Why did you take a break from TF2?

reached a point in tf2 that improving as a player meant I had to do more than just show up to scrims and have fun, and that point coincided with starting college and looking forward to doing things on the weekends and at nights with my friends. it just wasn't worth it to me to use up my weekend to play tf2 when i wouldn't have been able to get good enough to improve and get on better teams than the last season.

a few breaks:
- my pc broke,
- got to gradute from uni,
- i lost motivation to play since i prioritize playing with friends over getting the best possible team no matter what and they decided to part their ways

When I can’t fight the underlying feeling that there is something else I can be doing with my time, I need to take a break otherwise playing becomes unbearable

It’s almost like becoming extremely high and thereby forced to contemplate every decision made since conception. Self-esteem goes down the drain hard

But I also realized that playing TF2 doesn’t have to be unhealthy, so I return when I feel it is healthy

Take a break if you aren't having fun and give your team time to find a replacement, i have always found my mental brought down teams when i tried to stick it out.

you can only leave your irl friends to go play tf2 so many times before you realize youre not hanging out with the people you really want to

listening to teenagers bitch at each other and launch slurs around in a mumble just doesnt hit when youre 20+ and have work in the morning

in other news i took season 7 off and actually dropped 30 pounds so i guess it was worth it

jetzblame unrelated life problem on tf2 -> quit tf2 -> problem is not fixed by quitting tf2 -> figure out how to fix problem -> play tf2 again -> new problem appears -> repeat cycle forever

tho at this point im pretty sure ive broken the cycle by only playing like two nights a week, and mostly just to hang out with teammates

definitely feel this, playing the game is a great way to de-stress and hang out with the homies, but it definitely affected my sleep negatively, and the nightly commitment got tiresome and prevented me from doing stuff with roommates/friends (also grad school + tf2 is a bad combo lol)

the problem is the game is addicting so it's hard to not go back and try again, and things like sleep habits and general lifestyle changes take a long time, in my case i quit and was still in the rhythm of being alert at night and staying up late for months after quitting, but it eventually settled down and my body adjusted

as fun as it is playing the game in the moment, i am definitely happier overall and less stressed when not playing on a team or playing any games regularly

I loved this game as much as the next person, but I think the leading factors to why I quit the game is:
Losing time to play the game bc of college/work would never give me a consistent enough schedule to play the game as I did in high school.
Wanting to hang out with friends irl (didn't have many in high school)
The community was so toxic it just made the game less fun. Maybe it's different now, but everyone had to shit on each other, and idk about anyone else here but after playing almost 5000 hours of this game, shit adds up and you just stop booting the game up and find something else to do. To be completely honest I think everyone should quit this game at some point and never come back because I can guarantee a couple of things will happen. You'll probably get a job or get a better job and increase your wallet size, you will do things that make you happier (unrelated to $) and you'll live a healthier lifestyle. I could also never wrap my head around why the top players continue to play this game because it's literally b4nny just winning every season. I don't see the fun in that, maybe I'm completely wrong and have a shitty mindset/attitude towards that but it never made sense to me. Nonetheless, I am 1000% happier. I'm graduating from college in the spring and applying for full-time jobs, and I equate a good portion of my increase in happiness to quitting tf2 (and a lot of gaming in general).

Haven't played actively in like 3 years or so. I'll still hop in from time to time to DM/MGE/Surf/Jump because tf2 has the best mechanics of any FPS game and those 4 modes are like a concentrate for the things I love about the game.

I quit because I was losing motivation, and had actually ended up liking Overwatch quite a bit. That said, the day valve makes tf2 run well on modern hardware (source 2? TF3???) I'll likely be done with OW. Tf2 just feels particularily old these days. I also quit because i'm getting older, and I cannot keep playing at the degen hours that the game seems to operate at (especially with the timezone difference).

That said, i'm working on a personal youtube/twitch project which will probably see me making some kind of return to the game in the coming months, unlikely that it will be in the form of a competitive player though.

i had to take a break to get enough good quality fertilizer, hard to get these days ever since all the terror threats. truly the best fertilizer you can get, my fields are flourishing right now without any real effort from my part, if you could see the size of the potatoes, you would be amazed! a month ago i collected a specimen that was 150 kilos in weight! amazing progress for me as a young farmer, it's hard work but it pays off in the end. i wish i could return to tf2 but staying on the internet makes me very vulnerable to attacks from the federal agencies, i wish all of you great luck in the future, my time is coming to an end.

my computer stopped being able to run tf2 when i upgraded it to top of the line parts at the time, and tf2 isn't fun when you're getting sub 40 fps, even more as a sniper/scout player

i was also getting into overwatch at the time and then my friends ended up getting me into ffxiv which i'm now perpetually trapped in forever

so i guess i kinda got forced into a retirement and other games kinda took its place lol, i always miss it though
