Thank you Dreamhack, competitive TF2 is a serious e-sport and we'll see you in 2016 for matchmaking!

Now for our grand finale we're going to pub on a map that's just a guy's face. Good night!

Except that the grand finals have finished officially, and this happened AFTER the credits rolled. This is kind of ironic, because the TFTV forum isn't well known it's highbrow culture anyway. We all enjoy shitposts, what's wrong when it's on the stream?

Moments like these actually make me happy that TF2 isn't a huge, 100% serious esport that is ruled by money and big companies :)
We have the most talented, most creative and most ridiculous community there is, and that's a good thing :D

Is there a link for koth_sideshow? It honestly doesn't look that bad of a map, it's better than most cp_orange maps

Would've been funny if the map was smaller, spawn on each side of spire, a bunch of ramps and crap leading up to it to motivate RJing. Sort of a koth_turris 6v6 with obstacles.

If anyone ever asks me whether I can make maps, I will point them to koth_sideshow and let them figure it out for themselves.

We have the most talented, most creative and most ridiculous community there is, and that's a good thing :D

This is the first time TF2 has ever been at Dreamhack. This is supposed to be a huge opportunity for us to show our game, competitive 6v6, to Europe and the world; to people who may not know it exists, in advance of a coming boom in the game. Does it not cheapen or dilute the message of "We are an e-sport" to play a circlejerk map of Sideshow's face at the end of our event? Many people outside our community currently think TF2 is a joke or a cartoon game.

Would we be okay with doing this at the end of Insomnia LAN as well? At the end of ESEA LAN or future LAN events? I don't hate fun, I don't hate Sideshow or anybody involved in the map, I just disagree with the decision to place it at the end of such a fantastic competitive event. Why does it fit? Everybody knows TF2 is fun already - because everyone on Steam has it.

Fun shit like this is great for charity events or more casual events. Sure, for a charity event, do Trainsawlaser or dodgeball or randomizer or make Sideshow's nose out of spire. But I feel like keeping the serious events (competitive tournaments) serious (relatively speaking) is important.

This Dreamhack exhibition event didn't have much viewership as compared to an Insomnia LAN, so no one would do that there. Even the GXL casts for this year were pretty casual (most of the group stage matches, that is) with even star_ and jerma participating in them. I don't remember that generating a similar response.

only if your definition of the term is built around stringent black-and-white seriousness, certainly. meanwhile, the biggest fighting game on twitch currently is a game built around an anthro fox with a pink fluffy pokemon chasing him around, and one of the biggest DOTA events of the year, the summit, is heavily marketed around "we're not as serious as those other assholes"

professionalism and lightheartedness are not exclusive to each other, and considering the cartoonish, comedy-centric nature of TF2's aesthetic, that's not a bad thing

I have never laughed so much at a TF2 stream, amazing.

I think this sort of thing is more likely to show people we're different to other games with our community interaction.

aye. TF2 is best to be played up as an alternative FPS, since as a whole it's a very different kind of game than what other competitive FPS games (even overwatch, as most ppl here mention) are like, so I like to think that the laid-back tone and feel of so much of TF2 helps with this

(also, here's a timestamp of koth_sideshow)
