his PC addresses from the ground up

does that mean blizzard bans based on hardware id lmfao

they didn't mention if he reinstalled his OS or not, it's possible it just left a registry key.
