as much as most people on tftv like to give tf2center shit there is no way to look at this as anything other than a giant L to the entire comp scene
im not totally familiar with how it works in na, but tf2center was and is such a vital stepping stone for so many of the people who play the game now, across every single level (including myself)

nah, you will live, dare I say move on
while at the time it was instrumental for beginners to get a taste of 6s without commiting to a team and at a time most convenient to them, for the past 5 years its has been a shell of itself and basically the place for people to zone off at 3am getting high/drunk or otherwise unable to find themselves doing anything productive at their office job during daytime playing NA lobbies so definitely ruling this out as a great loss present day, UGC is a would be bigger loss
let it rest
p.s. tf2stadium is still open for business
ps2 fuck masternoob

my intro to comp was playing med all the time in the oldschool tf2lobby. had a lot of fun and met so many cool people and some are still around today. like wandum said its an important stepping stone especially for new players. hopefully something else surfaces that has the same affect

I know TF2C has had its days in the community, but the moments & memories it created for so many are to thank for. It definitely developed the games culture more and will forever be engraved in the scenes history. Thank you to those who worked on the site over the years for your service.

technically, yes the site is up. it has not been touched in years and has no active administration, moderation, or dev team. i will reach out to the old team and see what we need to do to be operational in the next few days, if that is even possible. wish we had more of a heads up.

edit: we're making it happen. will post updates as they come in.

Hit me up if you need any help with the code; from what I've seen the backend was unable to configure the game server properly, it just hung - but I tested that 2 days ago, it might have been temporary.

for all the hate it got tf2center was just fun, it was brainless fun but it was fun and most of the ppl that hated it were the sort of ppl to rage at the open medic in their pug mumble or push the same (dumb) buttons on admins and then post screenshots of getting banned.

not to be a hater but really don't bother with tf2stadium, you could pay an advertising exec to get ppl on it and it wouldnt pan out.

if it does die pce tf2center

TF2Stadium has always been used as the TF2Center backup whenever it went down. I think it's just a matter of actually starting to use TF2Stadium as the main platform for people that want to play comp with more of a laid back vibe and for new players, the same way TF2Center was.

It's also refreshing to see members from different projects working together instead of seeing it just as "competition" as MN would say. You guys are amazing, keep up the good work and let us know if there's anything we can do to help.

we had, in my view, a far superior product (better AI, more gamemodes, more community-respected moderation, more streamer functionality, lots of community outreach events, etc.). but in the end, no one wanted to migrate to the new thing when the old thing still worked, had all their stats, and is what they were used to.

can't blame the users for that at all, but if this tf2c shutdown is real, that will no longer be the case

imo the thing that kept tf2center going throughout an obvious downturn in comp tf2 as a whole was its 8(?) year legacy, which meant that within every branch of the tf2 community people knew about it and if ever had the urge to play a lobby, could go there with an expectation of games being played. tf2stadium just doesnt have that and imo will be very very difficult to achieve even with center gone, lobbies will happen thru the center comm shifting but imo youre starting from the ground up in a community that is a lot smaller than it used to be, growth will be slow and any new players that manage to find the site will be turned off by the general lack of players.

if u get it up and running best of luck to you

like pitts said in #23, it's been fairly active in the moments when center has had technical problems/been ddos'd. it is going to be a bit of a push to get it populated, but i don't think it's unreasonable to see it happening.

we're going to do our best at least :)

Are comms mandatory on this platform and is it open source?

Maybe masternoob will whitelist the word tf2stadium so that people on tf2center can actually find out about it.

As a lobby lord, I can honestly say I've helped countless new players in regards to directing them towards newbie mixes/leagues to play in. Hopefully the community as a whole moves over to tf2stadium as I really like their website.

End of an era.
