One day a stranger comes up to you and gives you a weird device and runs off. You discover it's a time machine. You fuck around with it for a while, but eventually get bored and think "Why don't I go back in time and give it to myself?" You go back in time and give it to yourself, starting the whole cycle again.

So where did the machine come from in the first place?

Treachery of Images isnt really a paradox, just a statement about the relation/separation between depictive (i know theres a real word for that) art and reality, and how our use of language confuses them.

A gorilla walks into a bar and orders a banana martini. The bartender thinks this is a little peculiar and then becomes aware he is
actually dreaming. He wakes up from his dream and begins to tell his wife about the ridiculous dream he had. His wife just ignores him, the
man rolls over and begins to sob because he realizes his marriage is in shambles.

The Omnipotence Paradox is a favorite of mine. If a being has the ability to do anything, then that means it has the ability to give itself a limit, therefore not actually being able to do anything, while still actually being able to do anything.

Another interesting one is the Grandfather paradox, where if you were able to go back in time and were to kill your grandfather, you would never have been born, but there you are, time travelling to the past to make that happen.

Do you know the reason Michael J. Fox makes really good milkshakes? Because he uses the finest ingredients.

The birthday paradox a good one. The probability of someone sharing your birthday is approximately 1/365. But if there are 23 people in a room, there is over a 50% chance that two of them share the same birthday.

SpycyWhat would happen if an unstoppable force met an imovable(? eh my english) object?Neil deGrasse TysonNot that anybody asked, but the Irresistible Force beats the Immovable Object — every time.

All you people with complex paradoxes but what about:

I'm the humblest person I know.

I thought I was indecisive but now I'm not so sure.

Those are paradoxes, right?

And simply: Is the answer to this question 'no'?

I am interested by the Ship of Theseus. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ship_of_Theseus

You have a hammer. The head breaks, so you put on a new one. A while later the handle breaks, so you replace the handle. Is it the same hammer you started with?

Are you the same person even if most of your individual cells are replaced over time?

Another interesting topic is the prisoner's dilemma, though I'm not sure I'd call it a paradox either

Actually that's not a paradox. The egg came before the chicken because of evolution (the first chicken's parents can't be classified as "chicken" but more as an evolution stage of the chicken itself).

i don't like this as a parodox, it just gives the air of being written by a 5 year old who just refused to think about it and called it a 'paradox'

you must have received the time machine from someone or created it. if you then go back and give it to yourself then you have 2 time machines, then 4, then 8. you have an infinite number of time machines. that's more interesting and actually makes sense

Isn't that flawed though? If he can do anything then he obviously can't put a limit on himself, no one can. That's what defines his abilities. It doesn't actually mean he can't do anything. It just changes the definition of anything. If someone by definition can do anything then limiting him is impossible. 'Anything' does not include 'limiting himself', since it's inherently impossible.

not so much a paradox as missing information.

DrPloxonot so much a paradox as missing information.
That's basically saying "Tim and Jeff are wearing plaid shirts to a photo shoot. Tim has blue, Jeff has red. Is Jeff the bottom?"

That's not a great example because the colours you prefer to wear are a bit decided on what kind of person you are, in this case, it's probably true

for a bit of clarification, given that red implies a more emotional person, while blue conveys more of a steely collected person, it's usually the case that more feminine people are more emotional, which implies that jeff is more feminine and therefore it's more likely that jeff is the bottom, if you think that sounds ridiculous, you can extend it out to clothing you consider feminine, like tight jeans, or pink shirts

If he's omnipotent there isn't a thing so heavy he can't lift it. It comes down to if by omnipotent you mean the world in which he resides is unlimited to him, or if he can still be limited by the laws of the world but omnipotent within it.
