Lockdown Throwdown Round 2 announced

August 24, 2020

After the cancellation of European LAN events Copenhagen Games 2020 and Insomnia67 and the overwhelming success of the Lockdown Throwdown the organizers of the CG online replacement tournament Phoenix Red are now ready for the Lockdown Throwdown: Round 2.

Sign-ups are open until September 10th, 20:00 CEST on lockdown.teamfortress2.com, with all additional sign-ups after this date being put onto a waiting list. The online 6v6 tournament itself will take place on the weekend of September 12th and 13th, featuring a 300 key prize pool provided by mannco.store and KritzKast.

With an 8 team Invite Group and the ability of teams from the Open groups to qualify for the Invite knockout stage, the playoff structure will be similar to the previous event held earlier this year. Similarly, there will be a B-tournament on Sunday for the teams that got knocked out early on in the tournament.

The ruleset and competitive plugins (e.g. getting rid of randomized fall damage and slope-bug fixes) will be the same as ETF2L Season 36. The event will most likely mirror the map pool as well, but this will be confirmed closer to the event.

Tournament servers, this time hosted in Frankfurt, will be provided to teams, and if teams from North America are willing to play on high ping, they are allowed to sign-up and take part as well. Matches will be broadcast on KritzKast, starting Saturday, September 12th.

It's not like these vods aren't uploaded to yt at a later date. While I do understand your frustration if you just want to watch the matches you messed KritzKast do this as far as I know to support their staff and the content they make for the game, and as they (/pheonix red) organize the event, they have full rights to do so.

"at a later date" for the last Lockdown Throwdown meant waiting 2 months for the Finals to hit youtube tho

why cant i show support by going back watching the vods? im not dishing out a fiver for them to only get two quid, yes one could argue in large numbers it would work but guess what tf2 doesnt have large numbers and never will. i understand its a way to compensate staff and give them a bit of side dosh for their passion along with their current job or studies but im not going to wait months for a vod at the end of the day. either they speed up the process rapid like and have the delay be like a day or two and not months or weeks, its up to them if they want people to enjoy their content

this is a good way to get people to boycott watching kritzkast, if people wanna show their support add a donation link, everyone knows casting etc is all voluntary already and has been for a long time so suddenly paywalling it doesn't sit well for a lot of people, especially when things like demos.tf exist and other people probably casually cast big games anyway, they just wanna see the game get played bruh.

Sure they have a full right to do so,and i have the right to call it retarded and scummy to make anyone pay to watch full vods.
They do upload them sure, 2 months after, eddited and with no chat.

I don't care if it is pay-to-watch or not, what I want to know is how often they managed to reach the minimum amount required for payouts by twitch. There really is no point to this if they don't get paid out every 2 months.

u arent entitled to watch kritzkast or recieve any of their content for free, if they have permission from leagues to cast games / create their own events then they can do whatever they want, you can watch games from the demos.tf page, and if you want casters, analysts, observes and streaming overlays then pay for the higher quality content

how is this scummy LOL, its literally just the vods that you have to pay for, live broadcasts and vod uploads (hl upper bracket from 2 days ago literally got uploaded the day after), if agro wants to pay his staff that are literally slaving away for your entertainent then it isnt scummy lol, reminder that they had a patreon/merch store/donation button this entire time but no one cared to give them money because they didnt have to lol, such entitlement

Not about anyone being entitled for anything, This is a small community keep that in mind, If things won't come for free this whole thing will fall apart, Only around ~10 people will even bother to pay, it just kills the viewerbase, And i understand you will upload it on Youtube or whatever but then, It just won't the same it won't have chat and it will be edited and bla bla bla you get what i'm saying. It's not only a scummy move but it's a bad move for the game as a whole.

nobody has said they cannot charge for vods. everyone is saying they should not charge for vods. there are alternative casting orgs like tftv that do not charge the viewer anything.

if u want to charge people to watch the vods this is obviously allowed but it is also gonna be unpopular when there are free alternatives that people have already been using for years

thank you to all casting orgs and peoplel working with and in them for the work its greatly appreciated

I think the only valid criticism of KritzKast is the fact that they're very late with uploading their VODs on YouTube. I guarantee that 99% of people on this forum can afford a 1-time payment of 5 dollars and I don't see how people can call this move "scummy" from a broadcaster that (like the rest of us) rarely breaks even when going to LAN. Also @niko how is giving money to a casting org bad for the game? If the money from more subs goes back into KritzKast's equipment and coverage of events, that seems like a positive for the game, to me. Again, I still think KritzKast is lacking when it comes to uploading VODs to YouTube but that's the only valid complaint I've read in this thread.

i think something that would benefit everyone is some more clarity from KritzKast's side, especially a clear upload schedule (for example - "all stream vods will be uploaded to youtube 1 week after the stream"). this means non-subs will know how long they will have to wait (which seems to be the main concern from people), and people who are considering subbing will know exactly what they are getting. i think its pretty common among smaller youtubers to have a patreon where they let their supporters see their videos early (a set amount of time early) so this could work similarly to that.

however i also understand this could be quite a stressful lot of work to put on Agro/whoever else is involved's shoulders. i dont personally know how hard/time consuming cutting vods and uploaded them is so i do want to stress that this is just my 2 cents. i also do feel its a little unnecessary to put them behind a paywall at all since the money will be so little anyway (and can't be withdrawn until they hit $100) but thats up to KritzKast if they wanna do that. it's their content so its their choice at the end of the day.
