Sarcasmitron's Ukraine War series is hands down the best thing available on youtube I've come across. Thoroughly researched. Insanely detailed. I really appreciate his cynical, no bullshit approach.

F.D Signifier - Most of his videos are analysis of problems black people face, black media, hip-hop and occasionally anime.

Dude is really smart and makes great points, definitely worth a watch if you haven't seen one of his videos yet.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vx6tseoM_u0&t=5723s

Foreign man in a foreign land - Same type of content F.D makes but with a point of view of a man born in the Bahamas. Great watch too.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p0g3DEvvCfc&t=1942s

Honorable mention: Waving the red flag podcast - 3 black dudes with different backgrounds talking about life, relationships and media. Fun watch.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8wFojTReX1o&t=116s

i know im just purely griping but 99% of youtube video essayists/media "critics" are so dogshit with nothing to say. probably 90% are either reactionary cranks or reciting plot/wikipedia summaries (while pretending theyre speaking with a unique voice), and even the best of the rest mostly spew out uneducated, reductive, or pointless opinions

its ok to watch whatever, i watch shit video essays all the time, but its annoying that these people have completely displaced actual critics within the semi-popular media ecosystem

that said heres 2 good channels on film and 2 decent ones on comics

Anything by John Bois on his channel or SB Nation (Chart Party). He approaches sports history in really novel way.

https://www.youtube.com/@BobbyBroccoli/videos
Really well produced videos on academic fraud and STEM industry history. He used the Jon Bois style of 3d presentation which is great.

If college football or baseball is something you're interested in I have found these are a really good watch, if any of the EmpLemon sports essays interested you then these absolutely will. For less than 10k subs, this channel is a gem

i had tears run down my face at the end of this video, asumsaus has such a way with bringing the viewers emotions through a roller coaster then bringing it all back at the end over such simple things as a video game. I envy that someone make a video similar and shines a spotlight on a tf2 player like he did with aMsa

Not exactly video essays but if anyone here is in to Columbo or just television history in general check out the channel Watch it for Days.
