I don't like it, the front page was a nice hub for events.

Site seems too plain now.

I tend to agree with those who miss the front page. Everything does look good, but I liked that as a "hub" for events and news posts. Hell, I even miss the news post box that used to have ETF2L news and whatnot, but that's long gone.

r4ptureThe longer I look at it, the loss of the front page isn't something I can get behind. It was a nice little hub of info, especially to new people, who now won't know what events are coming without looking through the forums, which most people just glancing won't bother to do.

data from heatmaps and analytics really doesn't justify giving prime page real estate to front page articles that are often weeks old that and have far fewer pageviews and less active discussion than most normal forum threads

quick dissemination of vital community information is the intent of the sidebars, but clearly they're not accomplishing that goal optimally, so i'll work on that front

My main gripes are: lack of content in the navigation menu and the missing titles for the 1st/3rd columns.

Personally, I don't think the issue with the front page was that people didn't want it, it's just that the front page was near useless before. I would far prefer a useful front page over the forums on the front page.

I think the reason it sucked was 50% layout and 50% the content on it. All that was on the front page was news posts, and the schedule. The page always looked exactly the same except when a big post had a new photo for the front page, otherwise my brain would dismiss the news posts because it looked the same as it did any other day.
My other gripe with it (and still an issue I have) was the schedule. First, I think the way the schedule was laid out wasn't too friendly to read; I found the sidebar easier to read than the homepage was. Second, the issue I still have, is that most events aren't posted until a day or two before the event happens. Some things like LAN's should be posted at least a week in advance. I understand that some invite matches get decided like the night they happen and that's okay.

If you do bring the front page back, I'd like to see it with a more readable schedule, higher up on the page. If the front page also contains news, I think it would be great if it did something similar the TFTV+ did with forums posts, so I can see which ones are unread.

Just some suggestions.

I think a hybrid of the new and old front page would be best. Seeing those big pictures with a link to an article was nice, but when the article was about something from a few weeks to a month past or even months away I get sick of looking at it.

Another note about those heatmaps, its really cool to see that a lot of the clicks on streams are done on the bottom 2 streams.

i prefer the up vote on threads to be green rather than blue, it makes finding threads i'm interested in easier to spot.

dont know if this has been mentioned it, but im missing the server tab. the page itself is obviously existant, but it would be nice if it was easier to access.

How difficult would it be to implement a switchable old layout? (With reduced functionality if needed to preserve compatibility)
Floating bars, Windows 8 color pallet, lack of any color other than blue-grey, and reddit layout may be nice for some people, but I significantly prefer the old layout.

EDIT: I'll add higher contrast and a bar disabling thing to my greasemonkey script if enigma doesn't do it for the site.

Very nice work with the layout Enigma. Much cleaner. I feel like I'm in a hospital compared to the old one. Not saying the old one was bad but it had its hiccups. The design of the Streams/Servers is very nicely done. Over-all impressive work my friend.

I really like the new design, and think it is a nice upgrade to the old one. I too would like to see some elements from the old layout come back though. I just did a quick little illustration in paint for what I think would look nice and make a lot of sense http://i.imgur.com/nXE30Jk.jpg I would like to make use of the outer area, it seems it has a lot of open space to put things.

Overall I think you did an excellent job!

new stream sidebar is fantastic.

i miss the old frontpage though. it was nice to have a huge picture to tell me that something new is happening.

Keyboard shortcuts for navigating threads would be amazing.
Maybe a/d to scroll pages, w/s to scroll through posts, q/e to +/-frag?

Edit: I went ahead and made a userscript to do this

I liked having the server tab at the navigation bar, maybe some way to add in IRC for the pug/scrim channels would be pretty cool as well. Also if possible maybe make the active server sidebar thing changeable, maybe a filter to only show certain kinds of servers? Like you'd be able to set it so you would only see the DM servers or only Jump servers instead of just whatever has people in it (Normally pubs).

I liked before on the forums you can see what thread the last person posted in.

Now all you see is who was the last person to post, but no thread name, i have to click in the specific forum to see.

sigh

I don't think the front page was really about regular visitors to the site, but more about how the initial impression is to new users or people new to competitive TF2. ATM the content just looks overwhelming and uninviting.

But I guess that's what people said about reddit.
